Gingrich latest candidate to visit Trump

(CNN) - The parade of Republican 2012 hopefuls continues to march past reality television host Donald Trump, with the latest frontrunner, Newt Gingrich, slated to pay the mogul a visit Monday.

The meeting will take place at Trump Tower in New York, and a Trump spokesman said the conversation would likely wind up with Gingrich asking for "The Apprentice" host's endorsement.

"I can confirm that Mr. Trump and Mr. Gingrich are meeting on Monday at Trump Tower," Trump spokesman Michael Cohen said. "As to the sum and substance of the conversation to take place, there is no set agenda. I suspect, like the other Republican candidates, Newt will seek Mr. Trump's advice and endorsement."

Gingrich, the former House speaker, is the fifth known candidate to meet with Trump. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, businessman Herman Cain and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann have all paid Trump a visit at least once, with Bachmann meeting with Trump four times.

Trump, who decided against his own presidential bid in May, also met with former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin several months before she announced she was not seeking the 2012 GOP nomination.

–CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

Yes, they're still looking for Obama's birth certificate. This flock of GOP "dopefuls" is made up of some of the wackiest characters in our country. I have to say, it's very entertaining!

Donald Trump? I don't get it. What is this? Is it a pledge thing? Because if it is, then thay would explain why I don't understand and most likely never will. Trump has nothing to offer except dirty business tactics.

Okay- we can all agree that this crop of GOP/TP candidates for President are, shall we say, lackluster. But don't they see that any smidge of credibility they have eeked out (like Gingrich of late) gets dashed to the wind when they talk about bringing in someone like Trump for VP. He has even LESS qualifications for the office of the V.P. (and remember-one heartbeat from the Presidency) than Palin! He is a reality TV hack, a multiple bankruptsy pulling, greddy rich guy-with really bad hair!
Picking him shows yet again- the GOP/TP has no respect for the Office, or that they even believe their own tripe about American "exceptionalism" by pandering to dolts likeTrump.
Surely, we can do better than this...

Will this meeting lay the groundwork for a comparative adultery seminar? Get John Edwards and Eliot Spitzer, I hear they are available as well.

I am really struggling to see what conservatives find so important in Trump – the man was just fortunate to have more money than brains. At least someone like Warren Buffet would be a better choice, the man is a smart businessman that does not bankrupt himself, and actually understands more about the world than this faux birther t o o l.

what these clowns would do to get elected. No integrity or dignity of any kind. They would sale their souls to the devil if necessary to get elected.
Only Ron Paul is the only candidate who doesn't tell the people what they want to hear. He doesn't flip flop, he never lies, he has a perfectly common sense approach to everything from the economy to foreign policy. He's the only person you can bet will actually do the things he says, he's the only one who warned us about the economic bubble that was bound to burst and he'll get us all back to work

Either republicans completely over-estimate Trump's influence on the American electorate, or Trump has cast them under some type of spell that gets them to do things that will only benefit his publicity strategy. In the end, most people see all of this for what it is, a joke.

please correct me if I'm wrong here:
certain regulations were created because of the type of under the table accounting Enron and Tyco did. Gingrich wants to do away with that regulation... so that implies he's for under the table accounting? Thinks how many people lost their jobs and retirements due to such accounting practices. Gingrich was to do away with all regulations, even the ones that are suppose to keep financial companies from doing anohter melt down. Wonder how many hedge funds are feed his pocket. Has he not learned anyhting from the past? I thought he was a student of history... Sounds like he was absent during the Bush's years?

What has the Republican Party come to when Trump's butt is on the list of those to kiss when running fro POTUS? Maybe he should hold a "Political Apprentice" show where he gives them tasks to perform and then fires on each week! They could do away with the primary system and just let Captain Combover select the Republican candidate.

The contrests might include: a sting operation to capture illegal imigrants by luring them to back-breaking, low-paying jobs not good enough for Americans; a contest for developing marketing plans to convince all of the gays on Fire Island to "pray away" their sickness; a competition for the best business model to sell handguns in vending machines; or an advertising campaign to prove to children the earth os less than 6000 years old. Candidates who show any knowledge of world affairs, appreciation for diversity in our society, appreciation for science, or tolerance for other religions or lifestyles could be "fired" by Donald Trump. This would save a lot of time and money delivering the truly craziest person to the Tea Party to later get defeated by President Obama.

I dont understand why Republicans are dropping down on thier knees in front of Trump, the guy can barely pass as a human being and he's the worlds biggest snake oil salesman. If this was the wild west he'd be the guy who rolls through town selling his own spit in a bottle as a cure all and rainmaker, then trundles out of town with all the townsfolk's hard earned money. And that is the kind of guy that the Republicans are treating like the gatekeeper?
