Decorah, Iowa (CNN) - It was a rare sight, but Callista Gingrich, wife of GOP hopeful Newt Gingrich, stepped in front of the microphone to introduce her "husband and best friend" at a pizzeria Tuesday.
As much as the former House speaker boasts of his wife's involvement in his campaign, she rarely speaks on the record or at campaign events. She is a familiar face on the campaign trail and at book signings, often standing next her husband at the podium, but she rarely takes center stage herself.
Callista Gingrich, who attended Luther College, chose to make the final stop in Tuesday's Iowa campaign swing in the college town to introduce her husband at Mabe's Pizza.
She shared some of her personal history with a packed room in the basement of the legendary pizza restaurant.
"One little known fact is that I actually lived upstairs above Mabe's Pizza as a senior, so Mabe's is very special to me," she said.
She quickly moved on to tout her husband's credentials.
"A lot of people ask me why Newt would be a good president, and I really think that Newt has been preparing for this challenge his entire life," she said in Decorah.
"He has a proven record of national leadership, a thorough understanding of our nation's history and a genuine love for our country, and I believe he is the best person to lead our country."

you people are so nasty who comment on cnn articles. You never offer anything positive. What wretched souls.
Everyone talks all the time about His infidelity. let's remember, that game takes two players! she carried on with a married man. probably while condemning Bill Clinton for his dalliances. and rudy, if you are going to vote for a president based on his wife's looks, please do the world a favor and stay home on election day. we've had enough presidents elected for way too stupid reasons, like 'gee, i'd like to sit down and have a beer with him!' that logic put us in the mess Obama's been trying to clean up for the past 3 years. let's vote for capable, compassionate, and intelligent. oh, wait, we already have one like that now, and we fire him at our great peril!!!!!!!!!
Everyone talks about Newt's infidelities and forget "it takes two to tango". Calista is as much at fault for sleeping with him for over 6 years while he was married. As First Lady can you imagine how she would be regarded? She cannot use her religion to negate her moral bancruptcy.

I hope all you haters that are trashing Callisa Gingrich with your disgusting rants aren't too too upset when the next Michelle Obama article comes up....
======================
Shame, shame. Have you never thought back in remembrance of your many past comments, sweet cheeks? Why expect others to be any different than you have been over the years?
She just wants to be the first lady and live like a queen.
He let his trollop speak?
Can you imagine this creature as First Lady? Her example to young women everywhere: Have an affair with a man with a record of infidelity, insist on being lavished with baubles from Tiffany's, and hope to heck no one takes too close a look at your "strategy" for getting ahead.
Newt will never be president, but just the thought of this woman representing our country on the world stage makes me gag.
Is this what we want in a first lady? We can tell our daughters how she slept her way into the white house.
She has gold digger, written right across her face, with her out of style hairdo. She is a dime a dozen, women who steal men from other women........

Callista had an affair with a married man (while that man was attacking President Clinton for marital infidelities), breaking up a marriage.
Not our fault that's an immoral, scumbag thing to do.
I had to click on this article to find out which of the three Mrs. Gingriches they were talking about.

Fair has had a fair share of derisive remarks, especially about Michelle Obama. But, I do not recall any of Fair's remarks attacking Mrs. Obama's looks. If memory serves, Fair has restrained his remarks to Mrs. Obama's alledged words and misdeeds, as reported by Fox News. Isn't that right, Fair?
"She is a familiar face on the campaign trail" - CNN
Aw, that' a cheap shot, CNN. Her face doesn't really look like it's been on the campaign trail. She was just born that way.
Rudy takes a chep shot by saying:
"If memory serves, Fair has restrained his remarks to Mrs. Obama's alledged words and misdeeds, as reported by Fox News. Isn't that right, Fair?"

Stereotype much there. Sparky? Her "words" are out there for everyone who has ears to hear... and I know of none of her "misdeeds".

"steal"??? Neither men nor women are possessions, and neither is their heart. Nobody, including YOU, knows the details of their relationship. You make comments and judgement from the point of complete ignorance.
BTW, love and affection are given, not taken. You cannot "steal" them.
One more thing, Rudy... those who know me on this blog dont use male prepositions when they speak of me. Try to keep up.
"...'get our country back..." Can anyone please explain exactly what that phrase is supposed to mean? That phrase an all of the variations of it like; "...take our country back...", or "retaking", or "restore" and "restoring". Just what exactly is that supposed to mean? I just don't know, but I do know what it sounds like."
I think they mean back to the dark ages.
The epitome of family values the Gingriches are.
NOT!
I wonder if she thinks that its only a matter of time before Newt leaves her for someone else? He is three for three and history often repeats.
She's starting to look a bit old. Time for a trade in.
This woman is not First Lady material.
The former mistresss speaks. How's this for family values?
Does the Catholic church now approve of adultry?
All the GOP/Tea-Potty candidates are pathetic. Come on America...We have better than this, already in the WH. No need to have a walk-through
