Washington (CNN) - Massachusetts congressman Barney Frank, a prominent 16-term liberal Democrat and arch-enemy of political conservatives nationwide, will announce Monday he does not intend to seek re-election in 2012, according to a statement from Frank's office.
Frank, 71, will hold a news conference in his district to discuss the decision at 1 p.m.
FULL STORY
Good riddance. His stupidity and venality and endless support of flawed housing initiatives (including Freddie and Fannie Mae) helped propel the housing crisis and make it worse. The National Board of Realtors was his seventh largest contributor, so that plus his post-legislative lobbying jobs for them, will be his payoff. Meanwhile, the nation continues to suffer because of the housing bubble he helped create.
I am a Libertarian and I totally agree with the comment that there are a lot of double digit "public servants" who need to go. It is the time for term limits. And I am SO glad Barney is not going to run again!
I don't trust him to be my nanny,
He is much older than my granny,
No more franking,
Now safe banking,
Pull Barney's Frank from Freddie's Fannie.
Being an independent, we have been begging for term limits for years. If term limits were implemented, these idiots would be replaced periodically. The general public is not smart enough to throw these crooks out of office. Repubs and Dems are equally culpable for the mess our country has descended into. The blame game needs to end. RE-ELECT NO ONE!
What will the poor LIBS of Massachusetts do...oh dear. He should be in PRISON for the FANNIE MAE & FREDIE MAC debacle!
Democrat or Republican - anything would be an improvement. I sense that Frank understands that he's a fraud and partly responsible for the collapse of the economy. Good riddance.
Perhaps, he has finally realized the amount of damage he has done to the country with all of the garbage he has pushed for, and including his being a key contributor to the downfall of American banking. Unable to defend against what he has done. Hopefully, Massachusetts will finally elect a conservative, for their own benefit and the benfit of the whole country.
Good riddance to bad rubbish!
Hmmm. Getting out while he can. Probably struck a deal to keep out of prison in exchange for leaving office. Going to see a lot more of this I think, as we are getting more and more information o the illegal activities of our elected representatives.
Totally agree da.
How bad must the internal polling be if Frank is not going to run?
It is well passed the time for this old fogey, leftist fool to depart. Barney is one of the causes of our current economic trouble. I glad he's leaving.
Well, Taxachusetts got a Repulican senator last year so maybe now they can add a repulican representitive, too!
Thank Jeebus...... great news!
Good riddance...finally gone! America will be all the better with this toad gone!
Finally some good news about Barney!
Good riddance to one of the most corrupt, self-serving politicians that Washington has ever seen! If only he would take Charlie Rangle with him...
Well, his work in Washington is done. Job well done. Have fun hunting wabbits, Elmer.
Barney Frank has been the cosponser of the greatest real estate and economic debacle in the history of the country. Together with his co conspiritor and thief Chris Dodd, these socialist democrats forced the banking industry to accept unqualified loan applicants by the millions. Frank mantra was "everyone in the U.S. desrves a house regardless of whether they can affort it or not."
Barney Frank is a fraud. Barney Frank is a subversive. Barney Frank is a FAILURE and socialist.
If any one person holds the responsibility for the real estate run-up to collapse and then for blaiming everyone but himself, it's Barney F-F-Frank. The man is like 14 terms overdue. This is what happens when there are no term limits. Incompetence in coming up with the nonsensical Dodd-Frank financial fix bill is ridiculous.
I'll only belive it once this clown is actually gone before I wish him a long-overdue good riddance from government disservice.
Not soon enough. This ideologue has done way too much damage to our nation.
Right on. We do need term limits!
We just need the other 434Congressmen and the 100 Senators to step down and the U.S. will begin to rebuild.
good riddance.
And there was much rejoicing...
Now he will go on the Freddie/Fannie payroll and rake in millions before he retires.
