Hollis, New Hampshire (CNN) - Long-standing evangelical leader Gary Bauer is set to endorse Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum, according to a campaign source.
Bauer, current chairman of the Campaign for Working Families and a 2000 Republican presidential candidate, will formally declare his support for Santorum during a campaign stop in South Carolina on Sunday.

"While we have many fine candidates in the competition I believe Senator Santorum best personifies the Reagan-inspired conservatism that unites the GOP," Bauer will say Sunday, according to prepared remarks provided by a campaign source.
Bauer's endorsement comes as Santorum canvasses New Hampshire, declaring himself a "real Reagan Republican" ahead of the Granite State's first-in-the-nation primary on Tuesday.
Like Bauer, Santorum is an unapologetic social conservative who frequently talks about family values and his anti-abortion views.
Bauer will praise the former senator's "commitment to defending America's families and defending the sanctity of life," calling Santorum's ideas "the blueprint to put America back on the right track."
During the 2008 presidential cycle, he threw his support behind Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona.
– CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley contributed to this report.

Evangical this, evangical that – blah blah blah blah
They sure like to push their religions down our throats. I though our ancestors left England hundreds of years ago to escape just this sort of dictatorship/theocratic dictatorship.
NO - I'm free and I intend to stay that way – my religion is mine - you keep yours, I don't care what it is. I keep mine.
If ANYTHING, maybe they should shove MY religion down YOuR throat - how does THAT sound?
Great minds think a like. HAHAHAHAHA
it is good he has only one vote
The so called Evangelical Christian leaders do not speak for this Evangelical Christian. My endorsement goes to President Barak Obama as the one candidate whose policies and values more reflect the actual teachings of Jesus Christ as stated in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. I don't know how anyone who follows the teachings of Christ votes for any of this current crop of GOP candidates.
seems like ALL these religious right men have that same look on their face...SCARY!
It appears that this Preacher Gary Bauer doesn't believe in the 6th Commandment, either. These right-wing evangelical preachers have as much hate in them as some of the Muslim clerics!
Thank you Gary Bauer. Now more than ever I will be glad to see President Obama relected. You and Santorum are two peas in a pod.
Like I needed another reason not to vote for Santorum.
All these repub. canidates have such a God fobia how can they be comander-in-chief? They will have to order our troops to kill (The bible says thou shall not kill). Thy shall not bear false witness (the lies they tell ) Jesus says money is the root of all evil! So they only believe in the bible when it suits them
These Christian Right people scare the hell out of me. Why do they want a theocracy ?! There should be no establishment of a church government. Anyone you would vote for these people are nuts. And then there is Romney who follows a cult. How scary are these people. Romney probably wants to move the Us capital ro Navoo, Missouri.
As a fellow Evangelical Christian, I can tell you that if Bauer was a true head of a group called "Campaign for Working Families", his conscience and convictions would cause him to endorse the only candidate that is pro-worker, President Obama. Instead, his "Campaign for Working Families" is just another front for an anti-worker, pro-big business group. I find nothing in God's Word that supports the majority of the real republican agenda. Outside of their LIP SERVICE to Christian objectives of pro-life, and marriage, their real agenda is the wealthy and big business, who own them.
It would be immensely gratifying if all these religious nuts would get together and go re-establish Jonestown–and then let history repeat itself.
If a preacher endorses a candidate, take away the church's tax exempt status. You do NOT preach politics from the pulpit. America does NOT need a religious zealot in any office.
Most people never heard of this ultra right winger. Who cares about his choice for anything?
A Reagan conservative? Reagan honored the SS butchers that murdered Americans and traded arms and cahs for hostages.
What a shock, one hate filled bigot, likes another hate filled bigot
Every time I hear of an endorsement I ask myself, "Okay, now who is these people that are endorsing these candidates?" I quickly come to my senses and say, "NOBODY!" They are all right-wing evangelical people who think they are Holier than Thou and it does not matter who they endorse because the candidates are out there also!! This country is NOT far-RIGHT!!!
Obama 2012
All the evangelical leaders in the U.S. can endorse Santorum but he will never be elected President. His views are way to extreme
This guy Bauer is going to take the corrupt Catholic since there are no phony Baptists, Methodists or Presbyterians around. Of course they will reject Romney, a Mormon. That is why he has never been the one hypocritical religious conservatives would support. Who cares though? The two top republicans are both very dirty with lots of baggage to exam.
Rick Santorum, God is laughing and frowning at you. Using God's name in vain at your every disposal while bearing false witness against God's appointed leader, for your own selfish agenda (Romans 13:1 in the KJV says: Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God) Even David respected God's appointed . . . David tells King Saul the reason that he could not lift up his hand against the king saying, ‘I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD’S anointed. 1 Samuel ’24:8-15. Rick Santorum, A pseudo Christian along with the whole conservative right . . . the so called evangelicals and the bible gate, all are laughable and will be judge the most extreme by God . . . Period.
Why don't these theologists stay out of politics and endorse a fence post? Most Americans don't let some religious nut telling them what to do expecially because most of these nut jobs fail to live by their preachings.
Wow. Big Surprise.
Who cares....evangelicals are useless.
Time to take away all tax breaks for this church. Get involved in the political process, you no longer need to have your non taxable status.
Who the hell cares?
