Obama to name Cordray as consumer bureau chief

(CNN) - In a move that has angered Republicans, President Obama is expected on Wednesday to make a recess appointment of Richard Cordray to be the first director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, sidestepping the Senate confirmation process, a senior administration official tells CNN.

The president is expected to make the official announcement at a 1:15 p.m. ET speech in Ohio, where Cordray served as attorney general.

The Republicans are the party of No? Are we still using that talking point liberals? From 2009 through the end of 2010, the dems controlled the WH, a majority in the House, and a super majority (filibuster proof) in the Senate! Since 2011, the House has been controlled by the Repubs which gives them control over 1/2 of 1/3 of the government.

They are the minority and the opposition party. They are SUPPOSED to push back against the sitting President and party in power as their ideology is opposed to the party in power (what do you think the Dems did before 2006). The Dems in control got everything they wanted in the first two years and have done squat since. That is an indication as to their ability to compromise right? As soon as the Repubs gain some power, we hear constant whining from liberals about the party of no!

    Grow up you babies.

  3. Obama's Soliciter General says this is illegal

In the case "New Process Steel vs. NLRB." They acknowledged that the Senate has to be in recess for at least 3 days to be able to get a recess appointment through. The Senate is meeting every other day right now, and hence not in recess. If this isn't overreach and rule by fiat, what is? This administration seems to argue left, right, and center that the ends justify the means. The problem is, "the means" equates directly to the rule of law. By ignoring the rule of law in favor of dictatorial fiat, this administration continues to raise the spectre of the destruction of the Republic.

It is truly about time! This is simply too imprtant an agency to be held still by some mindless Republics!

How about 20 or 30 more recess appointments... we really need them too!

Take the gloves off; no one in the GOP/TP is going to work with you: when you speak, they only know the word NO!

Again Obama just goes around the laws he swore to uphold what a slug.

While you are at it why don't you just appoint about 100 Czars too.

Under your lack of leadership the Government continues to grow while you and your party spend money you don't have.

Before it's all over you will make this just another third world country.

Good, even though Elisabeth Warren would have been better. Then again, she will soon be a senator.
Congratulations on the continuous clown show in the GOP. They have not reached the bottom yet, but they are
    surely working hard on it.

    Fair is Fair

While technically OK to do so, Obama sets a dangerous precedent on executive branch powers by taking this tack. This is NOT a simple"recess appointment" like some of you posters are saying (congress is technically not in recess). So go ahead and do it, Obama... just don't go crying in your beer when you get hit wth procedural tactics in return, K?
Really Fair? The President is setting a "dangerous" precedent because Congress is "technically" not in recess? Are you kidding me? Their are two truths to this matter (1) The President has NOT committed a misstep technically. He is well within his rights as President in this confirmation, and (2) congress has been in "recess" since 2010.
Wishful thinking on your part Fair is Fair, but that is all it is, 'k?

You liberal tards are MISSING THE POINT. The Senate is not in recess. Next Obummie will appoint people at 2AM. He will say you are on recess so I can do what I want. Obummie has broken 100's of years of precedence and we aginst the advice of his own Soliciter General said it was illegal.

So the Rethuglkkklans rigged the Pro Forma Congress to block recess appointments, refused to bring other candidates for appointment to the floor for a vote and now are bellowing like the rotten morons they truly are, that Obama is somehow hurting the country. McConnell is the biggest threat to America and her citizens. He has clearly shown himself for the traitor that he is because he has perpetrated the biggest fraud on the country by doing everything in his power to destroy our country. What a disgrace he is and what a disgrace his party of illiterate, racist, unpatriotic dimwits they truly are. President Obama stands head and shoulders above these obstructionist self-serving bums. The teabagging clown show continues to demonstrate just how much they hate our country and its citizens.

Do you right-wing idiots even know what the word "socialism" means? Of course not, you're too insanely ignorant to know. All you morons do is parrot talking points and soundbites from Cluster Fox News. And you wonder why you and your party is so hated?

Obama's Soliciter General says this is illegal....your hate becomes you. You hate Obama so bad that you will overlook the benefits this new agency will bring you as a consumer. The courts will decide whether or not this action is legal or illegal but for you to defend the Republicans who are defending the banks who want to cheat Am. Consumers like yourself, dude you must not only hate Obama, but you must really hate being you.

"Remember loons: What goes around comes around."

Apparently you forgot from 2000-2008. Watch what happens when the gloves come off after he's re-elected. Just watch. I'm anxiously awaiting the GOP/Teatroll nutty reaching ever new depths of insanity come 2013.

"From 2009 through the end of 2010, the dems controlled the WH, a majority in the House, and a super majority (filibuster proof) in the Senate!"

100% wrong. Scott Brown broke that in very early 2010.

"what do you think the Dems did before 2006"

What did the Dems do? Watched in horror as the GOP used every single procedural trick in the book, including scheduling 2 a.m. votes, shutting Dems out of conferences (even physically shutting them out of rooms) and RECONCILIATION (you know, that procedural device that get the GOP/Teatrolls tearingtheir hair out whenever the Dems say they might use it, but which the GOP used like it was going out of style) to pass whatever the heck they wanted...including the Bush tax cuts, which were widely opposed and were clearly and accurately predicted to massively inflate the deficits and debt.

"From 2009 through the end of 2010, the dems controlled the WH, a majority in the House, and a super majority (filibuster proof) in the Senate! "

You deathcult hatemonkeys keep posting this blatantly false rubbish, knowing full well you're spreading garbage (or at least you should know). For those who follow political history, we are aware of small things like the death of Ted Kennedy and the GOBP's obstruction of Franken's appointment. In fact, the Dems had a filibuster-proof Senate for all of a few months, and they weren't all consecutive months either. It's amazing how many gullible people swallow this lame deathcult propaganda without investigating the true facts.

"While technically OK to do so, Obama sets a dangerous precedent on executive branch powers by taking this tack"

And Senate GOPers/Teatrolls haven't already set dangerous precedent by abusing the confirmation process not as an attack on the merits of particular nominees, but as a means of holding hostage existing legislation that has passed botht he House and Senate and been signed into law by the POTUS in an effort to thwart what is now the law of the land and demand that it be changed drastically before they will obey it and allow it to be implemented as written? The fact is, the GOP/Teatrolls have gone on a kidnappping spree. The Consumer bureau is the law of the land. The House passed it. The Senate passed it. The POTUS signed it. The Senate's job is to assess the merits of the nominees, not prevent any votes on nominees as a means of preventing the law of the land from being implemented just because they lost the votes that passed it. They are essentially breaking the law by breaking the Consumer bureau by playing these games. Anyone who thinks this is Obama picking a fight missed the GOP/Teatrolls throwing their drinks in his face first.

"Obama knows that he can't do this legally. The Senate isn"t in recess."

Actually, there is good legal argument that he probably wins this battle. Besides, it's win-win anyway. Either his apointment stands or it doesn't. In the meantime, the GOP/Teatrolls go on a rampage displaying for the country just how hard and crazy they will fight to protect the 1%, even when it screws the rest of us. The corner he's encouraged the GOP/Teatrolls to paint themselves into on so many issues...glorious. Have fun fighting for the 1% and arguing for their tax cuts (that don't need offsets) whle arguing against payroll tax cuts for the rest of us (that for some reason do need offsets) etc. You think Mittens and his 5%+/- effective tax rate (or refusal to release any tax records) are going to look fancy shmancy to the voting public with that backdrop? HAHAHAHAHAHA....

  25. VA VERY Ex Republican

OK, as an ex republican, there is nothing any democrat can say that will convenice the clowns (My Ex Party and the Tea baggers) that they are killing and destroying America. So the focus should be on the independants (Like me) coservatives and liberal independants al ike. they are the majority and the are the ones who can swing any election. the indepejdants knew they made a mistake when current congress was elected and any democrat with half a brain should work from now on independants to re elect Obama. The future is in the hands of independants re-electing Obama. this man is brilliant.
