(CNN) - Donald Trump continued to tease a potential presidential run by changing his voter registration Thursday from Republican to "unaffiliated" and publicly denouncing the behavior of members of his former party.
Michael Cohen, an aide to Trump, said the real estate mogul and reality television star made the switch "in order to preserve his right to run for president as an independent if he's not satisfied with who the Republicans nominate."
The change was made with the New York State Board of Elections.
Cohen added that Trump was "disgusted with the way Republicans are handling" the payroll tax cut extension, saying the actions of Republicans were partly to blame for his party change.
Cohen also cited foreign policy issues, claiming Trump had been ahead of the curve in predicting security issues in Iraq after the U.S. pulled out troops.
"Iraq is imploding. Who else has been saying this except Trump?" Cohen said.
Trump's party switch is just the latest move taken by the businessman to indicate he might run for president. He very publicly contemplated a run in the Spring before announcing he wasn't willing to give up his reality show "The Apprentice" to launch a campaign.
Trump's presidential aspirations sprung up again in December, when he cancelled his appearance as moderator of a presidential debate, saying he wasn't "willing to give up my right to run as an independent candidate."
"....Trump had been ahead of the curve in predicting security issues in Iraq after the U.S. pulled out troops..." Many of the rest of us were ahead of HIS curve in predicting security issues in Iraq after the U.S. troops pulled IN!
Open letter to those on this post: Chech for propper grammer, pselling errers andd typeos before u's guys make a coment; Don't use contractions–they're not acceptable; One word sentences? Simple. Eliminate; Finally don't use run on sentences because they tire the reader long before you get to the long winded, unending, meandering, random tangents of your pseudo politico pontificating of which you need to go back to 8th grade and get an education becuase a mind is a terrible thing to use
@Hamsta you need to get off the dems for welfare BS. There are more poor republicans on welfare than anyone. Go to the midwest, the deep south, and a lot of your other red states. Also you must not be a Christian and obviously you only caree about yourself and no one else. The government should help those in need whether republican or democrat. I would hate to see you down on your luck, because I guarantee that you will be looking for a hand out. What the government needs to do is crack down on those scamming the system.Everyone needs help every now and then. I bet your motives are the same as the rest of your GOP/TPers. If you want a clown for president then keep voting republican, libertarian or independent., because so far that is all that I see running on your side of the fence.
Who cares if this bum does'nt stay as a republican. In politics he is a stupid but may be good in business. he better stay doing what he does best – screw people and squeeze money and get rich.
Run DONALD Run!!!!
Oh, I so hope Donald runs so I can see him waste his money on a futile effort.
"Iraq is imploding. Who else has been saying this except Trump?" ummmmmmmmm, everyone – dating back to 2002.
The GOP dumped you a long time ago, putz. Shoo. Under your rock.
I wish Trump would get back in for good. Loosing Cain was a loss of a lot of good jokes.
Trump could pick up the "clown" slack left behind by Cain.
I would like to see Governor 1% Cokeanose and Trump in mud fights.
All that is left for the repugs is newt's slime and what's his name's old racist letters.
dull dull duller dullest ~ comon' repugs give me a sign
What has happened to the once-proud Republican party? Look at their slate of candidates! They have one winner in the bunch but, because he is a sane and decent man, a step above the rest and will not play the Tea Party's games, he can not even get recognized -- Jon Huntsman. Obama will win in 2012. Many Tea Party candidates will be voted out and, in 2016 once the Republican party has gained some intelligence and class, Jon Huntsman will be their candidate and he would make a fine president for all Americans. There is hope for our great country.
Temper tanTrump, the NY kiddo is FIRED to dump the WH darker! how imbecile US politics is for the past 3 yrs!
Yawn. More hot hair from the world's biggest narcissist.
The standard opinion among many BEFORE the Iraq War got underway was that the result would be three nations instead of one. The Kurds would definitely secede as soon a it was legitimately possible (we're just about there at the present), and the Sunni/Shiite civil war would commence as soon as the US troops withdrew from the region. General Colin Powell made this point very clearly with his "you break it, you own it" comments.
As usual, the blowhard, Trump, is years behind the curve.....not in front of it.
"Iraq is imploding. Who else has been saying this except Trump, 125 milliom US citizens, all the people of Iraq, every person in DC and all the hop heads on the lower bowery, not to mention everyone in Europe, Asia and Africa?" Cohen said.
Santa, all I want for Christmas is Donald Trump to make an independent run for President. The gift that keeps on giving!
Trump didn't make a bold prediction about Iraq. The enemy has been waiting for us to leave so they could try to take over. That's why we set a date for Iraq to start protecting themselves. We have enough people living off of our government, we don't need Trump or the republicans feeding the military machines. If America can afford to spend trillions on killing the enemy then the rich can afford to pay more since they benefit the most.
