(CNN) – Newt Gingrich announced Monday he received the backing of Todd Palin, husband of former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
At an early afternoon Rotary Club meeting in Nashua, New Hampshire, Gingrich said he just learned of the developments.

"About 20 minutes ago I got a very nice phone call from Todd Palin, Sarah's husband, and he indicated he was going to endorse me today," Gingrich said.
The 2012 GOP hopeful later sent out a message on his Twitter account, saying, "Honored to be endorsed by Todd Palin. President Obama has failed. We need a Bold Reagan Conservative in the WH."
Gingrich's message linked to an article on the website of ABC News, which first reported Todd Palin's endorsement.
In a statement released by Gingrich's campaign, Palin touted the candidate's leadership skills.
"Newt Gingrich is a true leader, which he has proven not only since the beginning of his campaign, but throughout his career," Palin wrote. "Just like Sarah, Newt has faced many successes and challenges. Despite his consultants leaving him last summer, Newt is still standing because of his ideas and his success in the debates – not by spending millions of dollars in campaign ads."
Todd Palin, often referred to as the "First Dude" by his wife when she was serving as Alaska's governor, has long served as one of Sarah Palin's closest political advisers.
Sarah Palin has yet to publicly endorse a candidate.

Aw, the Palins still think they matter. How cute.
Let's see, who would give a rats behind that they were endorsed by a nobody? Todd Palin, come on. He has no political power, no followers except some wolves trying to stay out of him and Sarah's way. What a worthless endorsement, not that most of them mean anything anyway. What a waste of story space.
Wow! Romney wins Christine O'Donnell, and Newt wins Todd Palin! Who wins? the rest of the GOP field!
It was so nice when she and her circus sideshow family were gone ...
An endorsement from a person who wants to secede from the union is not one I'd be honored to accept.
Wow, now there's something to proud of, endorsed by Todd Palin, husband of half Gov. Palin....NOT. I can't believe that the Newtster is telling people about this non-issue from a nobody.
@Jake – Wrong – The Democrats win.
I'm still pondering my endorsement and will announce it in the near future. I've already ruled out Mr. Hopey-Changey. No jobs, no change, no hope, no endorsement.
Woo hoo! Gingrich has locked up the mimbo vote for sure with this endorsement.
Go Todd/Sarah go! Show people that you have power! Show them you are true conservatives and you stand tall on what you believe, no matter what!
Wow they had to stick their noise into the news again.
I don't think it really matters who Tod Palin endorses. Just being realistic.
This is the guy who belonged to a group that wanted to get Alaska to break off from America and become its own nation, how extremely patriotic.
Spare me, please. I'm referring to the Palin's and their never ending drama.
He has my sympathy.
This is as good as I endorse Rick Perry.............ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!.................
Good to see Todd Palin is getting back out there in the public. Most guys would never show their faces again after the whole world learned his wife hooked up with an NBA star just before they married. But Todd ain't like that.
Todd Palin, one of Sarah's closest political advisers. Well that worked well last time, didn't it? Wounder who Sarah will give the kiss of death too this time.
Well, that just sealed the deal for me – if Tawd thinks Newty is the bees' knees, then I'm a voting for him!
Um, no, not really....
Romney gets Christie, Haley, and McCain, and Gingrich gets Palin, Todd that is. Gingrich is a loser.
My dog endorsed the Newt yesterday. But then my dog is a corrupt womanizer.
@GI Joe, you are 100000000 percent right. Two cats fight-dog wins the bread....ha..ha...ha...
This means as much as my husband enodorsing me. What a laugh.
WOOHOO, HOW TODD CAN BRING VOTES TO NEWT THE NUTS CAMPAIGN! I have been so glad not to see or hear the Palin's in the media, but noo, CNN YOU JUST CAN'T HELP YOURSELF. PLEASE ASK YOURSELVES WHAT IS RELEVENCE HERE, the Palin's really don't matter and no one cares about their endorsement, just like The bruth & Nothing But, who cares who he is endorsing.
