Boston Herald backs Romney in 'clown car' field

Davenport, Iowa (CNN) - The Boston Herald endorsed Mitt Romney Tuesday, and called the former Massachusetts governor the stand-out in a Republican "clown car" field.

"It has been an entertaining several months, but really now, does anyone see even the remotest possibility of any of those folks taking the oath of office on the Capitol steps come Jan. 20, 2013?" the editorial said. "There is only one candidate in the Republican field with the integrity, the experience, the organizational strength and the intelligence to beat Barack Obama and that man is Mitt Romney."

Obama, Truman, and the 'Do-Nothing' Congress

Washington (CNN) - Dust off the Truman playbook.

After a year of repeated partisan showdowns between the White House and Capitol Hill, President Barack Obama appears ready to hit the campaign trail in 2012 with congressional Republicans firmly in his sights - a reprise of Harry Truman's 1948 come-from-behind strategy against Tom Dewey and the "do-nothing" 80th Congress.

Romney lowers expectations for Iowa

Moline, Illinois (CNN) - As he prepared to kick off a three-day bus tour through Iowa, Mitt Romney sought to lower expectations in the state where he has played a game of wait-and-see for several months.

"I want to do well in all the states and get a good start, but I really can't set expectations," Romney said at a New Hampshire stop Tuesday morning. "A couple of weeks ago I was a distant third in Iowa and you just don't know what's going to happen in this process."

Romney: Gingrich camp like Lucille Ball

Moline, Illinois (CNN) - Mitt Romney mocked his rival Newt Gingrich Tuesday for failing to qualify for Virginia's primary ballot, and compared the former House speaker's campaign organization to an episode of the comedy sitcom "I Love Lucy."

"I think he compared that to Pearl Harbor," Romney said of the Gingrich campaign's failure to get on the Virginia ballot, which the former speaker's adviser called a "set-back."

Gingrich and Romney's health care volley

(CNN) - The Newt Gingrich campaign pushed back Tuesday on reports the former House speaker previously expressed enthusiasm for rival Mitt Romney's Massachusetts health care law–before eventually announcing his opposition.

Team Gingrich continued to contrast the candidate's record with that of Romney in its response to reports of a 2006 newsletter showing Gingrich's support for Romney's health care law, which included an individual mandate.
