(CNN) - The Hispanic Leadership Network announced Friday it will join CNN, CNN en Español, and The Republican Party of Florida as a co-sponsor for the Republican Presidential Debate set for Jan. 26 in Jacksonville, Florida.
"Hispanics and Republicans naturally share many of the same core values," former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who serves as the HLN Conference Co-Chair, said in a statement. Washington (CNN) – Negotiations on a compromise that would extend the payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits continued Friday, with Senate leaders and the White House saying progress was being made as Congress prepared to go into its end-of-year recess.
White House spokesman Jay Carney described the situation as "quite fluid" and expressed cautious optimism that agreement would be reached on a proposal pushed hard by President Barack Obama but resisted by Republicans.

(CNN) – Texas Gov. Rick Perry expressed dismay on Friday over rival Ron Paul's call at Thursday night's debate to ease sanctions on Iran.
"I was really taken aback by the power of [Paul's] statement from the standpoint of allowing the Mullahs and a madman to come into possession of a nuclear bomb and that we should not care about that," Perry said on CNN'S "John King, USA."

(CNN) – Michele Bachmann accused fellow GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich of talking down to her at the debate Thursday night, saying the former House speaker is "memory challenged."
"Well, frankly, I thought that it was outrageous and insulting, the way that he seemed to treat me like I was a student and I'm not. I'm a serious candidate for president of the United States and I had my facts right and he has said this repeatedly and he's just not true," Bachmann said on CNN's "The Situation Room" Friday. "He's memory challenged."

(CNN) – Having interviewed Michele Bachmann on many occasions, I can easily say she is one tough lady. She is not shy at all about speaking her mind. And that was very obvious at the GOP debate Thursday night in Iowa when she unloaded on Newt Gingrich.
She told him that it was "outrageous" for him to say she gets her facts wrong. "I'm a serious candidate for president of the United States," she declared repeatedly.
