Congress to vote on spending bill to avert shutdown

Washington (CNN) – The House of Representatives will vote Friday on a compromise $1.043 trillion spending bill to keep the government funded for the rest of the fiscal year, then go home for the holidays, Speaker John Boehner said.

If approved as expected, the measure would then go to the Senate. While Senate approval also is considered certain, it is unclear if a Senate vote would take place on Friday or Saturday.

The march towards bankruptcy continues unabated. Only when all branches of govenrment are in Republican control, can the issue of fiscal responsibility be addressed truthfully. Until this happens, our future continues to be that of Greece. And it ain't a pretty future, especially for our kids and grand kids. How on earth could we possibily be doing this to them??? None of us deserve a Christmas present this year and any year going forward as long as our country's financial soundness is in question.

Yes, the elite 1% of Greece caused their problems just like our GOP bowing to our elitist 1% will drive us into oblivion.

We have been there and done that. Republicans had control of all branches of government from 2001 to 2007. The result was the biggest explosion of deficit spending this country has ever seen. Bush's own economic advisor predicted and warned of trillion dollar deficits within a decade. So they fired him.

Oh hadn't heard that. Just that they couldn't afford to keep paying huge pensions to people to retire at the ripe old age of 50, five zero. Life must be very tough over there with all that salty sea air and sunshine...

It seems the lefties only have one answer to all the worlds problems. Steal somebody else money and give it to them.

You mean "truths" like "if I voluntarily cut my revenue without first decreasing my fixed expenses, then I have a spending problem not a revenue problem"? Freekin nonsense.

That Democrats voted for as well.

    >tax cuts,

that Democrats voted for as well. And the lastest round OBAMA signed into law.

    >Where were you then?

Where the heck have YOU been???!!! Democrats voted for all this stuff too!!! Please don't act like you've had no part in this. We weren't all born yesterday.

No, socialist policies caused the problems Greece is having now. The policies of "social equality" (or whatever they are calling it), that the current administration has been forcing on us for the past 3 years, is sending the USA in the same direction. If we don't change things, we can look at Greece and see our future. We need at least 1 term of true conservative governing to straighten out the mess created by the moderate and left wing administrations we have had the past several decades.

Really??? Please add up all those numbers because Obama's total after only 3 years dwarfs them. Almost 5 TRILLION for Obama and going strong for the foreseeable future and that was BEFORE Obamacare. If and when that gets added to the mix (hopefully repealed soon), the game is over. Checkmate. Bankrupt.

Isn't that exactly what Ronald Reagan did when he declared the surplus in the Social Security trust fund "the people's money" and announced that he was going to give it to the wealthiest Americans. When critics pointed out that the middle class built that fund, not the wealthy, he uttered a phrase that would change this country for decades. He pointed out that the wealthy would spend the money and that it would "trickle down" to the middle class multiple times over through job creation.

Reagan tried to kill Social Security by draining the fund of all its' money. He nearly succeeded, which is why the fund had to be rescued in the early 1980s. This is why the fund is endangered today. That money, and more since, has never been paid back to the trust fund.

Truth and nothing, blah, blah, blah... It must be opposite day, because all of your ridiculous posts have zero truth in them, only Faux News misinformation. And as far as executive experience is concerned, the only person who has the experience needed to be president is President Obama. Three years and he's managed to stave off a depression, save the auto industry, kill Bin Laden, get health care for millions more Americans, stop job losses, get the markets back up to pre meltdown levels, all the while having to manage the most divisive and obstructive Congress in modern times! Obama 2012, seriously, the only sane choice.

Clearly this "Truth of Nothing" is a right wing hack, achieving exactly what they want – spreading nasty lies with the hope it will distract others and get them to waste time responding to the baseless lies. Typical GOP tactics.
Everything is just repeating the GOP talking points created through loathsome creatures like Frank Luntz and the fox media/rushball propaganda lizards.
Throughout the history of man these vicious parasites have operated in the shadows under many names promoting fear & hate.

Interesting... Democrats controlled the House during reagan's whole time in office. The House appropriates all spending by law. If Reagan did anything, it was with the consent and cooperation of the Democrats.

You need to do your homework better....

hey Girgle ~ so when Bush’s tax cuts and un-funded wars didn't bring jobs or economic expansion – actually lead to an implosion of both which we are still struggling to recover from – where you in some cave?
Probably in your delusional world Bush was not a "true" Repub, but some kind of leftist socialist Demopublican?

Practice what you preach. Haven't you ever heard of a veto? Reagan vetoed everything until it was what he wanted. He wanted to "return The People's money" back to them through tax cuts. The term "trickle down economics" cannot be found in any textbook or in print anywhere prior to the Reagan administration because it was a Reagan campaign advisor who invented the term.

@native, Bush was a moderate. Though I suppose to someone as far left as you and your compatriots are, someone in the middle would seem very conservative/right wing to you. Since ya'll are so far left it makes sense that your opinions don't matter since your views are narrowed so much by your blinders.
