Callista Gingrich makes rare campaign remarks

Decorah, Iowa (CNN) - It was a rare sight, but Callista Gingrich, wife of GOP hopeful Newt Gingrich, stepped in front of the microphone to introduce her "husband and best friend" at a pizzeria Tuesday.

As much as the former House speaker boasts of his wife's involvement in his campaign, she rarely speaks on the record or at campaign events. She is a familiar face on the campaign trail and at book signings, often standing next her husband at the podium, but she rarely takes center stage herself.

Callista Gingrich, who attended Luther College, chose to make the final stop in Tuesday's Iowa campaign swing in the college town to introduce her husband at Mabe's Pizza.

She shared some of her personal history with a packed room in the basement of the legendary pizza restaurant.

"One little known fact is that I actually lived upstairs above Mabe's Pizza as a senior, so Mabe's is very special to me," she said.

She quickly moved on to tout her husband's credentials.

"A lot of people ask me why Newt would be a good president, and I really think that Newt has been preparing for this challenge his entire life," she said in Decorah.

"He has a proven record of national leadership, a thorough understanding of our nation's history and a genuine love for our country, and I believe he is the best person to lead our country."

Wow, the blonde zombie mannequin can actually speak a few words in public. Hopefully, they will have a small room up there over the pizzeria after her hubby loses and divorces here.

If she wants to be first lady, I think she owes it to the American peoplle to explain why she thought it was just fine to fool around with a married man,

Is she made of wax? That smile looks to be from lots of knife-time and chemical work and having a 250,000$ open charge account at Tiffany's. These are terrible, horrible people.

Our current First Lady is ten times more elegant and capable than this stepford wife.

This is the woman he was messing around with while married to wife #2. Why would anyone listen to this bimbo. Unfaithful husbands and home wrecking women seem to be the norm now in the republican party. Sure glad God just forgives them all. I guess if Obama screws up he can ask God to forgive him too. What would the repos say to that?

This, from the exact person responsible for making me have no respect for Newton Gingrich. While Gingrich was leading the prosecution of William J. Clinton for extramarital sex, Callista and Newton were doing the same thing. And neither Gingrich has raised the issue of repaying the American taxpayer for the funds used in the prosecution.

    Hypocrisy is the greatest luxury.

Of course she's gonna say nice things about him; if she doesn't, she'll be bounced for Wife #4!

She knew from the very first time she helped him cheat on his then current wife that she wanted to be the next much younger Mrs. Gingrich. She also hopes that the next souless twenty year old she-creature that is likely to take her place will enjoy the creepy old guy as much as she has, and she looks forward to being tossed aside like those before her.

Can't say much about a woman who would knowing sleep with someone else's husband. I guess they deserve each other.

In another article, Gingrich touts being a "upply-side conservative in the Kemp-Reagan" tradition.

Here's the problem with Newtsie and all the other GOP candidates: Supply-side/trickle-down economics, like all the GOP's policies, are PROVEN FAILURES. They are all stuck on giving more and more money to the wealthy in our country, even as those companies take that cash and invest it overseas, totally abandoning our country and her people.

How could anyone in their right mind vote for one of these GOP yahoos who are so addicted to these failed policies?

Ooh, not sure Calista is "young or pretty enough to be the wife of the president".

I would not be proud to have Gingrich as President. He wasn't fit to be a Speaker of the House, and least of all to be President.

I could not vote for Newt based on how he treated his first two wives, had an affair with wife number three and she was also well aware he was married with children. Morales count. Ethics count. These two things Newt is missing. They are too important to overlook. They are the basis of a man. Newt blew his chance away with help from Callista. This country deserves a first lady with more honor that Callista can bring to the position. Go away, Newt.

Calista, when you introduce Newt next time...please say "my husband for now". Okay?

Why does Mr. Gingrich wear a wig? What does she have to say about her relationship with her husband while he was married. Does she think that is honorable.?

You would think this home wrecking woman would stay in the background. But what the heck, she picked a serial adulterer so the two are a perfect match.

Somebody found the batteries for Newt's Stepford wife.
I wonder when the next mistress-wife model will debut.

Did she by any chance mention Newt's plege of fidelity. I don't really expect her to. After all, when he first dated her, he would have had to stay with his second wife, if fidelity was an issue. Then again he had the exact same problem with his second wife while he was married to his first wife.

Shut up. When you get cancer or old he will dump you for wife number 4. Better save your money because you won't be the last of his wives.

I cant put my finger on it...the over-emphasized smile, the seemingly empty doll-like eyes, or maybe the oddly homicidal undertone to her facial expression...but every time I see a picture of her I cant help but think Stepford Wife...

I don't think he is a good leader. His record on marriage is definitely not a good example or a role model for young people and couples. I WILL NOT VOTE FOR SOMEONE LIKE HIM!

It is a sure sign of desperation when you get your reluctant (on the political stage) wife to barker for you.
