(CNN) - Some of the Republican presidential candidates responded Tuesday to the charge that Herman Cain engaged in a lengthy extramarital affair, with rival Jon Huntsman issuing the strongest reaction.
Huntsman, the former Utah governor, said Cain should consider exiting the 2012 race for the White House.
"You've got to be reconsidering just based on how we have lost focus on the issues that really do matter," Huntsman told the Boston Globe Tuesday. "Every time another accusation comes up, it diminishes our ability to stay focused on the issues that really do matter for the American people."
"And I think that's a disservice to the voters," Huntsman added.
On Monday, Atlanta businesswoman Ginger White accused Cain of having had an affair with her that lasted nearly 14 years, a claim Cain immediately denied. But the former pizza executive and radio talk show host, who faced accusations of sexual harassment earlier in the month, told his staff Tuesday he is "reassessing" the viability of his campaign. One top campaign source told CNN he expects a decision "within a few days."
Fellow candidate and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann responded to the news, saying the campaign seems to be assessing their support in the wake of the allegations. She added that the revelation is yet another example she is the "consistent conservative in the race."
"As people have been shopping around for candidates they're going to come back home to see I've been the consistent constitutional conservative who's going to fight," Bachmann told WHO Radio in Des Moines, Iowa.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who has admitted to engaging in romantic relationships outside his marriages in the past, said it is a difficult situation for Cain and his family.
"I hope that he reaches whatever is the right decision for them," Gingrich told reporters in Bluffton, South Carolina Tuesday. "I think it's his decision to make. And he has to do what he thinks is best."

I have a feeling that Newt Gingrich might not have much comment on this. But the rest of the "holier than thou" right wing Christan bunch may pass judgment on it. I guess though Ann Coulter was WRONG...seems like "their Blacks AREN'T any better than our Blacks" after all.
I have a question for all those who still don't believe Cain cheated on his wife and propositioned women in subordinate positions: Can you name one instance where a public figure was openly accused of infidelity and he was later exonerated? When it gets to that stage, where there are specific people coming forward and not just rumours, they always did it.
And to Cain's lawyer who gave a non-denial, telling people it was none of their business: Bill Clinton was impeached by the Repugnants for less than Herman Cain stands accused of, and you don't think it is my business to know that a Repugnant candidate for that office is a liar and cheat? Are you insane?
So, the Black Moses who was called by God, and who reluctantly decided to run for President of the United States, turns out not to have been chosen by God after all.
His arrogance, narcissism, and lack of compassion and empathy for the poor and suffering did him in. Now HE is in need of compassion...I wonder if his brothers by another mother are standing by him? Probably not – at this time he is probably just another Black man who has no self control, cannot stay away from white women, and who is an long term adulterer. How does it feel to be labeled, stereotyped and judged, Mr. Cain?

Lost in Texas FOREVER and EVER, when has Coulter been right about anything meaningful? Cain's candidacy was a joke, just another example of an overly-ambitious person who was only catapulted into consideration due to how weak the GOP field is. A disgraced Speaker and a one-term governor who ranked near the bottom of the country in job creation have been challanged by a former food-industry executive, Fed board member and radio talk-show host who could not pass a quiz on current world affairs in an elementary school. This field is a not conservative, its a disgrace. The others in the field have their cult-like followers, but none of them have any vision as to where they will take the country and solve the problems facing us. What a stunning collection of intellectual mediocrities and moral lepers the GOP has become.

Of course. Cain should exit the race. These allegations seem to be true and he will never shake them. If he wants to stay in the race, he should consider coming clean and admitting them and then trying to move on with his campaign.

It seems that the Iowa repubkicans should make the decision and then this will let the rest of America know where the Republican voters stand on this issue of morality. Now somehow Michelle Bachman thinks that Cain's troubles make her the "consistent conservative in the race." my question to her is conservative in what way???
