Santorum hunts birds and serves up photo op

Adel, Iowa (CNN) - Opting not to hunt for votes one day after Christmas, a gun-toting Rick Santorum went on a different kind of hunt on Monday.

The black pheasants, quail and chukars set in his sights didn't have a chance.

Place your bets: Company proposes options market for elections

(CNN) - As soon as next week, a new market may open, where anyone can place bets on the outcome of upcoming political contests.

A small trading exchange in Chicago, the North American Derivatives Exchange (Nadex), has asked federal regulators for permission to sell options tied to the results of various 2012 elections - including the U.S. presidency, control of the Senate, and control of the House of Representatives.

Potential Iowa GOP kingmaker conflicted about endorsing

Washington (CNN) - Iowa GOP Congressman Steve King, whose support is coveted by Republican presidential candidates, said he hoped to endorse one of them months ago. But like many other Iowa Republican voters, he is having a hard time picking a horse in this Republican field.

"I've said all along I want my head and my heart to come together, and when that happens I'll jump in with both feet. That just hasn't happened yet," King told CNN.

(CNN) - I am beginning to suspect that Iraq could wind up following Yugoslavia’s example.

As you know, there once was a country called Yugoslavia. It had several distinct provinces based on ethnic differences: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Kosovo and Serbia. You get the point.

Perry touts part-time Congress pitch in new TV ad

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) - Rick Perry's presidential campaign says it's going up Monday in the first-in-the-nation caucus state with a new TV commercial that touts the Texas governor's anti-Washington credentials and highlights his calls for a part-time Congress.

The campaign tells CNN the 30-second spot will run state wide in Iowa. It comes eight days before the January 3 caucuses, which kick off the primary and caucus calendar.

CARROLLTON, Georgia (CNN) - Newt Gingrich claims that it was his first wife, not Gingrich himself, who wanted their divorce in 1980, but court documents obtained by CNN appear to show otherwise.

The Republican presidential candidate, now in his third marriage, has been peppered with attacks and questions about his divorce from Jackie Gingrich for the past three decades.

Influential guest to join Santorum on campaign hunt

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) - An influential conservative Republican congressman in the Hawkeye State will join GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum at a campaign event Monday.

Rep. Steve King will team up the former senator from Pennsylvania at a pheasant hunt in Adel, Iowa, a source with knowledge of the event confirms to CNN.
