Gingrich taps Rubio aide in Florida

Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is ramping up operations in Florida with the man behind Marco Rubio’s Senate campaign that rocked Sunshine State politics and challenged the national Republican Party establishment.

The former House speaker hired Rubio’s Senate campaign manager, Jose Mallea, to be his Florida state director. With less than two months to go before the Jan. 31 primary, Gingrich is significantly behind well-financed Mitt Romney when it comes to a campaign presence beyond the first three game-changing states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

Mrs. Romney chided husband on bet

Hudson, New Hampshire (CNN) – Mitt Romney offered up a mea culpa via his wife Sunday, the day after the presidential candidate offered his opponent a $10,000 bet in a debate performance some analysts called his weakest to date.

"After the debate was over Ann came up and gave me a kiss and said I was great. And she said, 'There are a lot of things you do well. Betting isn't one of them,'" Romney told reporters in New Hampshire.

Newt Gingrich's faith journey: How a thrice-married Catholic became an evangelical darling

(CNN) – There's an e-mail war raging among some of the nation's leading evangelicals over whether Newt Gingrich has repented enough for his sins to be president.

One recent skirmish was set off by an open letter urging Gingrich to give a major speech confronting his perceived moral stumbles, including an affair with his third wife, Callista, while married to No. 2.

Perry keeps up bet criticism of Romney

(CNN) – Although Rick Perry avoided taking any digs at his GOP opponents during remarks in Ames Sunday afternoon, reporters caught up with the Texas governor on his way out of a crowded coffee shop and goaded him into a few jabs at Mitt Romney.

When asked about Romney’s suggestion at Saturday night’s debate that the two bet $10,000 over whether or not there was a passage removed from Romney’s book pertaining to health care mandates, Perry said the proposal shows the top-tier candidate is out of touch with average voters.

Perry continues campaign push in Iowa, faces hecklers

Ames, Iowa (CNN) – A day after a debate that saw much of the GOP field gang up on front-runners Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry largely avoided the debate's big issues while continuing his Iowa push Sunday afternoon at Café Diem in Ames.

Although Perry is clearly making a big finish in the first caucus state a key part of his campaign strategy, he chose not to pander to the local crowd.

Romney's 'out of touch,' Perry says

(CNN) – Rick Perry capitalized Sunday on fellow Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney's large bet offer the night before.

The Texas governor said Romney’s proposed $10,000 wager during Saturday's debate is a sign the former Massachusetts governor is "a little out of touch with normal Iowa citizens."

Poll: Good news for Gingrich and Obama in early states

(CNN) – Newt Gingrich is the frontrunner for the GOP nomination in the early primary states of South Carolina and Florida, but he and fellow top-tier candidate Mitt Romney fall short when faced with President Barack Obama, according to a new survey.

The NBC News/Marist poll released Sunday showed Gingrich, the former House speaker, leading Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, by 19 percentage points in South Carolina and by 15 points in Florida as he continues his surge in the 2012 race.
