BLITZER'S BLOG: Iraq could break apart

(CNN) - I am beginning to suspect that Iraq could wind up following Yugoslavia’s example.

As you know, there once was a country called Yugoslavia. It had several distinct provinces based on ethnic differences: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Kosovo and Serbia. You get the point.

Say Ollie, would someone please tell us this, WHY DID AMERICA ATTACK IRAQ ? WHAT ON EARTH DID IRAQ HAVE TO DO WITH THE SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 ATTACKS ON OUR COUNTRY ?
    .
Well Stan, DUBYA said that he was sent by YOU KNOW WHO to lead the American nation – oh, AND CHENEY, ROVE, AND HIM COULD ATTACK ANYBODY, AT ANYTIME, AT ANY PLACE, for ANY REASON !!
    .
But Ollie, IF WE WOULD HAVE LEFT IRAQ ALONE, THEN THOSE FOLKS WOULD HAVE MADE THEIR OWN, THEIR VERY OWN, CHOICE, RIGHT ?
    .
Stan, WE CAN ONLY STAND BACK AND WATCH – WHICH IS WHAT WE SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE BEGINNING !!

Iraq was a pot of boiling vittles and the US was the only thing keeping the lid on; the only way to keep stuff from spilling out the pot was to keep our hand on the lid (an active US presence for the next 50 years)....and we cannot/could not afford it.

Democracy only works when enough people are more loyal to democracy than they are to their own power. The Shiites, especially those under Iran's influence, are still thinking like Saddam – get the power then take what you want. And what they want is revenge on the Sunnis and the oil in the Kurdish areas. Odds are the eventual big winner in this mess will be Iran, and every fool in this country who bought into "Saddam's gonna get a nuke and give it to bin Laden" bears a small part of the blame.

The streets of Bagdad are still a million times safer than the streets of Newark, Detroit, Chicago, or Camden. That means that even the most crazy radical Islamist leaders still are less extreme and value human life more so than liberal Democrats in America. Just the facts, these cities have been ruled by Democrats, and 100% by Democrats for the last 50 years.

Who cares? We should have left well enought alone in 2003, but we all know how that turned out. We need to deal with our own problems in this country.

"get the power then take what you want."

I love it, if Democrats had honesty like moderates and conservatives, this would be the sign that each lib would be holding up at the DNC Conventions.

Obummie didn't want the surge which was a great victory for us and wanted to cut and run. Biden wanted to split the country into 3 countries. Obummie just cut and ran for political reasons against the advice of his military generals. Now all gains made will go for nothing. Mission accomplished Obummie.

Just how many bombs have been detonated in each of these cities??? I must have missed the news of that happening. Do we really have suicide bombers in that many states?? As a Dem. I'm getting a LITTLE (NOT) SICK of Reps. blaming anything they choose on the entire Dem. Party!!

Those crazy republicans just have to have more wars.

Iraq will certainly break apart. When "W" invaded the place everybody else on the planet knew that fact. Just ask Colin Powell... you remember him... the only person in the Bush cabinet who understood military matters only to be ignored. Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld should face charges for their crimes.

Why does everyone act as if we had no reason to invade iraq? They say we have no evidence of weapons of mass destruction but they wont even consider looking at the forensic evidence stating that hussein used them on300,000 of his own people and buried them in mass graves.whos to say he wasnt funding al quaeda?

Doug, are you stoned, stupid, or desperate for attention? None of your posts have anything to do with reality.

You know what – if the Iraqi's do not want to fight for their country then so be it. We broke it and we fixed it and in some instances more than once. If they break it now, they have to fix it, not us. And if they are dumb enough to let terrorists in their country to plan attacks against the US, then they will be subject to the same punishment of any other country. It is time for smart attacks and not invasions.

Iraq is on their own we have our own problems. We should have not been there from the beginning.

I said before the war began that we had best be careful what we wished for. People in Iraq are doing exactly what others predicted, they would go from one extreme to the other, and that other extreme is far less friendly to us no matter the blood and treasure we spent. This is proof if nothing else the the war should never have been fought in the first place.
Doug, I have often wondered why it is the right hates America as much as they do and your comments start to make that quite clear.
