Decorah, Iowa (CNN) - It was a rare sight, but Callista Gingrich, wife of GOP hopeful Newt Gingrich, stepped in front of the microphone to introduce her "husband and best friend" at a pizzeria Tuesday.
As much as the former House speaker boasts of his wife's involvement in his campaign, she rarely speaks on the record or at campaign events. She is a familiar face on the campaign trail and at book signings, often standing next her husband at the podium, but she rarely takes center stage herself.
Callista Gingrich, who attended Luther College, chose to make the final stop in Tuesday's Iowa campaign swing in the college town to introduce her husband at Mabe's Pizza.
She shared some of her personal history with a packed room in the basement of the legendary pizza restaurant.
"One little known fact is that I actually lived upstairs above Mabe's Pizza as a senior, so Mabe's is very special to me," she said.
She quickly moved on to tout her husband's credentials.
"A lot of people ask me why Newt would be a good president, and I really think that Newt has been preparing for this challenge his entire life," she said in Decorah.
"He has a proven record of national leadership, a thorough understanding of our nation's history and a genuine love for our country, and I believe he is the best person to lead our country."

"He has a proven record of national leadership..." Duh...? Shut down the government as House Speaker, convicted by Congressional colleagues of ethics violations, received millions of dollars as a lobbyist, etc. This is national leadership?

Of all the comments here, I think you really nailed it. Disgraceful that anyone would use such a terrible event in US history to try and gain some PR advantage – at best, yet again it shows extremely poor judgement, and at worst, exploitation of the worst kind.
I can see why "she rarely speaks on the record or at campaign events." Apparently, when she does speak, she's forced to lie.

Gingrinch has conducted himself honourably and has not attacked Tomney whatsoever fo being a Moron.
While you are recalling all the lying cheating Democrats don't forget to remember all the lying cheating Republicans that were condemning Clinton for cheating, Newt included among them. Neither side is clean on this issue but to have the nerve to openly condemn someone for something you are also doing is pretty stupid.

JFK’s cheating would not be acceptable in today’s world nor in today’s Democratic party. Newt would not be running against JFK. Rather he would be running against President Obama who life epitomizes family values and whose integrity is unassailable.
Analogs to JFK shows a nostalgic longing for the past.... the days, now long gone, of JFK... an era where women knew their place, where white men ruled, and when corruption in every level of Government knew no bounds.
A man that cheats on his wife, again and again, the one person he should protect above all others, and leaves her and his kids to beg from the local Church, while he spend money lavishly, is a man with zero integrity, a man that would lie and cheat for his own short term fulfillment, a man who would find fertile ground in today’s corrupt Republican party for his self interested political ambitions.
Scary and FAKE. Does not help him what so ever. They deserve each other. But we don't!
