(CNN) – "Joe the Plumber" took another step Wednesday in his Congressional bid.
Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, who gained notoriety during the 2008 presidential election after challenging then-presidential candidate Barack Obama on his small business tax plan, filed paperwork in Cleveland, Ohio to appear on the ballot in the GOP primary.
Wurzelbacher launched his bid for Ohio's 9th district in October and has since gathered the signatures necessary to qualify for the ballot.
"I have really enjoyed going door to door and meeting with voters," Wurzelbacher said in a statement. "The response has been great from both Democrats and Republicans."
The plumber-turned-celebrity capitalized on his political fame after the 2008 election by writing a book and making media appearances. If he wins the Republican primary, Wurzelbacher will face incumbent Democratic Representatives Marcy Kaptur or Dennis Kucinich.

This guy will fit right in with the GOP Travelling Circus as it careens around the country. So will Joe choose to be the happy clown or the sad clown?
This lowlife didn't pay child support for several years and owed back taxes also.
Joe The Plumber for Congress? Well somebody has got to go up there to make Congress look smarter. Oh that's not Joe's job? Well maybe he can clear the clog in Congress? Oh that requires a Licensed Plumber? Well what is Joe? Oh he is "Joe the Smo".
Hey Joe, WHERE YA' GOIN' WITH THAT PLUNGER IN YOUR HAND ?
.
Now Joe, remember the advice from YOUR MENTOR, SARAH DARLIN' :
RETREAT, DON'T RELOAD............RETREAT, DON'T RELOAD........RETREAT, DON'T RELOAD.......
Some one needs to check out those signatures to see if there forge. This guy has a habit of being a lying stupid rat.
Hooray for Sammie the tax dodger. GOP has a seemingly unending supply of clowns.
What happened to the Republican party? The anti-intellectual party where ignorance and bigotry are virtues. The party where facts are consider conspiracy theories and bumper stickers are considered quality legislation.
Since Obama was elected, dumbness has prevailed. CNN can you not say something, anything good about this President? I just heard Candy Crowley dip and duck every question that would not be flattering to Newt, but a honest response would have been nice. The same goes for John King.... Obama did this or that but....... always a but... Newt is as corrupt as you can get, even Fox is not as bad as you CNN!
He should run for President. He's just as Presidential as any of the other GOP candidates, which is to say not at all.
Sheesh the least he could do is have the decency to dress a bit better; This guy is a walking train wreck.
how much lower can the gop go?
The dumbing down of our country began in 2008 with McCain/Palin and it has not stopped.
I don't mind him running as long as his tax bill is paid in full. I don't like those that haven't paid what they due calling the shots.
American politics has truly gone down the toilet now.
