Swing state Democrats spread DNC's latest attack on Romney

(CNN) - Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, a Democrat, joined in on the attacks Monday against GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, carrying his party's line that the former Massachusetts governor is a flip-flopper.

His remarks come on the heels of a new Democratic National Committee commercial airing in several battleground states - including Wisconsin - that pits Romney's own words against him on multiple issues.

Rep. Scott: Gingrich would take South Carolina

(CNN) - Political heavyweight and Republican Rep. Tim Scott of South Carolina said Monday that if the election were held today, GOP presidential front-runner Newt Gingrich would win the Palmetto State.

"We'd love to see Mitt Romney spend more time in South Carolina, but I believe today if we were to hold the election, those are the two guys that would be at the top of the ticket and Newt would win," Scott said in an interview with CNN's "John King, USA."

Gingrich moves into new mode: Attack Romney

(CNN) – Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich continued his push against rival GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Monday, saying Democratic swipes against the former Massachusetts governor as a flip-flopper are "legitimate."

"If you run to the left of Teddy Kennedy, it is trickier than trying to run to the right of Newt Gingrich," Gingrich said in an exclusive interview with CNN's "John King, USA," referring to Romney's failed Senate bid against liberal lion Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts.

Why Gingrich's N.H. endorsement is a bigger deal than it seems

Washington (CNN) - The timing couldn't have been better for Newt Gingrich.

He's under fire from some of his rivals for the GOP presidential nomination and from some top conservative voices for suggesting at the CNN Republican debate last week that there should be a "path to legality" for some illegal immigrants. But the former House speaker got a shot in the arm in the form of the New Hampshire Union Leader's endorsement.

More mental exams for White House shooting suspect

Washington (CNN) - A doctor who examined the young Idaho man accused of attempting to assassinate President Barack Obama says the suspect is mentally competent to stand trial, federal prosecutors said in a court filing Monday.

But the prosecutors called for more extensive testing of Oscar Ortega-Hernandez, and a competency hearing was scheduled for December 12.

Two ads totally different, says Romney campaign

(CNN) - Mitt Romney's campaign quickly downplayed comparisons between a TV ad released Monday by the Democratic National Committee and a spot produced last week by the candidate's campaign, saying Democrats weren't upfront about taking Romney's quotes out of context.

"That was a blatant misuse of quote," Romney Communications Director Gail Gitcho said in a conference call featuring New Hampshire supporters of Romney. "Democrats were blatantly taking that quote out of context. I wouldn't suggest any similarities between what we did and what Democrats did today."

Gingrich nabs high-profile endorsement in South Carolina

Washington (CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich picked up the endorsement of former South Carolina Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer on Monday, giving him his most prominent surrogate to date in a state that Gingrich's campaign has billed as its "southern firewall."

"Speaker Newt Gingrich offers the best and most comprehensive plan to get America moving forward and that is why today I am announcing my full support for Speaker Gingrich ... a true conservative, a true patriot, and true leader," Bauer said in a statement.
