New ad ties Solyndra to Obama’s ‘wasteful cronyism’

(CNN) – A Republican-leaning independent group will attack the Obama administration over its connection to Solyndra, the now-bankrupt solar energy company, in a new ad airing Monday.

The spot from Crossroads GPS is set to run for the next week nationally and says the company is an example of "cronyism" in the White House.

Solyndra secured a half-billion-dollar loan guarantee from the federal government, the first such company to receive a loan under the stimulus program to encourage green energy. They filed for bankruptcy in September.

"Obama gives his supporters at Solyndra a $535 million loan even though its business plan is risky," the ad says. "Solyndra goes bankrupt, the FBI is investigating and who pays the bill? We do. No jobs, just more red ink."

The current administration has defended the loan restructuring to the company, backed by a major Obama supporter, saying the infusion of cash postponed its downfall.

A memo from the political action committee said the new ad, which is part of a $500,000 cable television buy, reveals the inherent downside of President Barack Obama's support of "government as a guarantor of economic prosperity and fairness."

"The new ad, called 'Typical,' exposes the grubby reality behind Obama's high-flown rhetoric, and begins to clarify the crucial policy choices Americans face: between President Obama's expensive, ineffective agenda and a realistic path toward economic and fiscal recovery," the memo says.

Crossroads launched during the 2010 election cycle with the help of Karl Rove to promote Republican candidates across the country. Although they have released ads in early voting states and sites of competitive Senate elections ahead of the 2012 elections, Monday's offensive is part of a new effort to strike the president's record.

These people are notorious for telling lies. Also they can not even pick an upstanding republican candidate. Who cares about their ads.

Here's a two word response to those hypocritical Republican Tea Partiers who think this is something they wish to pursue: Cheney, Halliburton.

Anything from that slimy Karl Rove is just ewwww. He makes my skin crawl. But, hey, since he's the "architect" of the administration that brought us to the precipice, and you like the recession, go ahead and believe everything he says.

The country of Solyndra has been the top story on Fox News for weeks. Chris Wallace brought up yesterday with Sen. McConnell yesterday on the Sunday talk show as part of their closing discussion.

( I found Wallace's choice of words to be rather curious for his role as an impartial journalist. He referred to Democrats as "Democrats" and "they." But, he referred to Republicans as "us" and "we" )

I would not give darn hoot at these idiotic advertisements. It is just like that DVD before Obama's election sent to me depicting Obama is linked to Bin Laden. What happened is Obama won landslide victory. Obama2012.

Ok let's see how many Faux Viewers see this as the truth. Obama is anything but a corporate crony. The president supports alternative fuel sources because the fossil fuel market is dominated by the middle east. The obvious connections (pay attention GOP / Tea people), between the wars we are fighting and our need for oil, puts us at a disadvantage.

Sure, you may disagree with his policies, but if he is such a bad president, just tell the truth and you'll win the argument. Oh....what's that you say?....telling the truth would be a bad thing for your prospects? Yes it would. Because when you think logically and pragmatically, you end up on the President's side. Think stupid, faux noise, brainless craziness; well, that puts you with the GOP circus that's coming to a primary near you.

I have something short and sweet for this: Haliburton, no-bid contracts, and Dick Cheney. Compare the sweetheart deal money that went to Cheney's former company to Solyndra, and its peanuts.

"The new ad, called 'Typical,' ...

Is nothing more than typical Karl Rove sleaze, bought and paid for by the ...who are they, again? ... oh, yeah, ... the "we ain't saying who we are" ... crowd of millionaires and billionaires.

The bigger picture is that this decision by the Obama Administration was typical of their approach to the economic downturn. It was overwhelmed by the political implications of helping a large Democratic donor try and make good on his bad investment. In fact, every investment this administration has made to"help the economy" has only used the poor economy as an excuse to make a political investment. Look at the Stimulus, ObamaCare, the Auto Company bailouts, the extension of unemployment benefits to 99 weeks and so on and so on. The problem now is that both the economy and their political position are in bad shape.

We can do better as a country. But first we have to put up with this charade for 1 more year.

When Cheney ran the Bush white house, did he disclose who the participants of big oil were in attendance for their energy plans?

Republicans see this as a double opportunity. They can get the "swift-boat" lies to working and they can speak out against renewable energy. A chance to lie AND help big oil! Win-win!

  14. Democrats answer to everything, TAX THE RICH, TAX BUSINESS

Funny how Democrats and the leftists on this board want to bury this story. $535 MILLION taxpayer dollars WASTED and laws broken, many visits to the Whitehouse for the big Obama money raiser who was a major investor in this scam company. He will line his pockets because the law was broken and the Whitehouse is stonewalling the investigation.

I guess the left doesn't care when corruption, waste and fraud is happening on a massive scale under their watch.

What about the extra $7 trillion the Bush/Rove administration secretly gave away for TARP? Fox News mentions it but so far has not pointed fingers as to who actually gave it away. Given them time, they will blame Obama just before the election.

The Solyndra deal was STARTED by Bush - it was finalized by Obama. Wake up people, propaganda is propaganda and if it smells like Armey, Rove, Koch, it's probably propaganda (a lie repeated over and over and over -– ad nauseum).

Even the disclaimer is a lie. There's nothing about Crossroads that's grassroots, unless you consider a few unnamed fat cat donors led by Rove as grassroots.

Democrats are not running from this issue, so stop promoting the chorus line that they are. I think you are confusing don't care about the issue with caring about what Fox News says are the issues.

Actually, the Bush Administration rejected putting any money in this company because of even less information about the bad shape of the company than Obama had. You have to admit, this investment turned out remarkedly similar to the rest of Obama's attempts at "fixing" the economy. The money is gone and unemployment is up.

Solyndra went bankrupt. Stuff happens. The auto industry, meanwhile, DID NOT. Thanks for the bailout President Obama, AND for attempting to find alternate sources of energy for our country.

"New ad ties Solyndra to Obama’s ‘wasteful cronyism’"

Well, of course GOP/Teatrolls/Crossroads are resorting to ads to generate this perception: Issa's investigation is failing to do prove it, so they have to go with Plan B, an MSM-supported misinformation campaign. Who cares about facts when you can get the idiot masses to believe ANYTHING?

    December 12, 2011 10:23 am at 10:23 am |

Uh huh. Nice try, Karl Rove. The company got this money via TARP. Let's try and remember what President approved that bailout. Does the GOP ever deal with facts? Ever?
