Professor questions Iowa's place in elections, creates a stir

(CNN) – While the visiting national news media focuses on the latest utterances of Republican presidential hopefuls in advance of the January 3 caucuses, many Iowans have found a bone to pick with a journalism professor - from the University of Iowa, no less - who wrote:

"Whether a schizophrenic, economically depressed, and some say, culturally challenged state like Iowa should host the first grassroots referendum to determine who will be the next president isn't at issue. ... In a perfect world, no way would Iowa ever be considered representative of America, or even a small part of it. Iowa's not representative of much."

I must admit, he came down pretty hard on Iowans. But, he couldn't criticize the vittles.

The ONLY time Iowa "picked a winner" was GWB in 2000. And we all know how that worked out. Except for that one election Iowa has NEVER picked the winner. That is one lousy record.

A rather harsh critique of my sister state, wouldn't you say? Iowans are who they are, and darn proud of it, too.

I'll bet you can't find any proof that supports your statement either. You often talk about Republicans as being liars – so I guess this puts you on the same level as them.

The professor is of course absolutely right. Nobody really gives a hoot about Iowa.
