Occupy vs. Ron Paul

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) - Five members of the Occupy the Caucus movement in Des Moines Iowa were arrested this morning while blockading the entrance to Ron Paul's campaign headquarters.

Using their iconic mic-check speaking style, the protestors spoke out against Ron Paul's campaign pledge to close the Environmental Protection Agency if elected.

Sitting arm in arm, the members of the Occupy movement chanted; "We are fighting for the future generations. In order to live we need clean air, clean water, and safe food. Don't dismantle the EPA. We won't allow this business to open before our demands are met."

Police gave the protestors the opportunity to move from the private entrance to the public sidewalk twenty feet away. Some complied, but five refused to move and were arrested.

Many of the occupy demonstrators claimed sympathy, if not outright support for the ideology of Ron Paul, which made this protest especially uncomfortable for both the occupiers and the campaign.

One of the arrested protester's named Clark Davidson claimed to be a Ron Paul precinct captain as he was led away in handcuffs.

"I don't believe with Ron Paul on every single issue...I came to stand with my sisters. I came to address that with the campaign and I just got arrested," Davidson said.

No one from the Paul Campaign was immediately available for comment.

@ thomas mc, You are a slanderous child. But then again the CNN comment boards aren't exactly a shining example of brilliant discussion. That said, please try to keep name calling and race baiting out of this.

i think what Ron Paul meant to say is that the enviromental protection agency is another paid off donothing arm of our corrupt government and we need an agency that actually protects the environment EHH !

Occupy is a complete waste – they protest for and against almost everything. Funny thing is they seem to be targeting primarily conservative locations while ignoring the liberal organizations that gave us the Wall St. bailouts. Must be those expensive college educations that make them think in funny ways. I'm waiting for one of these idiots to trespass in a business where the owner exercises his/her 2nd Amendment rights – nothing like a limp to make you a participating citizen vs. a dirty protester.

So many hate Ron Paul because they fear if it weren't for the Federal government controlling every macro and micro aspect of their lives, they would have to get involved in matters effecting them, or worse yet think for themselves.

The EPA is a big part of this countries problems, such as the oil pipeline from Canada. We need that oil to stay independent from the rest of the world. The EPA has already chased the big companies to China etc.Maybe we should send the EPA to China to clean up their air and the companies will move back here.Is the EPA communist?Maybe.Jim Thomas Phoenix,Az.

"The Occupiers want government to provide everything for everyone I think."

Yeah, the "I think" part is where you got tripped up. OWS does not want what you claim. What it does want is policies that do not favor the greedy over the needy. OWS wants to reduce the ever-increasing divide between the wealth of the 1% and the rest of us, a divide that keeps growing because the 1% has corrupted our government and economy. OWS wants to reduce that corruption with stronger enforcement of the laws and by getting corporate and union money out of politics. It's really not that difficult to learn these things, so you clearly have chosen deliberately to remain ignorant while spouting your Fakes News talking points propaganda.

Oh Eddie, get a grip. Did you bother to read the article? They were trespassing on private property and arrested only when they refused to move to the public way. The real joke is clowns like these that think they can just do whatever they want, whereever they want under the guise of "freedom of speech". Well gues what, WE ALMOST HAVE RIGHTS and these clowns are infringing on those rights and deserve to be arrested.

Ron Paul's attempt to distance himself from the content of his newsletter is belied by his own photo-ops; there is not a minority within 100 yards of him in the photos and videos. Is this some new kind of 'Southern Strategy'? And what about Rand Paul and his barely concealed racist following? No one is fooled by Ron Paul efforts to deny who he really is; no way 'The Little Corporal' is sneaking into the white house, we are paying attention. This is not 1933 Germany.

You anti-EPA folks are out of your minds. If you want to get worked up over a government agency not doing its job and harming the country, focus on agencies like the Dept. of Treasury or the SEC. And if you really have no need for clean air and water, I suggest you all move to China, where I'm sure you'll be quite happy.

Anyone that has ever taken a contract from the EPA will tell you that they are an extremely inefficient agency and waste HUGE amounts of tax dollars. I speak from personal experience... working on multiple EPA super fund projects. It's really sad actually. Those people occupying Ron Paul's headquarters need to dig a little deeper and do some research instead of simply reading the headlines. GET RID OF THE EPA. IT IS A JOKE. Find a better solution

The EPA doesn't regulate oil wells. I believe that falls under the Department of Energy. The EPA doesn't regulate bridges and highways once they are built. I believe that falls under the Department of Transportation. I believe that you have no idea of which you speak. I believe that you are merely parroting what you hear in conservative media.

"Who would pay to publish and mail a news letter, in his own name, for a decade and a half, without ever even READING one of them"
Probably nobody. I don't see how that has anything to do with Ron Paul's letters though. They started in 1987 , heavily based on investing and gold standard. 5 years after that a handful of idiotic comments show up, then nothing for another several years then a handful of incendiary comments again.
I think better question to ask is "Who would read every single newsletter in detail, while working fulltime as a doctor, 5 years after these newsletters have established a solid base, reputation and a good source of income and everything's been going well" I think the answer is again – probably nobody. If anyone needs to be questioned that's Lew Rockwell who was the editor during those years – as an editor he definitely should have read everything as that was his actual responsibilty.

I agree with the comments that suggest Liberals don't understand the nation is broke.

America is broke. Period. Bring 'em home, reign in The Fed, reign in the debt.

These endless budget spending emasures are going to bring even the poor down to teh ground.

Occupy Attacking the one guy who actually relates THE MOST with Ron Paul is just pathetic. He's against SOPA, NDAA, Wars, Bailouts, The Fed handing out money to Big Banks... I mean, this is just flat stupid.

When will people realize that Ron Paul is not your average republican? He most likely voted against everything that people hate republicans for. He voted against all the wars, the patriot act, and the bank bailouts and has spoken out against the federal reserve system for years. So why are those on the left and OWS so quick to criticize him? It's because they aren't informed, and look at all republicans as the same. The truth is has a better record than even Obama when it comes to the issues that the republicans get the most hate for, even Obama voted for the Patriot act and reinstated it as president, he also voted for and pushed for all the bailouts that all the OWS protestors are so upset about.

It is a fact that Obama is bought and paid for by Wall Street, he has received more money than all of the GOP candidates combined, because he's a better salesman. You wonder why he voted for the bailouts and why he pushed them so hard? The media is bought and paid for by the same corporations that corrupt our government.

Ron Paul should be a friend of the Occupy Movement, not a foe.

These people (OWS) make the same mistake as most Americans. They assume a government agency actually does what it claims. In fact, government agencies do the opposite. Department of Education fosters miseducation. Department of Homeland Security fosters insecrity. Department of Defense fosters Attacks. The EPA fosters pollution. The FED fosters economic instability. Wake up people, you are being lied to, especially when it comes to Ron Paul. He stands for peace, liberty and life. RON PAUL 2012

Let them protest, it's their right. Violate property rights and you get arrested. Simple.

Now she has a good story to tell her grand daughter someday, "I handcuffed myself to the bad man's building and wouldn't let go until he let a bloated government bureaucracy live in peace! The ironic thing is, the bad man I was protesting against ended up being right about everything! And that is why you will now be executed by firing squad for writing a blog that criticized the government. I love you and I'm sooooo proud of you! Long live Obama. Obama loves you."
