Sheriff Arpaio to campaign with Perry

Hudson, New Hampshire (CNN) – Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona will campaign with Rick Perry in New Hampshire on Tuesday, the Texas governor's campaign told CNN on Saturday.

The man famous for his tough stance on illegal immigration has not endorsed a presidential candidate, though he has been courted by the likes of Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, businessman Herman Cain, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Perry.

Arpaio is a hard-liner on illegal immigration in a state known for its tough 2010 law on the issue. Among other provisions of the law, it would require that local police, during the enforcement of other laws, check the immigration status of anyone they suspected of being undocumented.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit said the measure overstepped Arizona's authority, and the state is seeking a U.S. Supreme Court ruling to settle the issue.

Arpaio's endorsement could be helpful to Perry, who has been the subject of criticism from conservatives for some of his actions on illegal immigration.

Perry caused a firestorm of complaints when he suggested people didn't "have a heart" if they did not support educating the children of illegal immigrants.

The governor later said his remarks were "inappropriate."

Arpaio is a well-known and controversial personality who is running for his sixth term as sheriff. In an interview with CNN earlier this month he brushed off concerns about a federal investigation into abuse of power and allegations of racial profiling by his office.

Perry will spend three days in New Hampshire on his eighth visit to the state, where he ranks in the single digits in recent polls.

– CNN's Ed Lavandera and Tracy Sabo contributed to this report.

This Sheriff is nothing more than a backwoods, money laundering, kick-back of a sheriff, who has received millions for his wrong-doings. He is nothing more than modern day Mcarthey'ism. He's brown, arrest him! He don't look right, (as Pink Floyd said in The Wall) "Get him up against the WALL!"

People like this only turn the clock backwards after all the years of hard work and effort for equal rights in this country for everyone.

I hope they (referring to Clint Eastwoods movie) "Hang em' High" when they're done with the investigation on him.

This guy is dirty, even when he showers.

    So What?

Who is this Sheriff anyway? Nothing but racist bigot. We all notice what happened in the last election? It was a wake up call for the illegal stance taken by the state legislature. They have over stepped Arizona's authority and immigration and has proven that the voice of the majority is much stronger than the voice of the few.

His campaigning with Perry shows out out-of-touch they both are when it comes to immigration. His campaigning with Perry will only hurt Perry. Why can't people open their eyes and realize that this is the end of Perry's bid for the nomination. Maybe he is just as dumb as Perry and is out to show it.

So what? Who does he thinks he is?

We recognize that Sheriff Arpaio is wanting and needing to be on the national stage, however, he is being paid by taxpayers here in Maricopa County and we will be monitoring any charges to our taxpayer payroll when he is campaigning for Perry. He has a job that he is paid to do.

Perry was CONSIDERED DONE before this sheriff would come out and campaign for him. Now that this sheriff is going to campaign for him, Perry is CONFIRMED DONE!

Sheriff Arpaio is an alcoholic, you can see it by the clown nose he sports. Also, Perry is a failing candidate. Romney will be the next president not so much because he is so good, but because Obama has so dismally failed at everything but at giving more pretty speeches.

Dumb and Dumber to campaign together! How cute! Obama will be elected again since all Rep candidates are simple, corrupt, and unelectable except Ron Paul!

A lunatic points to a nut-ball and says "vote for him."

This only has relevance in a 'conservative' world.

Arpaio isn't popular outside Maricopa County (that's why he decided against running for anything statewide), if I was a candidate I'd pay him to NOT campaign for me.

    Aww, how cute!
They can trade corruption and kickback techniques!
The Sherrif can explain *exactly* where he got the millions of dollars he used to pay off the lawsuits against him for civil rights violations, and Perry can explain how he abused "imminent domain" and seized private property and then "gifted" it to his campaign donors for their own personal use.

As long as they support gun rights for law abiding citizens they have a shot at my vote. If either one takes a position further restricting my right to carry a handgun for self defense purposes they may as well not even run.

Karl Rove is a proven political strategist. Karl maintains that no President can be elected unless he has at least 40% of the Latino vote. Even if Perry does win the GOP nomination, his move to involve Sheriff Joe Arpaio kills any chances of his gaining even 10% of the Latino vote. Perry would save a lot of money and effort if he just packed it in today. By this move, his candidacy is DOA effective today.

Another huge blow to the already walking dead candidate Rick Perry. This is an endorsement that will not help Perry because the only people that are crazy enough to like Arpaio are the ones who still like Perry.
