Washington (CNN) - A series of e-mail exchanges between officials at the Department of Health and Human Services shows growing alarm at the amount of projected profit from a government contract for a drug company whose controlling shareholder is a longtime Democratic Party activist.
Ronald Perelman is controlling shareholder of Siga Technologies, and a long-time Democratic Party activist and fund-raiser. He's also a large contributor to Republicans, but has been a particular friend of the Obama White House.

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama on Thursday celebrated the Jewish holiday of Hannukah a bit early, holding a White House reception more than a week before the eight-day festival begins.
"We're jumping the gun just a little bit," Obama told several hundreds guests at the event taking place 12 days before Hannukah starts on December 20. "The way I see it, we're just extending the holiday spirit."

(CNN) - In an interview on CNN's "The Situation Room," Donald Trump said he was surprised when former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney turned down an invitation to the upcoming Trump-moderated debate.
"He wants my endorsement very badly. We've seen him come up. We speak. I like him a lot. I think he's a terrific guy, but I was really surprised that he didn't want to do the debate," Trump told Wolf Blitzer, anchor of "The Situation Room."
The White House (CNN) – President Obama endorsed his administration’s decision to keep in place age restrictions on the purchase of Plan B, the so-called "morning after pill", without a prescription.
"I did not get involved in the process," Obama said when asked if he personally intervened in the matter. "This was a decision that was made by Kathleen Sebelius, the Secretary of HHS."

The effort by the campaign to consolidate its conservative base ranges from phone conversations initiated by Gingrich, email exchanges with the candidate as well as a two-hour session between Gingrich and about 70 prominent conservative activists.

(CNN) - Michele Bachmann became the latest candidate to decline Donald Trump's invitation to his upcoming Republican presidential debate, her top spokesperson, Alice Stewart, told CNN.
She's the fifth candidate to turn down the offer, leaving former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich as the only two candidates scheduled to face off at the event.

(CNN) - Rick Santorum scoffed at some of his fellow GOP presidential candidates on Thursday for turning down Donald Trump's debate invitation.
"Many of my opponents jockeyed to be the first to fly up to New York and use Donald Trump for a photo op and no doubt try and secure an endorsement," the former Pennsylvania senator said in a statement. "But when Donald wants to moderate a debate – they refuse to attend. That's what's so wrong with politics today – hypocrisy."
