Obama campaign returns Corzine donations

(CNN) - President Barack Obama's reelection campaign returned political donations made by Jon Corzine, the embattled former Democratic governor and senator from New Jersey, on Friday.

The move comes as Corzine endures increased scrutiny following the bankruptcy of his brokerage firm MF Global. Corzine was CEO of the company until it declared bankruptcy in October and he subsequently resigned. Hundreds of millions of dollars in customer funds from MF Global are still missing.

An Obama campaign aide said Friday the Obama campaign and Democratic National Committee returned the donations by Corzine and his wife. The donations totaled $70,000.

Corzine and his wife each donated $30,800 to the DNC, which has been returned.

Additionally, Corzine and his wife each made $5,000 donations to the Obama reelection campaign, which was also returned.

The Republican National Committee called on Obama to return all of the money Corzine raised for his reelection campaign in November, including money he raised as a "bundler." Bundlers solicit campaign contributions from their personal and business networks.

"In light of the FBI Investigation into Jon Corzine's company, President Obama should immediately return the $500,000 that Corzine raised on his behalf," RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement in November.

Bet Romney won't return his millions to the people who lost their jobs.

And KNOW Mr. Tiffany's won't return his $1.6 million to Freddie Mac (for "history lessons").

The story alone is more valuable to Obama's re-election campaign than the donation itself. I hope Obama does not miss the opportunity it presents.

Check it out. Here is a sizable Democratic doner who's company has been allowed to go bankrupt WITHOUT taking down a few hundred million taxpayer dollars with it! That's the real news here. ( But can this be verified?)

What's the problem? Obama backed this man for Governor of NJ. Just because it looks like he has done something illegal is no reason to give money back. Gee whiz. He's now eligbile to be President.

Smart thing to do. The Republicans are still going to try to make an issue out of it, but better to do it and let them carp than be forced to return it under the glare of the spotlight.

Big Deal! Don Corzonalini will just launder the money back to Democrats by contributing to Left Wing Radical Groups who then contribute to the Messiah Obama. Hey CNN why don't you do "some digging" and find out where Don Conrzonalini got the money in the first place, and where he sends it once the Messiah sends it back to him. They'll probably invest in Speech Monitors for Messiah Obama to read from during his campaign for 2012.

I like Obama, but this is indicative of the problems with our current political system. Nobody knows where the money comes from and the ones in power generally don't care. I appreciate the fact that Obama returned the money but he shouldn't have taken it to begin with. I understand HE probably wouldn't have if he'd known what was going on. But you don't have to look far to see those that do take the money and know where it comes from. Makes me wish I was rich so I could control a country.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, the President said he will return all the money Corzine donated when TeaPublicans pack it in and go home or whenever they jump out of air planes and prove they got wings and can fly. If, however, during their attempt to fly, they fail and have to use their parachute and if the chute fails and they crash land on earth, if they will return the parachute in person the President will write each of them a check for the cost of the parachute.
