BLITZER'S BLOG: This time Gingrich has the fire

(CNN) - Watching Republican presidential front-runner Newt Gingrich in action brings back lots of memories. I’ve been covering him for a long time. I’ve seen his ups and his downs.

While preparing for my interview tomorrow with the former House speaker in Washington, I reviewed an early interview I had with the then new Speaker on June 10, 1995. I was then CNN’s Senior White House Correspondent and was also anchoring “Inside Politics Weekend.” (Our tag line: “The events, the issues, the battles, the bites.”)

FULL STORY

Watch The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer weekdays at 4pm to 6pm ET and Saturdays at 6pm ET. For the latest from The Situation Room click here.

I wouldn't sy he has the fire. That's an overstatement. He has a spark that will soon die out.

Blitz is generally fair and balance. He is one of the few reasons one might turn from fox to look at the other news channel. Fire is a good word. Newt has conservatives fired up and ready to vote. Politics is dirty and here at last a conservative who is accused of being dirty but one who suits the time. Liberals are not playing nice and conservatives are ready to play them at their own game this time around.

The left seem to be nothing but name callers. Crude, rude, and offensive........that is what it means to be a Democrat?

    Glad I am an Independent.

Gingrich is the most intelligent, quickest, and most knowledgeable of the candidates. Whether he will win the primary or not, remains to be seen.

In any event, there is no way, this country can afford to have 4 more years of Obama. We will be worse off than Greece. The man is totally irresponsible with our money.

Hearing his comments brings back a lot of memories for me also – Ethics violations, deposed by own party, affair while wife was dying cancer...yes lots of memories. No of which would convince me to vote for him.

There is no denying the fact that Newt Gingrich became one of the most divisive politicians of the 1990s because of his words and deeds as Speaker of the House. You either loved him, or hated him. There was no middle ground on your opinioni of him, nor his opinion of everyone else. You were either his ally or an enemy to be demonized. Do we really want that type of personality in the White House during these tough economic times where some grand compromises will need to be made?

"Blitz" sure does love to take on the role of GOP cheerleader these days. CNN has lost all objectivity. Funny that the right-wingers insist CNN is liberal. Idiots.

Blizt last time lost the track on the question he asked Bachmann what she is eager to make cuts. Please make sure Newt does not dodge questions as well. Newt talks too much thats why people thinks he is knowledgeable while in the real sense he is not.

Nah. I think you are being unfair. Gingrich is on political fire. And, there is no Democratic field to speak about. What else are they supposed to talk about? Herman Cain? How about that new planet Earth NASA just found.

The article is neither pro nor con anybody or anything. It is just a recitation of memories. If anything, it is a bit boring. It's a realtively slow day in DC politics, at least by recent standards.
