Washington (CNN) – Mitt Romney is all tied up with President Barack Obama in a likely general election matchup, with the president showing signs of weakness on the economy and Romney seen as out of touch with ordinary Americans, according to a new national survey.
And a CNN/ORC International Poll released Monday also indicates that Rep. Ron Paul of Texas is also even with Obama in another possible showdown this November. The survey also suggests the Republican advantage on voter enthusiasm is eroding, which could be crucial in a close contest.

According to the survey, if the November election were held today and Romney were the Republican presidential nominee, 48% say they'd vote for the former Massachusetts governor, with 47% supporting the president. Romney's one point margin is well within the poll's sampling error.
The poll also indicates Paul statistically tied with Obama, with the president at 48% and the longtime congressman at 46%. But according to the poll, the president is doing better against two other Republican presidential candidates. If Rick Santorum were the GOP nominee, Obama would hold a 51%-45% advantage over the former senator from Pennsylvania. And if Newt Gingrich faced off against the president, Obama would lead the former House speaker 52%-43%.
Enthusiasm in voting in the presidential election this November now stands at 54% among registered Republicans, down ten points from last October. Meanwhile, enthusiasm among registered Democrats has risen six points, and now stands at 49%.
"In a race that tight, turnout is likely to determine the outcome, and the Democrats have begun to close the 'enthusiasm gap' that damaged their prospects so badly in the 2010 midterms," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.
While the Obama re-election campaign and the Democratic National Committee have all of the GOP White House hopefuls in their sights, they are directing most of their firepower towards Romney, and the poll indicates why that is the case.
According to the survey, both men are seen as strong leaders, and both are viewed as having the personal qualities that a president should have. Forty-eight percent of Americans say that Obama agrees with them on the issues they care about - not great, but better than the 43% who feel that way about Romney.
"But on the economy - issue number one to most Americans - Romney has a clear advantage. 53% say the former Massachusetts governor can get the economy moving; only 40% say that about President Barack Obama," says Holland. "But the numbers are reversed when voters are asked whether the candidates are in touch with ordinary Americans. Fifty-three percent say that Obama is in touch; only four in ten feel that way about Romney."
Obama and Romney are virtually tied on whether they are seen as strong and decisive leaders. The survey indicates that by a 61%-34% margin, Americans say Romney changes his position on the issues for political reasons. By a 56%-42% margin, the public feels the same way about the president.
The poll was conducted for CNN by ORC International from January 11-12, with 1,021 adult Americans, including 928 registered voters, conducted by telephone on January 11-12, 2012. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

They won't be tied after the first time they're on stage together.
Vote for Mitt Romney!!
Fifty-three percent say that Obama is in touch; only four in ten feel that way about Romney.

When it comes to middle class Americans and the poor, the President is very much in touch. Someone who makes $10,000 bets while people are suffering and looking for work is way out of touch if you ask me. The economy may be issue #1 to most, but I still like to feel safe. And this President has done just that.
There was a lot of capital put into that Solyndra plant...
A real capitalist would see this as a test of the U.S. system against the Chinese government backed silicon companies, and our own oil and natural gas companies...
T Boone Pickens and old oil man wants billions from the government and has a interesting plan, and if approved will make a lot of money with our tax dollars...
Our oil companies buy a land or off shore oil lease and then own the oil they find...on our land or within our water rights...like it's our land and our water rights regions....We could pay a company to find that oil, refine it, and we would own the oil.....
I don't know why we don't get back in the game with Solyndra and make it work...some call this propping up a failed business design/plan.....I just say we are working out the problems looking for the right solution...just like NASA did when we staked a goal to go to the moon...we made mistakes..and learned from them...
We could make pure hydrogen from our wind and solar farms..store it for later use...pipe it, mix with the CO2 from our coal and natural gas power plants and make methane gas, natural gas is 90% methane gas....and we can grow Algae...green oil make our own oil.. or we can listen to the big oil companies and wage wars and someday run out...
Huh? I thought Ron Paul was unelectable?
Considering the millions of dollars in free debate coverage and the millions of dollars spent on half-truth or lying ads against Obama by PACs, plus no Congress to work with, Obama is in a great position for re-election. All the free studff will end soon and the DNC will really launch their campaign to tell the truth about the truly amazinmg accomplishments Obama has made against hige odds.
If Romney is the GOP nominee I will vote Obama. If Paul is the GOP I will seriously consider my vote for him. I cannot vote Romney as he is nothing more than a return to old tired GOP GW Bush policies. The same policies that got America in the mess she is in. Paul is not a return to those same policies so I will consider him.
We are a stupid, stupid nation.
This is hysterical. 1021 people were polled – about as many people in the average parking lot.
Outstanding.
There is no difference between Obama and Romney. Vote for either.
Both Romney and Obama want to continue the wars in Afghanistan and elsewhere overseas, they each favored the bail-outs, both are pro-gun control, and neither is really serious about a meaningful reduction in taxes or the size of government.
The only difference I see is that Obama has been relatively consistent in his abortion policies; I am not sure where Romney stands this evening on the issue of abortion.
It has to be Ron Paul.
Its looking more and more like Ron Paul is the guy to back in this thing. Every day Ron Paul shows more strength in numbers and more peole are seeing that he is the only choice for our new leader.
well it should be interesting, to say the least.
dream on. Obama will cream either of these guys.
And just think, the President hasn't even begun to campaign yet.
.
Oh hell, mitten is tied up with the president. I wonder when he keeps up the trickle down repubs tradition of the past 30 years, giving to the rich and have the middle class foot the bill. I wonder how long the American people will agree with the truckle down policies that have brought America to her knees.
Go Obama or Ron Paul! Woot Woot!
Obama needs to dump Biden and add Hillary Clinton as his VP running mate!!!
"But on the economy – issue number one to most Americans – Romney has a clear advantage. 53% say the former Massachusetts governor can get the economy moving; only 40% say that about President Barack Obama," says Holland.
=======================================================================================
Yes, the American people HAVE been paying attention. In November, Obama will be FIRED for failing to perform with regards to our economy. Had he told us in 2008 he was a socialist, he never would have been elected.
And the fact that even Ron Paul is tied statistically with Obama is quite amazing. Yes libtards, Obummie is in deep doo-doo. Can you say Adios Obamos??!! Yes,I know you can...
Mr. President, as a conservative independent with very conservative moral views who happens to support you endlesly, I am asking you to kindly find a way not to run in 2012. I am so serious and it is not a joke. This country does not deserve you. they deseve an ignorant GOP who will send the country down the drain, eleminate middle class, makes inflation go through the roof, send unempolyment numbers to record high. you are trying to lead a nation that 38% of it like to stay dumb and find it difficult to think on their own therefore they follow the GOP to think for them. a nation that can be bought for $2000 in a shameful tax refund they got one year. a refund that they could get every year by allowing you to increase taxes on the richest 1% and lower taxes on middle class. seriously Mr. President, why would you want to lead a nation that fights against its own best interest and just follow the voices of the GOP leaders whom themselves are slaves to the richest 1%. how can you free a nation when that nation is a slave by choice and not by force. how can you educate a nation when that nation choses darkness by choice and not by force. how can you grow the economy and rise the middle class to where it should be and needs to be when middle class itself says no to health insurance and lower taxes. see the problem Mr. President is that Middle Class deserve what they get. They are the majority and they are the ones who voted for the current congress of No. they are the ones who chosen to be doomed so let them. trust me Mr. President they do not deserve you and not the other way. you deserve to lead a smart nation and this nation does not deserve you.
Respecfully,
A truly Ex Republican who turned Independent after seeing the light.
Republicans have had all the press for months now. Once the Obama campaign machne revs up, Obama will pull ahead. Again and for good.
CNN-you can do better than this.........time to change the channel.
These polls are a joke. Isn't this the same poll that said the Repubs could not make a dent in Congress in 2010? And look what happened. Plain and simple just let the voters decide in November and quit trying to show off candidates.
with obama the only one making progress to repair what the GOP has already done – I'm willing the let obama handle it for another four – the GOP time and again has proven just how self righteous and out of touch with reality they are
It doesn't matter what they say. I'm voting Ron Paul.
Romney cannot beat Obama without Paul's follower support. Paul can beat Obama without Romney's support, because of the anti war votes Paul draws off Obama.
Obama = spineless idiot...America really needs some change in 2012. Let Obama follow Billary into the talk show circuit!
I feel like the republicans who aren't voting for Paul really don't understand the fundamental economic problem or they just right him and his supporters off because they listen to the news stations and don't do their homework. Just read a little bit people, and look at what the alternatives are if real change doesn't come.
So why does the breaking news only say Romney when it is him and Paul who are tied with Obama?
So the article is about how Obama, Romney, and Paul are statiscally tied and then the entire body of the article talks about Romney and ignores Paul.... strong reporting... /SMH
Top campaign contributors:
Obama: Goldman Sachs
Romney: Goldman Sachs
Paul: Active duty military personell
It's your choice, just saying...
..and in 2008, Obama was way behing John McCain. What's your point? When the truth about Romney is exposed, President Obaba will crush this pretender.
hey lets keep asking Paul if he is going to run 3rd party or if he is electable
A Moron, a Mor(m)on, and a Revolutionary.....hmmmm
They are all stooges!
Why is 90% of this post (and the headline) about Romney, when Dr. Paul is also tied with Obama in the poll? If two Republicans are tied with the President in a poll, you should cover both men.
Ron Paul will work over Obama in a head to head match-up. The people of this country know we are in a bind and we need Paul's principles and integrity to clean up the mess. Obama has failed to unite this country because of his class warfare politics. I was afraid that would be the case when he was elected but I gave him the benefit of the doubt because I thought he might actually be different. He wasn't!!!!!!!!! Ron Paul 2012!!!!!!!!!
Ron Paul is the only president I will recognize. If Mitt Romney wins, it will be a tragedy.
Obama may be a nice guy and for sure he's a smooth talker.............but one thing is still fact – The Tracking Poll for Saturday shows that 23% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty percent (40%) Strongly Disapprove. 2012 will be about jobs and the President doesn't have a clue how to bring jobs to this country. I would be happy if he could just get unemployment back down to the 7.6% it was when he took office.
I guess all that hope and change fell through!!
That Paul has tied with Obama despite being ignored, ridiculed and marginalized by CNN, FoxNews and the rest of the mainstream media, is very telling. Imagine what he would do if the media actually covered the news instead of engaging in the unprofessional, juvenile behavior we have seen thus far. The media has left quite a bad taste in my mouth.
Top campaign contributors to them:
Obama: Goldman Sachs
Romney: Goldman Sachs
Paul: Active duty military personell
It's your choice, just saying...
This means nothing. Obama will kick both of these jokes' butts.
This is not a good poll! 1,021 voters, that is not a reflection on the United states as a whole.
"The survey also suggests the Republican advantage on voter enthusiasm is eroding....."
----------------
After the series of debates that played out in Sept, Oct., and Nov., is it surprising that they are less enthused.
I voted for Obama in the last election, but will probably vote for Paul in the upcoming election, mostly i just believe the govenment needs to stop needlessly spending money in the middle east and take care of ourselves instead of countries GW Bush decided we need to invade. I care more about the Amercans who are struggling than the Middle Easterners.
hahahaha, "In the latest CNN/ORC International Poll, President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are tied in a general election matchup. "
Story "CNN Poll: Obama tied with Romney & Paul in November showdowns"
What happend to Ron Paul on the front page CNN?
Finally a mainstream article on CNN mentioning the fact that Ron Paul is statistically tied with Obama......way to go, maybe your not as biased as I thought. To bad they failed to mention it in the headline for the article and only mentioned Rommney ensuring less people will read it.
Romney has said he supports the current GOP congress. Ultimately the question is do you want to balance the budget on social security and medicare cuts or a combination of tax increases and cuts. You simply can't take the amount of money out of medicare and social security they are discussing without massive cuts to the benefit level.
Oh, but I thought Dr. Paul was “unelectable”.
This means that, Obama will win.... And the Ravens are gonna win the SuperBowl!!!! CAW CAW CAW!!!
Was is this a breaking news? This is all hypothetical ...
Obama hasn't even started campaigning yet. I'm not believing that Romney can pull the support of half the nation. I'm just not buying it at all. He can't even get above 25% in his own party.
I guess they forgot to ask the sample group how Dr. Paul would fair against Obama and the economy... curious.
The American people have a choice. It is either Mitt Romney (backed by Goldman Sachs), Barack Obama (backed by Goldman Sachs) or Ron Paul (backed by We the People). Paul IS electable and IS the true conservative in the race who can and WILL defeat Barack Obama. Only Paul can call out Obama on the wars and continuation of Bush's foreign policy without looking like a hypocrite. If Obama and Romney are the ones debating in the general election, there will be no true change. If Paul and Obama debate, the debates will be lively, and there will be a true national discussion of the fundamental issues that are impacting all of us. Go, Ron, go!!! We are all behind you!
How is this a breaking news??? Its a poll not an election result.
Establishment Tied IN THE POLLS AGAIN!! NO WAY!!
International Poll??? Does this include non US citizens who cant vote?
Right now the best chance Obama has of being re-elected is if Ron Paul runs as third party candidate. Cases in point: CNN's showing Ron Paul's photo along with Obama's and Romney's, and all the pro-Ron Paul comments from Democrats on liberal media sites pretending to be Ron Paul supporters.
In a race that close; independents voters, young voters and first time voters will make the difference... and we all know who gets the majority of these votes... Ron Paul
It looks like the media has been lying to us. Ron Paul is doing exceptionally well here against Obama, interesting.
Media still failing to stop Ron Paul
CNN is DISGUSTING!! They're all tied.. why .. why.. wouldn't you put Ron Paul's name on the front page? Why only Romney and Obama? You guys are pathetic. It's SO CLEAR, just knock it off, seriously.. you're becoming nothing but a joke in America.
This poll only show just how screwed up the voters in this country is or at least how screwed up the people polled are.
may the best man win with the interest of the nation first! where's palin? she should run for governor first and after her term is over, join the debates so we'll know if she had learn something.
USA isn't a business, It's a philosophy of ideas to free us of tyranny. The only political philosopher running for President in 2012 is Dr. Ron Paul, all others are just front-men for the mega Corporations. If we are wise enough we may be much freer four years from now.
Peace to all . . .
All Paul needs to do is run Independent and Obama will win easy.
Come on Paul we need ya.
CNN! Seriously? What in the hell? Are you THAT scared of Ron Paul that you flat REFUSE to put his name in the "Breaking News" notification, even though in your OWN STORY you admit that it would be a statistical THREE WAY TIE?!?!?!
"And a CNN/ORC International Poll released Monday also indicates that Rep. Ron Paul of Texas is also even with Obama in another possible showdown this November. "
Obama wins.
It's about time you posted something positive for Ron Paul. For some reason, the media is not taking him seriously. Thank you CNN, this is the beginning of a media jolt for the next President, Ron Paul.
Romney is leading this poll. If Obama were winning, the CNN headline would be "Obama leads Romney in national poll".
Biased much?
Ron Paul is the vote for change. Votes for Romney or Obama means more war, more lies
IMO Dems. and Dem. leaning Indeps. learned a very valuable lesson that mid-term elections are very important. They see now what can happen when Rep. obstructionists are voted into congress. They have fought our pres. in every way possible. They continue to tack on totally irrelevant additions to bills, knowing full well the pres. (nor the voters) will accept them. Maybe McConnell has finally realized that we the voters choose our pres.–he doesn't! We'll decide if he has 1 or 2 terms, not him.
It isn't surprising that enthusiasm among Reps. has lessened-with what they have to choose from–unbelievable!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012/WARREN ANYTIME
we need the economy fixed......good bye Obama!!!!!!!! Romney has loads of successful business experience....Obama...not so much.
)
What a bunch og BS. They attack Romney ? All the establishment and the MSM media ( just look att the exemple above ) are attacking and ignoring Ron Paul , yet he manages to get this result in this poll. Imagin what RP,s. number would be if the media gave him just a tiny benefit of the doubt...God Dam this is crazy !!!
OLD REPUBLICAN PARTY BYE BYE!!!! in with the Old Ways- True Ways , to be New Again/
)
GO RON PAUL 2012!
I was a warmonger, voted straight Republican party ticket for 41 yrs! Eyes opened Now!!!!
Please folk read up on DR. Paul
Opened my old eyes. Them SOB's have been lying to us for years!!!
Now i'm MAD!!!!
Poll means nothing. Once Obama knows who he's going against it will be like beating up a baby. Romney and Paul are horrible candidates. Economy is only going to get stronger between now and election day.
Who is this Mitt Romney? We know he's a guy whose only significant accomplishment in government was "Obamacare" (aka Romneycare), a program conservatives call a "massive socialist takeover". Now he says he's opposed to it. He said that he's "a moderate with progressive views", but he spends most of his time these days trying to paint the extremely centrist President as some sort of Bolshevik renegade. He's a guy who doesn't seem to be much interested in the truth, a guy who takes the art of saying whatever it takes to get elected to a whole new level. He's a guy whose CEO (and Michigan Governor) father paved his road in life who now says he believes in "meritocracy", despite never having experienced it. He's a guy who made his fortune killing jobs, strip-mining companies, and collecting the life insurance. He's known no hardship in his life and yet he wants to take over a country he says is in crisis? No thanks. I'm sticking with the guy who inherited nothing and actually worked his way to the top. I'm sticking with the guy who headed off a 2nd Great Depression, took out bin Laden, and ended the misguided war in Iraq. I'm sticking with the middle class kid raised by a single mom from Kansas who actually had to make his own way and hasn't forgotten what a long road it was.
Unfortunately, there isn't a good option on either side of the ballot. Abdication or ineptness wherever you look.
I really see no purpose in these "Polls" that the media continuously insist on blasting out to the public. To what end to they serve?? to confuse?? to sway public sentiment?? I just dont get what they are for. Its not difficult enough that we cant make heads or tails about whether or not the perspective politicians are in fact lying... or telling the truth... we have the media congesting the rational deduction by injecting these snipit polls. I see it as a total waste of time.... The media should really insist on this end fighing between politicians halt.... the media is supposed to keep these people in check... In my estimation... the media is a serious part of the problem in todays politics... its like you thrive on the constant sniping at one another that these politicians do.... you thrive on that next "Gotcha" moment that you can broadcast on the television.... giving the oponet the advantage for a brief time... Yes.. the media is part of the problem in American politics... the American politicians are just pulling your strings for the advantage... and your too stupid to realize it.
Looks like for more years of " Hope and pocket change".
And just think, the President hasn't even begun to campaign yet.
I like how in the breaking news headline it reads that Obama and Romney tied, but when you click on the link for the full story, the headline included Paul LOL Gotta love MSM
Just wait til the debates. People forget but Obama is one of the finest debaters this country has ever seen, and its part of the reason he got so popular in the first place. He's going to bury Romney.
Iowa and New Hampshire a re irrelevant and Ron Paul is unelectable. Does the media BS ever stop? Who listens to this stuff anyway? Apparently not the target audience.
I am really tired of the media ignoring Ron Paul. I clicked the 'breaking news link' that stated ROMNEY AND OBAMA TIED! To see that both Romney AND Paul are tied. What is going on? The American public is sick of both 'liberal' and 'conservative' media attempting to manipulate the message. CNN makes me sick!
The only demographic consistently for Ron Paul are closet racists.
The only demographic consistently for Mittens Romney are CEOs.
The only demographic consistently for Obama: the American People.
Oh Boy, this is not going to go well with Barry. He is probably already on a call with the Ax man. I can just hear the words of an angry man......"Ax what is going on? We are spending billions on my campaign and we are tied with Ron Paul and Mit Romney. You better get on it AX. With all the money we are spending against Mitt I want you to spin up another poll showing me leading Ron Paul if he is the candidate. I don't care what you have to do to change the numbers, just get it done, Ax"
Well, hopefully one of them has a corrupt brother who's a governor in a decisive state so it won't have to be a tie in the real election.
Means nothing. At this point, you could throw out any two names...or just say random things like Apple and Orange, and slap a D next to one and an R next to the other and the results would be about 50-50. It's only when the direct campaigning starts that distinctions are drawn for the majority of voters, and MOST of them will vote based on who they "like" better, not on any substantive issues.
Gee, too bad it's not November. Otherwise this poll might be relevant.
If the polls are any indication it will be president Obama again 2012-2016. People cannot overlook the improvements in jobs and general economy that are occurring recently and the credit goes to the current president's efforts in the face of stiff opposition by GOP held congress. Romney does not have a chance despite the polls.
After watching Bill Moyers on Sunday-any Republican should be voted out of office for their simple belief in --not to tax the rich!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too early to believe any poll anyway..................
Ask Santorum if he is electable, and if he has any plans to run 3rd party.
IWalking door to door in my neighborhood recently, I hear "I'm voting for the guy who is electable, Romney" - people are basically saying they will hold their nose and vote for Romney despite the FACT that with Romney we will just be shoveling our children's future taxes at banks for another four years. NOTHING will change with Romney. He is every bit as much an establishment candidate as Obama.
Please, people, learn about Ron Paul. We have only a slim chance of restoring America, and HE IS IT. Go to http://www.ronpaul2012.com and read about his position on the issues; go to youtube and watch some of his speeches.
Ron Paul 2012 or bust.
This is breaking news?? Polls between Obama and the GOP contender won't mean squat until they're both on a stage in debate. Until then, stop trying to colonize our minds with polling statistics.
Right now, a lot of people view Romney as a generic businessman. As more of Romney's business record comes to light (for instance, his penchant for shredding American jobs to generate short term profits for the already wealthy), he's going to lose that "better for the economy" edge. Considering Romney's weak track record in job creation and these numbers, it may ultimately turn out that Ron Paul is actually the Republican canidate with the best chance against Obama.
Is this really news when we are still 9 months before the elections? What happened to news outlets reporting news and not hype?
President Obama will win
P Romney and VP Paul would be an unstoppable Republican combination for this coming fall.
Obama will be reelected.
This poll does not reflect the overall nation. There is alot of Paul supporters and Romney Supporters.
If Romney gets gop nomination will be very clear in general election who will fighting for the middle class and who will fighting for the big corporations.
Ron Paul is an insane racist that is not capable of runninng anything.
It seems like this makes the math for Mr. Obama difficult. Since he is likely to win California, Illinois, and New York by wide margins, the GOP nominee can be even and still pull out close wins in FL, PA, OH, MI, etc.
Romney, Obama, there really is not much of a difference. There is only one candidate that is a fiscal conservative and a social liberal and represents real change. Ron Paul 2012.
My favorite candidate is not running, former Governor, and decorated US Navy SEAL, Jesse Ventura. In all likelihood, my 2012 vote will be for President Barack Obama. Four more years of President Obama is better than any radical Republican on the list. I haven't forgot the not-so-glorious G.W. Bush / Dick Cheney years and really don't think we can afford to go down that road again.
I wish we could have a strong independent presidential candidate, instead of the same democrat and republican parties. Out of Obama, Romney, and Paul, I would go for Paul. I also agree with some of the comments on here that these polls don't really mean much.
Breaking News...Mitt Romney has name his running mate for VP...Alfred E. Newman. Romney said...Alfred brings a lot of experience to the ticket, his famous line..."What me worry?" is what I need said Romney. And it's true, I have a lot of money, more than most of you sheep that blindly go where I tell you to go. With Newman at my side, we won't have to worry. Not that I ever had to worry when I have lived a pampered life. Mortgage payments, bills, cost of food and fuel, working at a real job, that's for you peons, not me. Pampered by my Mexican/American father as a baby, pampered going to college, pampered even getting that Bain job. Looking to get pampered even more when I become President. Now out of my way you measly people with your measly problems, I got a life, said Romney.
This shows the the 20% Independents are the ones that choose the President. (and were not count on this poll)
Who cares. Statistically more people claim to be conservative. Obama got elected because of the "historical" of electing a half black guy. He has brought this country down by continuing the path that Bush set out. Obama has no chance. If he does than I am moving from this country.
If Romney... or any of the current republican candidates get into the Whitehouse, then the US is probably going to be okay in the long run. But the people? They're going to get screwed over bigtime! Seriously... have any of you read what these candidates stand for? It makes me sick to my stomach to think that there is even a remote possibility that any of these zealots could get into power.
ron paul is statistically tied. imagine what would happen if he received the exposure he's earned and deserves. it's a great sign that although MSM has tried to black him out, that our citizens are still paying enough attention to research him.
Another biased article – breaking news banner is "In the latest CNN/ORC International Poll, President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are tied in a general election matchup." Seemed to have left someone out, right??? Maybe a refresher in journalistic ethics is called for.
Ron Paul should dump the party of clowns and run as an independent. Mittens would be left in the dust.
westward - Obama hasn't even started campaigning yet.
=========================================
Surely you jest? Can you name a time when he WASN'T campaigning over the last 3 years??? He's been the most partisan hack President this country has ever seen.
So, the option is to either put a Pro-Tarp, Pro-mandate, Pro-Patriot Act, Pro-undeclared wars candidate (Romney) against a Pro-Tarp, Pro-mandate , Pro-Patriot Act, Pro-undeclared wars President (Obama); or put up an Anti-Tarp, Anti-mandate, Anti-Patriot Act, Anti-undeclared wars candidate (Dr. Paul) against Obama.
You know, I'm no highly-paid pundit, but the Republicans would be wise to get behind this Dr. Paul fella who is quietly grabbing the independents and young voters. Oh, and by the way, they won't jump ship either. Once you understand Dr. Paul's message, you begin to see how inconsequential Romney vs. Obama would be for the future of this soon-to-be-bankrupt country we love.
The only demographic consistently for Obama: socialists who could care less about their rights
Headline on the CNN Front Page Ticker leaves Ron Paul out?
Devil in the details: These numbers look very good for Obama. He leads in the Northeast and in the West where population is thick, and he leads handily among women and independent voters, even has good indy numbers vs. Dr. Paul. I'd like to see Paul surge ahead to keep it interesting, but I really thought Paul held more of the younger demographic than Obama.
I wanted a more conservative candidate....but I have decided to back Romney. He can get Obama out of the White House, which is what our country needs right now more than anything.
Paul is the most dangerous candidate to the military industrial complex. His views on deregulation of business as a whole and his lack of support for public education (my wife is a teacher) make it hard to vote for him personally, but I respect his integrity and honesty. It would be tough to choose between Obama and Paul, but Romney is a total joke. Period.
This poll doesn,t mean anything . When it comes time for the elections the majority of the people have seen how much of a failure loser obama has been and they will come together and vote for whoever is his apponent and remove deadbeat obama before he gets a chance to destroy this country completely. His failed, corrupt, policies haven't worked and most likely made things worse and slowed down the nations recovery . The only way that loser obama can get reinstalled is to rig the elections, again and it seems that they are working on that under the radar.
Oh, that "unelectable" Ron Paul...
►CNN Poll: Obama tied with Romney & Paul in November showdowns◄
Bring it ON – I love the "dead heats" but many on the right will frown
When the candidate from the RIGHT is finally picked and the REAL election begins
President Obama will have his chance – one on one – and his numbers will RISE again!!!
Even thought this is a "national" poll – the ONLY ones really paying attention are Republicans and political NUTS from the Left like me!!!
Obama 2012!!
How is this logically possible? From a mathematic standpoint unless I am mistaken. How can 1 percentage equal 2 other percentages?
If Obama is at 48%, how can Romney have 48% and Paul have 48%. Unless Obama has 48% and Romney has 26% and Paul 26% also which would mean if they got married and ran for president together
Romney was a governor run a business Obama a 2 year senator and did not run anything except the tele prompter
I'm thoroughly confused abut this whole economy thing.
In january, 2009, the economy was in a recession, the recession ended June 2009 by definition, our economy has grown every quarter since June 2009
in january , 2009 we were losing nearly 750,000 jobs a month, we have added jobs 22 of the last 26 months, I mean we are adding not losing jobs do people not realize this?
in january, 2009, the dow was below 6000, today it's above 12,000
I'm perplexed by this whole economy issue, is the economy back to where it was in 2000, nope, but it's not going to be anytime soon, but it is several order of magnitude better than where it was when Obama took over? So, while it isn't to everyones liking the economy, is growing, is adding jobs, and people are making money, so what is the issue? Obama had done a good job on the economy, he needs to start emphasizing these points.
and that poll means what today when Obama wins a landslide in Nov? McCain was 'tied" also until election day.
there is no contest, obama wins no matter who the gop picks .these guys will lose every debate.
Oh CNN, you consistently do your best to keep Ron Paul off of your channel and web site. Ron Paul is the only clear choice!
Ron Paul 2012!!
Tied for what? Picks on the NFL playoffs? Please give me a break!
Obama's lemmings are living in a fantasy land. Read the news! Europe's economy has collapsed, due in no small part to Obama's money men, and by November the US economy is going to be flat on it's back. Obama will lose, even your silly Obama-Clinton ticket, will go down in flames. The next President of the United States is being selected in those primaries. The choice is between Romney, offering up the same failed ideas and policies as Obama or Ron Paul, who will stop the free trade insanity and grow our domestic economy, while saving the lives of our young men and women by putting an end to the neocon's games of "project American power" by using them as canon fodder.
The one thing that's encouraging, all of these candidates seem to want to talk about the issues (Romney to a lesser degree)...and get presidential politics out of Jerry Springer land and back to civilized debate. Unless of course Romney or Paul chooses one of the partisan lightning rods as their running mate (Gingrich, Santorum, Perry), we just might have some real political dialogue this election.
Obama/Biden for re-election in 2012!!!
Ridiculous. This poll means absolutely nothing. We all know that the American public have short attention spans. They are not tuned into the November election just yet. When the republican nominee finally is selected, and the debates begin topic by topic, then we can begin taking note of the polls as people will be paying more attention then. Even so, the only poll that matters is on electoin day. I predict President Oboma will win re-election handedly when it's all said and done. Meanwhile, I discount all the noise between now and this summer. Nice try CNN trying to crown Romney and put him in the White House.
THIS JUST IN......the lastest GOO/POO Poll has Obama ahead 20 points vs. Romney in November.
voter enthusiasm.only a fool would be excited over obama or romney.
I wasn't called for this poll! It must be invalid! (being like one of those dorks who seriously believes this)
At this point, polls show little about who will go on to win. It just shows what direction any candidate should try to steer things to improve their chances at winning.
LET US PUT THINGS IN PROPER PERSPECTIVE
- – - -
The first week after Labor Day in September 2008, (just months until Presidential elections) Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin led then Senator Barack Obama and Senator Joe Biden by 3-points. So why is CNN hyping a story that is guaranteed to change where Obama will lead Romney by 8-points come November 2012?
But we have been told over and over again that Paul cannot gain broad support and is unelectable?
Paul is kind of irrelevant unless he runs as an independent candidate. That would guarantee Obama wins though.
LET US PUT THINGS IN PROPER PERSPECTIVE

These polls at this point are meaningless. There's quite a bit of time between now and November...all sorts of scenarios can happen that can change the direction of the election. Unemployment could continue to trend downward (Reagan's unemployment spiked near 10% at the beginning of his first term, and was at 8.3% at about this same time going into his reelection), uncontrollable world events could alter the landscape of the US and the world, and don't forget a major verbal gaffe or two from either candidate or their VP picks during the debates...those issues could change the course of the election...and if history is any indication, most people don't make their decision until a few weeks, or even days, before they go into the voting booth. These polls should be taken with a grain of salt...they only exist to fuel people tuning in to the various news and cable channels...nothing more.
Can we stop with the "Ron Paul is unelectable" meme now?
Paul has won the Independent vote over and over against Romney. His youth support and first time voter support is also unmatched. Time and time again these things have proven to be essential in elections (It will especially be against Obama) and yet no one in the GOP Establishment wants to admit Paul has the best chance because it means they will have to actually reform their party back to actually BEING CONSERVATIVE!
Bring conservatism back to the republican party, nominate Ron Paul! You'll not only win the White House, you'll win years and years and years of Republican support from all the 20 somethings that would win the election for Paul and save this country. Those people would never leave the new Republican party.
And those people will also never forget the way you shunned Ron Paul or his supporters if you choose the politics as usual alternative!
They supported McCain too, so it's not always black & white. Just sayin'
Paul supporters ahd better be careful what they wish for. Once the press starts to take a close look at him, he will be gutted like a fish.
They have been relentlessly bashing Obama for over a year, and this is the best they can do? Shows you what a pathetic field this is.
There are a lot of Republicans who would rather have Obama than that war-monger Santorum. What an awful choice that would be.
I cant wait until Paul loses, so all the Paultards can stop spamming message boards all day and start looking for a job. Between tokes, of course.
There tied with Obama despite CNN,NBC,CBS and ABC trying to dig up dirt on the Republicans but never on Obama. Will the Liberal media continue to destroy our country?
Gavin, Obama for the people? U gotta be kiding me. NDAA, Patriot act, Geitner, Paulson, Bernankee, Goldman sachs...Come on ..There is no one Wall Street loves more than Obama....In fact they want "Robaney" to be elected in GOP cause he has no chance in H...beating Obama. Ron Paul, who gets ALL his donations from the people and soldires would in the other hand, sweep the floor clean with the BSing dictator you call Obama. remember, He got the Nobel price för best act of BSing !
Small coffee house owner has to pay credit card processing 26 cents per swipe of each credit or debit card. Imagine 26 cents less from a typical $1.25 charge for a small coffee. Paying cash for a coffee will always help the SMALL LOCAL BUSINESSES !!!!!
Polls Smolls Romney wont want to come with 100 feet of Obama if its up to him... Paul might actually change things unless he gets the same talk Obama did when he won... "Now that your the Prez we need to inform you that what you think doesnt matter, you'll do as your told". NWO
"After watching Bill Moyers on Sunday-any Republican should be voted out of office for their simple belief in –not to tax the rich!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Right on, Martha. The GOBP deathcult is blatantly thumbing its nose at the two thirds of America (including about half of Republicans) who want the millionaire's surtax and an end to the Bush tax cuts for the filthy rich. And no one in our so-called "liberal" media has called them out.
CNN and their stupid polls...what a joke...poll this CNN!
If this country is as stupid as I believe them to be, they'll elect romney...and then they'll complain 4 years down the road when they get what he gives them. And if they do elect this clown, it's only because their employers have instilled the fear in them by holding all those profits and not hiring...the rich in this country are evil! that's why they use republicans like puppets.
this country has become a joke because of one party who wants to keep the poor..poorer..and the rich RICHER.
I don't believe this poll at all. It sounds like a Fox News story.
Thats got to be worrying for the GOP.
I mean despite the terrible job they say Obama is doing they can still only statistically tie with him in a poll?
Shouldn't they be galloping ahead by now, leaving him in the dust?
Ouch.
Man, that's putting the "hype" in hypothetical survey!!!
BS. All Romney needs to do is all McCain's states, VA, IN, NC, NH, OH and FL. And he gets 270. Literally, 270. Do the math. There's no way, Obama wins FL. The REP convention is in Tampa, FFS. It's all about Ohio. Just 18 votes. Go Romney!
President OBomber (OBaller when he doesn't feel like working and attends Wizards games) will be reelected because too many people want their social medicine and their welfare checks
Now for those that told us over and over that McCain was too old, what in the world does that make Ron Paul? Just watching, and listening to him, you can tell age is catching up to him. And besides, some of those people voting for RP were once standing and chanting for lyndon Larouche! Please RP just fade away...
Considering how many Democrats are being investigated for voter fraud from the last election, it could be a very scary outcome. Will we really know......... if Obama gets elected............... that it was a legitimate result?? We've reached a new low in America when you have to doubt an elections outcome as being VALID!!!
Why is anyone even talking about Paul, he said himself he isn't electable. He seems intent on just wasting tax payers money so he can parade around the US and talk about saving money and smaller government. What a jerk.
As a Democrat, I have never been more motivated to vote than I am for the next election. I will donate the maximum allowed by law to the Obama campaign, I will also donate to Liberal PACs. I will also donate as much of my time as I can to the Obama campaign (and to Democratic candidates for the House and the Senate.) I think most Democrats share my motivation.
Most Democrats I know are beginning to get fired up. Lets work towards winning the White House, the Senate and the House of Representatives.
This is nice to say now, but the GOP is emptying their clip right now, trying to get the nod. Obama is just hoarding cash, and has said almost nothing on what he will say to the people, other than look at what we really have done.
My prediction is Romney will be the GOP candidate, but get blasted in head to head debates. Mr 1% has no economic solutions, just a bunch of generic bumper sticker phrases. McCain was torched for the same reasons.
After Obama, I would vote for Bozo. We cant keep failing America aswe do.
Snap shots are useless
Obama is the best.
Ron Paul is the only person that can beat Obama. I'm not talking about who is right or wrong, but Ron Paul is the only person who has enough support from EVERYONE to be elected.
How anyone can vote for Romney is beyond me. He will cut taxes even more for the wealthy- and get rid of social security and medicare. He cares nothing for people. remember, to him, 'corporations are people" and then he had the nerve to say that the money corporations make goes back to people. More like one or two, the CEO's who are given huge bonuses while the workers who create the products are left behind in wages. They cannot even buy what they make – Romney is an elite destroyer of American jobs. So, Americans, if you are not ultra wealthy and you vote for him, you are voting against your own interests, your children, your grandchildren and the planet. Don't listen to Fox News or Limbaugh, they are only mouthpieces of the wealthy – they lie, they are hate mongers and trouble makers.
did mine homework and Paul is the only straight talking and consistent in his opinions candidates.
"Once you understand Dr. Paul's message"
something none of his supporters have done yet....they hear 'freedom' and 'peace' and dont actually work out what his policies will really mean for the country.
RON PAUL for president 2012!!!
MONEY BOMB TODAY
ron paul 2012 com
Oh, so the Republicans DO have an electable alternative to Romney. Personally, I would never ever support Romney, but I definitely would give Paul a look.
Wow, congratulations CNN. It's probably the first time EVER where you actually acknowledged Ron Paul in a homepage headline image and article - albeit shared with Romney and Obama. I realize CNN Reporter Dana Bash is all "worried" about Ron Paul. Was she having cardiac arrest when George W. Bush, the worst president ever, was elected not once, but twice? Surely the US can weather any president now after that characters path of destruction?
Romney is NOT going to get the independent voters, NOT going to get Democrat voters and NOT going to get Paul supporters.
"rand – Considering how many Democrats are being investigated for voter fraud from the last election"
lol, and how many is that then?
already trying to claim the next election as a fraud huh? too funny.
I seriously doubt CNN is trying to put Romney in the White House
Paul is looney. The Nader of the new decade. Romney represents big business. When the ACTUAL election ramps up (not this circus GOP thing) Obama will run away with this election. People will look at the economy which is actually stabilized and starting to improve, the fact that we are done with both Bush wars, and the fact that he has been near perfect on terrorism and foreign policy and they will vote for 4 more years along with more support for his policies. Polls showed McCain and Obama very close up til election day last time and McCain was trounced. Popularity polls do not equal electoral votes. Remember, popular vote last time was only 6.5% different but the results were 365 to 173. CNN is just trying to appear fair in their reporting but even they know the winner is already living in the white house.
Oh sheesh. We have to keep seeing and hearing about these daily "polls" for another 10 months. I don't think I can survive this election. And the political telemarketers are going to be more fierce than ever this year, along with the TV ads.
No matter who you decide to vote for, Obama is admired by most Nations around the world, He will be re-elected based off of popularity. He fulfilled his promises, Ended the War in Iraq, Made Health Care affordable, and blah blah blah...We are not in a situation to change Presidents, I am no supporter of Obama but putting these other chumps just because of economy issues your asking for trouble. Economic issues are caused by Inflation, Natural Disasters, Political issues and so forth not the President. 10 People want the same thing there are only 8 of that thing available prices sky rocket..and that is the Presidents fault? Or Gas prices...President does not make the prices, and He cannot make them cheaper..so ask yourself what bad has Obama really done? He is much better than most Presidents of the past. So put some republican in office and you'll regret you made that choice..please note I am for the republicans just not any of these. So the Office shouldn't change based on what some of you simply "think"
I'm a Registered Democrat currently living in a Republican State for the last 6 yrs. As a 'transplant' from the northeast, I guess it will take me about 30 seconds in that Voting booth, since I plan on Voting a Straight Ticket. But, IF Ron Paul's Name is on the Ticket in November, believe me, I will vote for him. I think America should think about it, and think where this country will be, in 4 more yrs, it doesn't really matter whether our nxt prez is Romney / or if Obama gets re-elected, with a 15 Trillion debt, we're Sunk !! In the nxt 3 or 4 yrs, we will be in 'hawk' for around 18 Trillion. Otherwise this country needs to get behind Ron Paul. If Romney is on the Ticket in November, I guess I will have to Vote for Obama, because a Vote for a Democrat, is a vote for the People of this country. It really doesn't matter to me, because I've already paid my dues, since I am semi-retired now, worked at a factory for 28 yrs, and now drawing a pension, plus have a part time business. But I'm telling you folks, you better get behind somebody that is for the 'regular working class' people, otherwise, we're Sunk ! IF Ron Paul gets IN, then we can actually "save" our Dollar. Otherwise, I don't hear Obama or Romney or any of the others talking about trying to reduce or deficit or debt. They all want to "reduce" a Trillion , in 10 or 12 or 15 years. ( that's not going to cut it) Otherwise, we better be thinking about 2 or 3 dollars for a loaf of bread. ( this means our money will eventually be worthless) Or they need to come up with another monetary system, in this country.
Larry in Houston
Romney= pathetic robot and if he wins i would short every stock in the market and then move to norway! Obama is the brightest and best of them by far (though I do like Paul a whole lot) however he needs to stop this compromise crap. you shouldn't have to compromise with a pack of intellectually handicapped (republicans) people. You just tell them what to do and let them complain to each other at the local grocery store.
Sorry, but Obama is still the only one I'll vote for. And why? Because he understands that this recession is deeper then previously thought and that radical measures need to be taken to dig us out of it. The Republicans are only looking to line their own pockets with dollar bills before things turn even more sour. All we have heard from the Republicans about how to create jobs and improve this nations economy is a roar of thundering excuses about what the president is doing wrong. They have offered nothing in terms of their own ideas about how to improve things. And why do they do this? Because they don't have the first clue on how to make things right and put it back together. While the President, on the other hand, is showing that he knows what to do. Sure it's not going to happen over night, but with a Republican behind the wheel I guarantee that it will not happen at all. The only thing that will happen if the Republican take back the White House is the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer. Chose wisely America.
If 47% of the voters would actually consider voting for Obama again, this country is a lost cause. he's the absolute worst president in at least the past 100 years. I never thought I'd live to see one who is actually worse that the Jimmy Carter.
Well. all republican say they will keep the economy moving. president bush said the same thing but he made it even worse. President obama working hard every day bring the economy back in good track. Wow. What a republican.
Hoping these polls convinces RP to go 3rd party
Romney just said that the grievances of the middle class are "envy" of the upper class. Kind of out of touch?
I think it's time to call on the Donald!
At this point in the game Obama should be way ahead. This is not good for Obama.
Obama needs to go. He said he had the answers and his answers have failed the American worker and the middleclass.
just look at the top contributor of money for these candidates and you will know who are endorcing them and whose intrests these men will serve if they get elected.
Obama: Goldman Sachs
Mitt romney: Goldman Sachs
Ron Paul: Active Military personel
Ron paul received more money from defence forces than ALL the other republican candidates COMBINED. Doesn't that say something??
Further evidence that regardless of what the status quo lovers like to believe, Paul can win this thing. He has picked up incredible momentum.
Since CNN couldn't post a poll with Romney and Paul ahead because people would know straight off it was false, they did the next thing the made it tied. They think that people in this country that lived thru Bush's mess, have seen what the republicans have done to this country with the crappy majority in the House and the obstructionist republicans in the senate holding every thing up would actually vote for a republican. I guess they are like all republicans they think we are dumb.
The ONLY one who could beat Obama is Ron Paul. Romney is just too similar, while Paul is just very honest and has a huge honest track record of predicting our problems and suggestions that would absolutely have avoided many of these problems. Santorum and Gingrich have so many targets, there's no way they have a shot in the world. Obama is now sending troops into Australia!! Wow, Obama would lose to Paul for several reasons.
Obama has failed the black community failed America.
Unbelievably biased journalism CNN, unbelievable. Why do you refuse to acknowledge Ron Paul? What are you so afraid of, or are you being paid by some other interests? Shame on you, seriously. Shameful. Please, for the sake of democracy, fairness, and humanity report the news accordingly. If Ron Paul is the way the nation votes, then so be it. We've been a country 235 years, and that won't stop if Ron Paul is elected. Please add some integrity to your journalism and recognize this man.
Ron Paul 2012, you have my vote!
This is a meaningless statistic at this point. Only Republicans have been actively campaigning. The Democratic party has not yet begun a public campaign. Even if nothing else changes, once there is an active campaign on both sides, the numbers will shift.
That's just because most democrats still don't know who Ron Paul is. When they find out the tea party only used his ideas to bolster their movement and he's not a religious zealot, they'll come around.
If Ron Paul doesn't get the nomination, I'll vote for Obama. Mitt Romney is only a liar and politician. He doesn't want to help anyone. He just wants to look good.
funny they dont post the results on what people think about the economic policies of the only elected offical in washington and said "there is a housing bubble and it will destroy the economy when it burts".
Now he is trying desperatly to sound the alarm of the next bubble, but this time its the money you hold in your wallet! and when that bubble burts it will take a wheelbarrel of benjermins just to buy a loaf of bread!
We the people (our elected officals) ignored Paul about the housing market, can we afford to ignore him again?
No more old, white people in politics.
Ahh polls...
Didn't the polls once say Bachmann would be the republican candidate? Then Cain? Then Gingrich? Maybe Perry somewhere in between there?
Obama could not have any worse news then this. He should be up by 30 points. Not good when you are tied this early.
Further evidence that regardless of what the status quo lovers like to believe, Ron Paul can win this thing. He has picked up incredible momentum.
Dr. Ron Paul, please don't give up and don't get discouraged. You will prevail.
Ron Paul 2012 !!
This is nothing but a shameless attempt by CNN to encourage Paul to enter a 3-way race next fall to split the GOP votes.
You have to be born yesterday not to see through this. Shame on you CNN!
Stop killing yourself over this news because No romney or Paul will win a thing, BARACK OBAMA is getting re-elected so stop talking and go vote for him I mean anyway he'll win without your vote so don't bother..thank you
Looking at these last three years, I'd almost think we had a community organizer at the helm....
America, Please...vote for someone that has even the slightest clue what they are doing.
It's scary there are so many people even considering Paul
Who did you poll? Some escaped loons from the republican loony bin .Pauls almost 80years old and wants to live in the horse and buggy days and the other ones just a plain loser and unelectable!!!
I don't put much stock in this poll. I have always voted Republican until the last election and I have no intention on voting Republican in the next. Bush and his nit wit republicans created the problem we are still trying to get ourselves out of.
Therefore no support from me. Incubents will also receive no further support from me. I'm sure there are many more that believe the same way.
Thanks for including Ron Paul in this polling. I noticed he was the only one left out of a similar one by Fox News.
Total BS.... Romney is not electable. Corporate VULTURE
These posts are hilarious, stop it! I love the ones that say the Republicans poll well because they're had all the media coverage – have any of you noticed that it's all been NEGATIVE coverage? It will get more negative as the Democrat cheerleaders who control the media step up their campaign. The US can only hope the voters see through the spin and realize that we are NOT better off than we were 4,000,000,000,000 dollars ago. When my son asks why his generation is being saddled with this impossible debt, all I can do is tell him I didn't vote for any Democrats. What do you liberals tell your kids?
Obama is the lowest rated president for job performance than any other president before elections.
This ORC poll is nonsense. Obama is going to win this election by a landslide. The primaries are a catastrophe for the GOP.
It has taken us three years to get out of the hole GB put us in. Do you realize we almost went into a depression? It will take less than 4 months for any GOP president to set us back like we were three years ago? Be careful how you vote. We are just now beginning to see the light.
I have a phd in business, and my wife a master's in education. We have worked since our teens and never received any type of assistance. I never considered ourselves "liberals". We are a little younger than the Obamas and have 2 children. Mitt Romney's desire to become the next POTUS strikes us as disingenous with hidden agendas/motivations.
At this time we both are planning to cross party lines and vote for President Obama in 2012.
Of course republican enthusiasm is down. The establishment GOP is making sure we end up with Romney (Obamalite) as our nominee. The GOP will lose what should be a sure thing, only because the establishment GOP decided to play it safe.
This is great news! I am/was a democrat, but Obama is not the guy this country needs, that much is obvious and Ron Paul is the only one that I think will change this country for the better. The establishment is scared, too, very scared, and I think they will have to do something pretty dramatic,...like stage another terrorist attack on America or crash the dollar enabling Obama to use his new dictator powers, or just simply rig the vote, to keep Paul from getting elected. As you can see, I have very little trust in our scheming govt.
When other democrats find out that Paul also stands for Peace, Change, no bail outs, funding welfare instead of bankrupting, and personal freedoms, boy wouldn't that be a sight.
Romney = Obama...there is basically no difference between them in the plans they have and the past history in voting for legislation.
Paul is the only different candidate from these 2.
Its either Obama or Romney
Voting for any other GOP candidate is a vote for Obama because no other candidate is viable
This is a flawed poll because it comes on the heel of Republican primaries where more people that would normally vote Republican are the respondants. After these primaries, you will see Obama's poll numbers WAY up.
It is simply SHOCKING to see how biased media is in this country. They are simply trying to sell a rich corporate guy who is sitting on a quarter billion dollars personal wealth and can buy out anything – Mitt Romeny. And Ron Paul a veteran, 11 term congressman, doctor and more than that – AN EXTRAORDINARY ECONOMIC EXPERT of our times who told in what direction american economy is heading EIGHT years before everyone realized. He has been consistent and fighting against wrong direction capitalism was taking with powerful lobbying and bailouts. Media totally ignores him and even if they cover him, they try to pictureize him as a lunatic or "unelectible" – I dont know what that term means in a democratic election.
This is because we have been bombarded by all Republican candidate news ad nauseum for the past six months.
They have been telling outright lies about President Obama with no one there to give the actual facts. When whichever of the unqualified Republicans get chosen and has to actually face President Obama – they will look like the fools they are and these poll numbers wlll change drastically. President Obama is the only real leader we have, the only one who actually works for ALL Amercans, has never stopped delivering solutions for jobs and economic recovery that Republicans immediately obstruct and criticize while offering NOTHING in Congress to restore what they destroyed.
It will be a landsidle for President Obama when he gets equal campaign time. I certainlywill still be standing with President Obama because he stands up for the People and is the only one with real character and values.
For God's sake it's January !!! Over the last several months these guys have been blasting Obama on TV, and once Obama starts blasting back (once he has a single GOP candidate to target), things will change as we roll on towrd November. I can't wait to participate in blasting the GOP candidate myself.
@ VA Very Ex Republican
I feel you my friend. I often feel the same way.
News flash: Polls show Herman Cain in the lead for the nomination... oh, wait, that was a different COMPLETELY USELESS EARLY POLL!
Besides being a ridiculously small sample size, the poll was conducted by phone. That means that it was basically a sample set of retirees and stay-at-home parents, and due to trends away from the use of landlines, probably skewed towards older people who rely on cell phones as much. Not exactly a representative sample set.
FINALLY!!! Dr Paul gets some press. Its about time!!!
Liska: We are a stupid, stupid nation.
_______
Agreed. Any nation that continues to elect these morons (Obama, Bush, Clinton, HW Bush...) deserves to lose its superpower status. Our representatives have been selling us out since the early 70s (when Nixon first started opening the China floodgate) and NOBODY has been "For The People" here in the US ever since.
Unfortunately, the skills it takes to run a country is completely different than what it takes to win an election.
I'm definitely voting for the Republican Nominee, no matter who it is. Obama has done nothing for this country but raised the debt.
The phone rings at 3 AM in the White House. President Romney answers the phone and the conversation goes like this: Mr. President, the North Korea is invading South Korea with thousands of troops, how should we respond? President Romney...well, let me see...do they have money? No, Mr. President this isn't about money. I see, do you want to bet 10K that they will go away? No, Mr. President, I actually don't have 10K to bet, nor do I think this is a betting situation. I see, do you think maybe if we broke up Samsung or Hyundai and outsource the best parts to them, they will be happy and go away? No, Mr. President, they really don't want parts of company outsourced to them, they want the whole country, Samsung, Hyundai, lock, stock, and barrel. Well, that's because they just envy those guys if you ask me. Mr. President I don't know about the envy part, we need to take some action now. I see, well let's fire everyone in South Korea and outsource South Korea to North Korea. Mr. President, you can't outsource a whole country, you can't do what you did at Bain Ventures with South Korea. Well, what if we blame the Democrats for this and let the chips fall where they fall in South China. Mr. President, it's not South China, it's South Korea and we need to act fast here. Well, do you think Newt or Huntsman know what would be the thing to do, don't want to ask Santorum, he's busy on some anti abortion crusade and Paul is doesn't know better. I mean, it doesn't hurt to ask them would it? Mr. President, may I suggest you call Obama and ask him, he made the calls on the pirate hijackings, taking out Osama, things like that. What?...Obama did that? Wow, I must have missed all that with my perpetually running for President, didn't even stuff like that happened. OK, get me Obama. Mr. President, Obama is on the phone for you. Hey, Obama help me out here, what should I do here? CLICK. Hello, Obama, Obama...hello...Gee, nobody's on the phone, I'll call Chaney. Hey Chaney, it's me President Romney, I got this little problem here...Chaney: You call me at 4AM for something that you knew at 3AM? OK, this is what you do...launch an all out nuclear attack on Iran, then one on North Korea, that way you'll kill two countries at one time. Don't worry about the bad press, they are nothing but whimps. Just do what I say...and you can also let a few go down on China by accident of course, and this will set them back a few hundred years. Don't worry, before I left I set up a missle defense system in space to take any missles fired against us. Ok...got to go and go hunting with my friend. Just do what I said. Thanks Mr. Vice President doing it right now. Wow, that VP Chaney is some smart dude. 5 minutes later...Mr. President, NORAD is reporting incoming ICBMs being launched from China. Not to worry, we have that space shield missle defense system to take them out, right?
No, Mr. President we don't anything like that, there's no space system. Good job Mr. President...moron is going to get everybody killed.
What's shocking to me is that there are people posting on here who actually think that Romney or Paul would be a good president. The only reasons I can think of is that they have a lot of money they are trying to protect, or they don't know the actual issues that the candidates stand for, or they are idiots.
Polls are NOT the last word!
Mitt Romney is just like bush.he only cares about money fo him self and rich friends. paul warned us about the big collapse of wall street in 1988 and he does care about Americans in general.do research people. Don't judge someone by there things and looks. Look at the man by what he is.
We have 2 options, Obama or Romney
Voting for any GOP candidate that is not viable is a vote for Obama
For anyone who atleast spent one year out side of USA or try to gauge what the world thinks about America can CLEARLY see how important it is to take Ron Paul's foreign policy seriously. He is the only sane person around.
USA is gaining more and more enemies by killing hundreds of thousands of foreigners. A few short sighted politicans are causing a lot of trougle to the world and creating threats for the future generations as well
After looking at the data from this poll, unfortunately it seems this poll suffers from the same problems that many other cnn polls suffer from. CNN disproportionately surveyed different demographics in collecting this data. they surveyed more people from the more conservative south region than they should have in comparison to the more liberal northeast and west regions. Additionally, they disproportionately surveyed americans over 50 to americans under 50. Also they surveyed more Americans with above average incomes than those with below average incomes.
Basically this poll says that Romney and President Obama are tied nationally. The reason for this is that democrats are not thinking about the election yet. Once the republican primary is over and the economy improves democrats will start paying attention. Republicans are not going to the as enthusiastic as if Ron Paul or Santorum or even Perry was the nominee. If I was a republican I would not be enthusiastic over a millionaire big business Romney who believe corporations are people and is beloved by Wallstreet biggies.
MANY polls have shown Ron Paul as having the best chance to beat Obama… what is Romney going to say to Obama that isn’t hypocritical to any position he has had once himself i.e. support for individual mandate, support for Obama's "stimulus" package, carbon taxes, open borders, gun control, support for TARP, etc
Romney's just another wolf in pretty-boy sheep clothing.
Wow. This is by far the biggest news for the Paul campaign. Could this be the story which rallies conservatives around "their" candidate? Time will tell.
CNNs poll was taken where,in front of a Repubs pollster office.Wait till Obama debates any of them, then the Repubs will be done, case closed.Obama can raise from the middleclass more money than all of them combined,FACT.On donations of less than 200 dollars, not the Koch brothers, not Swiftboats T Boomed Pickens, not anyone,period..From the 99%ers,good luck hunting Obama, hope you have a RAT hunting permit...
Mitt
Why are you afraid to show the nation your TAX return?
The clowns that the rich Republican's are pushing on to us will
assure the Democrat's win the Presidential election and Congress.
So after hours of TV time bashing Obama and blaming him for EVERYTHING the past 6 months on the campaign trail, the best the top GOP vote getters can reach is a tie? I don't think that bodes well for the GOP in November.
Another rediculous poll with a ludicrously small sample. It stimulates interest but determines nothing. The conventions have not even been held, the world will see great change and opinions will shift. The only purpose of these polls is to give the pundits and "poltical strategists" justfication for their existence with something to talk about.
Once the nominee is chosen, conservatives will rally around them, the flip side is 4 more years of Obama.
A vote for Paul is a vote for All (We the People)
Personally, I won't vote for either one of these clowns! I'll throw my vote away on some third party candidate first. I will not be responsible for helping either of these losers become/remain President in 2012.
In the end Paul's morality will win him the nomination and the presidency. His campaign is pick up steam 'by leaps and bounds' while Romney's is loosing it. The people are disappointed in President Obama, because the expectations were too high about him (not that he's worse than his predecessors). In Paul's campaign there is so much grassroots work neither Romney or Obama have. Grassroots + the internet - think about. This is the Spring Revolution in America.
It's an INTERNATIONAL poll, which is virtually worthless, as 98% of the votes will be made domestically
CNN has a vested interest in Romney being a viable candidate for the rest of the year, even if he's not.......
