Palestinians attack Gingrich comment on 'invented' people

(CNN) - Senior Palestinian leaders on Saturday strongly criticized comments by Republican presidential frontrunner Newt Gingrich that the Palestinians are an "invented" people, calling them ignorant and racist.

Top Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat said the Gingrich remark was "the most racist statement I've ever seen."

Israel continues to build settlements and will never stop until they control the region. For a historian to say that Palistinians are "invented" is completely dishonest.

Texas was a part of Spain, Mexico, France, the Confederacy, The Republic of Texas, and the United States (at least untli Rick Perry has his way). Are Texans an "invented" people? Newt is of course dishonest... but what about those who support him while claiming to value honesty? Who are they lying to?

This was in fact an inflamatory statement. I personally agree with the Speaker. This all goes back to Biblical times and the land mass given to the Herbrew (Jewish) people by God. It was HIs land and He bequeathed to the Hebrews. This land is a known tract of land as described in the Bible. If the Hebrews want to sell part of it to the people in question calling themselves Palestinians, they could, it is rightfully theirs. Being Politically correct is not the same as being actually correct. Too many of our politicians are concerned only with being politically correct.

Newt and the GOP-baggers continue to show the world what embarrassments they are. Regardless of your personal feelings, the Palestinians are a people without a country. And for everything the Israelis know about oppression, you'd think they would be more familiar with the Palestinian people's sentiment. There is a path to peace, but extreme right-wingers like Netanyahu have no real interest in peace, and when the rest of the Middle East sees how oppressive, and petulant Israel is, and when they see how the US and the West supports Israel so unconditionally, it only perpetuates their hatred toward us.

I am not a Gingrich supporter however, these folks that call themselves PAlestians created themselves inorder to garner support. Palestine was a Roman invention to destroy Judea and the Jewish entity.

Gingrich will insult the intelligence of the American voters with his "facts" if he thinks it will sway those who are not smart enough to see through his delusional hype.

Does that make Americans an "invented people", since they are all descendants of european and other nation's migrants? I simply can't believe the level that some politicians will go to try and secure votes. Please America, do the right thing and send Obama back for a second term. These republican candidates are a joke!

WOW!!!!! Now just who thinks rationally, would ever want Gingrich as a President! Good he opened his mouth wide and shoved his brains in with that Comment he made! He is far too overfed looking and in that I mean he looks pasty faced unhealthy, not necessarily just overweight! He cannot win the Presidency and so he may as well bow out with his ego intact now! As far as I am concerned THE best most rational, literate person is already in the White House and President Obama inherited a mess from the Fat Cat Bush Regime! Did anyone really think that he could produce miracles inheriting a War and the worst economic mess ever! He is absolutely doing THE best that anyone could have done. Shay, my spouse, an American, is a Vietnam Veteran and he too has been very happy that President Obama is at the helm of America, as are many other Vets. Wake up folks do not allow BS campaign trail chatter to sway you!

Why can't Newt just keep his flapping jowls idle until he gets the republican nomination, then he can show his stupidity?

My dads village was destroyed by Israel in 1948. Prior to that it existed for 2000 years in Palestine. Jimzu has existed before their ever was an Israel, Ottoman empire, Roman empire.

Perhaps you were referring to the Ashkenazi jews who were invented?

Mr. Newt perhaps better sit this election out since he is too stupid.

I hope that Hamas never gets to do to the Jewish people what every Democrat wants to do to every Conservative in America, but far leftists like the national socialists of Germany are always focused on exterminating the groups they hate the most.

Those who support the Daily Democrat Chicago machine are either ignorant or full of hate, Republicans gets the decent, good hearted, compassionate vote out of default once again!

Oops! Newt, looks like you're not quite ready for prime time. Can't just spout your mouth off about subjects that are waaay beyond your depth. Sounds great to the conservative christian right waiting on the rapture but dangerous for those of us who truly value humanity and other humans. Time to go sit in a corner and let the grown ups discuss this.

A lot of posters here know nothing about history of the middle east. The palestinians are a people put into the are by Arabs to be a thorn in the side of Israel. The big lie that the palestinians were there first was concocted by the Arabs using the palestinians as pawns. As such, they are truly "invented people" and Gingrich, who knows his history, was correct in calling them that.
