Gingrich pushes back against Romney's new line of attack

(CNN) – Republican White House hopeful Newt Gingrich responded Wednesday to new criticism from opponent Mitt Romney, who forcefully dismissed the former speaker's claims he helped create jobs while in Congress.

Hitting back, Gingrich pointed to his work passing President Ronald Reagan's economic policies in the House during the 1980s. Meanwhile, he argued Romney "wasn't doing anything about" the economy.

"How would he know?" Gingrich said on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."

Washington (CNN) - In a political gesture Wednesday, the U.S. House voted to "disapprove" the Obama administration's recent request to raise the nation's debt ceiling by $1.2 trillion.

The 239-176 vote was mostly along party lines, with one Republican opposing the measure in contrast to support from the rest of the party's majority caucus, while six Democrats supported it.

TIME: President Obama: Romney foreign policy attacks will wither in ‘serious debate’

(TIME) - President Obama dismissed Republican rival Mitt Romney’s critiques of his foreign policy credentials Wednesday in an exclusive TIME interview, saying the GOP frontrunner’s attacks are little more than primary posturing that will wither under the glare of “a serious debate.”

“I think Mr. Romney and the rest of the Republican field are going to be playing to their base until the primary season is over,” Obama told TIME’s Fareed Zakaria during a White House interview that will appear in the next issue of TIME magazine. “Overall, I think it’s going to be pretty hard to argue that we have not executed a strategy over the last three years that has put America in a stronger position than it was than when I came into office.”

House is in play, Dems say

Washington (CNN) – The head of the House Democrats' campaign committee said Wednesday that Democrats are positioned to retake control of the House of Representatives this fall, and rolled out the committee's "red to blue program" touting recruits in competitive races across the country.

"I'm not saying we've got the 25 seats we need in the bank. I'm not saying the majority is a guarantee. I am saying that we are nipping at their heels and we have the potential to overtake them [Republicans] over the next nine months," Rep Steve Israel, D-NY, told reporters Wednesday at a briefing.

Obama administration denies permit for Keystone pipeline

(CNN) - The Obama administration rejected a bid to expand the controversial Keystone oil sands pipeline Wednesday, saying the deadline imposed by congress did not leave sufficient time to conduct the necessary review.
