(CNN) – Newt Gingrich announced Monday he received the backing of Todd Palin, husband of former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
At an early afternoon Rotary Club meeting in Nashua, New Hampshire, Gingrich said he just learned of the developments.

"About 20 minutes ago I got a very nice phone call from Todd Palin, Sarah's husband, and he indicated he was going to endorse me today," Gingrich said.
The 2012 GOP hopeful later sent out a message on his Twitter account, saying, "Honored to be endorsed by Todd Palin. President Obama has failed. We need a Bold Reagan Conservative in the WH."
Gingrich's message linked to an article on the website of ABC News, which first reported Todd Palin's endorsement.
In a statement released by Gingrich's campaign, Palin touted the candidate's leadership skills.
"Newt Gingrich is a true leader, which he has proven not only since the beginning of his campaign, but throughout his career," Palin wrote. "Just like Sarah, Newt has faced many successes and challenges. Despite his consultants leaving him last summer, Newt is still standing because of his ideas and his success in the debates – not by spending millions of dollars in campaign ads."
Todd Palin, often referred to as the "First Dude" by his wife when she was serving as Alaska's governor, has long served as one of Sarah Palin's closest political advisers.
Sarah Palin has yet to publicly endorse a candidate.

you have to love this. Dumb endorsing dumber. LOL < LOL < what a joke , I wonder who the old bag will endorse
Well that should be enough to convince people he ISN'T the guy for the job~!!:)
Seriously a little stint as a governor and a even lesser stint as the husband of one.. Doesn't make these two credible. She totally obliterated her one in a billion app. to run as vice president. It was a mistake.. Probably the worst mistake McCain will ever feel he made..
She is a flash in the pan.. A one shot wonder.
She had the brass ring for a instant.. All she had to do was deserve it..
She couldn't do it..
Proof that some people come off in an instant as "wow" then when the mouth opens it's really a "dud"..
Lots of people know how to walk into a room and wow others in an instant.. But cant maintain that first impression.
here you have it, with Sarah Palin..
Time to let it go... Just let it go..
Take the ice aguer and go sit in your little hut and go quietly back into the tundra..
Like many of the Sarah endorsements in the last election, I'm sure that the First Dude and Newt have never met, much less substantially enough to know his policies, philosophies etc.... he's just getting on the band wagon – maybe he thinks Newt will become the nominee (not) and then he'll chose Sarah as a running mate... god help us all.
Gingrich is the master of tweets.
"Honored to be endorsed by Todd Palin." Really? Joe the Plumber, maybe. But Todd?
"President Obama has failed." Obviously no one expected Todd to endorse Obama. Sarah would have done her Bobbitt impersonation on Todd.
" We need a Bold Reagan Conservative in the WH." Maybe we do, Newt, but that is not you!
Todd Palin, with no political experience, no college education, and no political credentials of any kind beyond being married to a clueless political celebrity has endorsed a candidate, and people are supposed to care? Too funny.
So gingrich has the backing of some guy that likes to snowmobile?
Thats... nice?
@NoGr8rH8r...actually Snookie's endorsment would carry more weight...let's face it...she's HOT
So what. Who's Todd Palin? The guy who hates America so much he joined a group of people that want to remove Alaska from America and make it a separate country, that's who. And Sarah, well, we know her right? When the going gets tough, the so called tough quits their jobs. She's making too much money being a sell out now anyway. An endorsement from either one of them isn't work the sticky note the information was delivered on.
wow, a snow machine jockey's endorsement rates? stay tuned, folks, i will give mine pretty soon. btw, funny how sarah has been quiet as of late...lol.
give me a break, this p o s has not one brain cell, why is this even news? Oh right IT ISN"T. its reporting from the sewer, get a real job is a stinking pile of carp.
Who cares? This is really over the top that this is even considered news,. His wife is a quitter and he is a nobody!
bubbles, she is not a quitter. she has never quit being an embarrassment.
And we give a damn about who he endorses WHY? I could not care less who he or that bimbo of a wife of his endorse. Glad it is the "Grinch" and not some credible candidate.
Maybe I missed the announcement, but I was wondering who Janet Huckabee, Cindy McCain, Judith Giuliani and Jeri Thompson eache endorsed. This is the irrelivant 2008 candidate's spouse endorsment list, right? Certainly, their opinion matters too.
Newt and Todd both think Alaska should secede? Both of them hate America?
Psst...Newt...I think I'd keep this one quiet if I were you.....endorsed by a Secessionist......not something to be proud of.....especially coming from a Palin
Oh...this is so funny...HaHaHaHa! Lmao
I was told a GIZZLY BEAR ate these people. Go back to your cave
Seriously, todd palin's endorsement gets coverage on CNN. This provides insight on who might have actually been our VP if McCain had actually won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Must every member of the Palin family seek out publicity like this? And yet if anyone is critical of them, it's all "Leave the family out of it!" They are seeking public attention themselves. That makes them fair game for public criticism.
Why doesn't he run for president?? With Bachman and Cain gone there's extra room in the clown car now.
Wow I would have thought he would endorse Rick Perry seeing as how they both wanted their states to secede from the Union.
This would be funny if it weren't so terribly pathetic. Newt actually thinks this helps?
I am shocked at this one. After all, as a secessionist, shouldn't Todd have back the other secessionist (Perry) in the race? Instead he is backing the serial adulterer! Is this to send a less than subtle message to his wife, "The-Former-Governor-of-Alaska-Who-Quit-Before-Her-Term-Expired-So-She-Could-Make-More-Money-as-a-Fox-News-Commentator"?
Well, there you go! Newt has it all wrapped up (snark). As I recall, Toad endorsed Snowbilly Snooki, too. Look how that worked out for them.
