(CNN) –- With news Saturday that Herman Cain is suspending his bid for the 2012 GOP nomination, many are wondering what the move means for his future.
Federal law doesn’t have a specific definition for “suspending” a political campaign, meaning Cain is still legally considered a candidate.
Because he did not officially drop out of the race, Cain will still be allowed to raise and spend campaign funds as if he were still seeking the nomination.
If he had told supporters Saturday he was ending his bid for the White House, Cain would have been permitted only to raise funds to retire debts accrued on the campaign trail.
Cain will still be required to file financial disclosure reports with the Federal Election Commission at the end of each fund-raising quarter.

Herman Cain should end his campaign and not suspend it!! He and everyone else knows it is over. Suspending the campaign creates the false impression that he could resume seeking the Republican Presidential Nomination for president in 2012. Everyone, including Cain knows that will not happen, given the series of campaign mistakes and gaffes, his weak grasp of foreign policy knowledge, his questionable 999 tax reform plan and his thirteen year affair with Ms. White. I think that it is better for all concerned if Mr. Cain spared him self, his family and the American people anymore embarrassment by dropping out of his campaign with dignity. He owes this act to all concerned.
Cain never had a real chance anyway! No experience, no record, no chance!

So if he endorses another candidate, will he still be allowed
to continue his "suspended" candidacy for fund raising purposes?
Mr Cain, we hate to see you go but you should have thought on this before declaring your intention of running for public office.

Cain was never a real contender. He was just thrown into the mix by the secret service so that black voters could see that they didn't automatically have to be Democrats and that they could also be successful in business. The ads with the smoker, the foreign policy blunders all point to a set-up. People didn't "like" Cain, they just prefer him over cult member Romney.
