Hudson, New Hampshire (CNN) – Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona will campaign with Rick Perry in New Hampshire on Tuesday, the Texas governor's campaign told CNN on Saturday.
The man famous for his tough stance on illegal immigration has not endorsed a presidential candidate, though he has been courted by the likes of Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, businessman Herman Cain, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Perry.
Arpaio is a hard-liner on illegal immigration in a state known for its tough 2010 law on the issue. Among other provisions of the law, it would require that local police, during the enforcement of other laws, check the immigration status of anyone they suspected of being undocumented.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit said the measure overstepped Arizona's authority, and the state is seeking a U.S. Supreme Court ruling to settle the issue.
Arpaio's endorsement could be helpful to Perry, who has been the subject of criticism from conservatives for some of his actions on illegal immigration.
Perry caused a firestorm of complaints when he suggested people didn't "have a heart" if they did not support educating the children of illegal immigrants.
The governor later said his remarks were "inappropriate."
Arpaio is a well-known and controversial personality who is running for his sixth term as sheriff. In an interview with CNN earlier this month he brushed off concerns about a federal investigation into abuse of power and allegations of racial profiling by his office.
Perry will spend three days in New Hampshire on his eighth visit to the state, where he ranks in the single digits in recent polls.
– CNN's Ed Lavandera and Tracy Sabo contributed to this report.

Excellent that will be the last we see of Rick Perry then..
What a dolt he is and I am in Texas....
Wasn't this a movie: Dumb and Dumber?
Hmm, "Arpaio is a well-known and controversial personality who is running for his sixth term as sheriff." was living in AZ when Arpaio ran for the first and as he said, only term as Sheriff of Maricopa County. Absolute power is intoxicationg. This man hates Hispanics but isn't educated enough to realize or acknowledge that AZ is, by birth, over 40% Hispanic.
"Arpaio is a hard-liner on illegal immigration in a state known for its tough 2010 law on the issue."
I live in AZ and that statement is complete crap... He was never hard on illegal immigration until it became a hot button issue that he exploited to get elected. He was quoted as saying "I won't waste 1 minute of my deputies time arresting illegals, it is a federal issue" That was more than 10 years ago... My how things change when you need to get elected.
One phony to another.................
Oh good Lord no. More craziness.
Hmm two reasons to run and hide when you see them coming.
No more support to Perry if he is associated that kind of trash.
Oh, great, adding Arpaio's disdain for Civil Rights, and all their attendant inconvenience, will make a great match with Perry's view on freedom in this country.
Sheriff Arpaio is only doing this because he's a huge Journey fan...
good luck! the leg breaker union have the demo-rats already in their back pocket !
Birds of a feather flock together!
stick a fork in Perry. Lining up with Sheriff JOkE. Arpaio is a nitwit.
cnn u r chicken S ! you are so pro demo-tart I can smell you to fla!
A lot of illegal immigrants seem like decent, hard working people (I live in Texas). I have trouble getting excited about tracking them all down and kicking them out. But some people like Arpaio are very proud of tracking them down. I think that their morals are upside down.
"Perry will spend three days in New Hampshire on his eighth visit to the state, where he ranks in the single digits in recent polls."
And they think that having someone like Arpaio is going to help turn those numbers around? In New Hampshire?
BUHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Forget Perry! Let's just vote for Sheriff Joe, with Chris Christi for VP!
Oh great, and Steven Segal dressed in swat gear, driving an armoured assalt vehicle will also endorce Perry....lol....this is just what America needs!
LO L Where else would we go or are we supposed to live!!!
There are no countries.
Idiot!
I've already seen this movie, it's called Dumb and Dumber.
Two morons who were made for each other.
This guy really likes men walking around in pink boxers while he plays Boss.
So "dumb" is going to New Hampshire to help "dumber". The GOP/tp is pulling out all the stops to try to make Perry the nominee.
I don't believe the people of New Hampshire are stupid enough to vote for Perry, and probably could care less if big mouth Arpaio campaigns for him or not. I don't believe Perry will finish better than 3rd in the New Hampshire primary.
