(TIME) - President Obama dismissed Republican rival Mitt Romney’s critiques of his foreign policy credentials Wednesday in an exclusive TIME interview, saying the GOP frontrunner’s attacks are little more than primary posturing that will wither under the glare of “a serious debate.”
“I think Mr. Romney and the rest of the Republican field are going to be playing to their base until the primary season is over,” Obama told TIME’s Fareed Zakaria during a White House interview that will appear in the next issue of TIME magazine. “Overall, I think it’s going to be pretty hard to argue that we have not executed a strategy over the last three years that has put America in a stronger position than it was than when I came into office.”
Former President Bill Clinton said Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney can't say what they believe and get nominated in a GOP primary, in an interview with Esquire published Wednesday.
"As a private citizen he [Gingrich] was for certain important health-care reforms and believed in climate change and believed there had to be a strong reaction to it. And now he's just like Romney," Clinton said. "Neither one of them can say what they believe to be true and get nominated. Romney's still trying to figure out what he did as governor of Massachusetts and still appeal to this driving vituperative energy."
Gingrich has cited his work with Clinton when he was Speaker of the House as evidence that he can fix the economy. Other times, he has left out Clinton and touted balancing the budget and creating 11 million new jobs.
When asked last December whether Gingrich could take credit for balancing the budget, Clinton said, "Not really, but I think he did work with me to pass some good budgets."
Clinton, however, praised his former adversary last November to NewsMax, saying, "I think he's doing well just because he's thinking, and people are hungry for ideas that make some sense."
Clinton also praised Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts in December, adding that it would be a "mistake" to underestimate him.
Clinton told Esquire that Republicans have been pushed farther to the right.
"Every time the president adopts a plan that they [Republicans] once advocated, they abandon it and push farther to the right," he said. "But the voters can push them back."
Gee, Time magazine giving Obama a front page puff piece while Newsweek's cover asks why Obama's critics are so dumb! Here we go again America! The left wing controlled media cranking up the propaganda machinery for the snake oil saleman they sold to you in 2008.
Problem is the entire has seen this failure in action. Most non-koolaide drinkers have smartened up and won't be played for suckers again.
Like I've said before, the economy may be issue #1, but the President has kept the country safe and has Al Queda on the run. Mitt can't say ish about that!!!
First Romney doesn’t know what Foreign policy mean . Obama will knock Romney out
give me a break, truth, what is truth. Romney is going to sell this nation to CHINA. Ships jobs to India, and China, and Pakistan, etc, Bain Capital proved. well done Obama on keystone, we DO NOT NEED OIL, WE NEED GREEN ENERGY. "GREEN-ENERGY". PERIOD. lobby, lobby, lobby by unions, Canadians, etc, nonsense. I vote for Obama2012.
PS: Enough selling nation by Reagan, and Bush.
truth and nothing but the truth you stated the only intelligent comment on this blog i cant wait tell election time lets see what the obama fan club has to say
@Truth – The "left wing media" myth again. Almost all media outlets are owned by public corporations that are organized for the purpose of making money. Are you saying that the shareholders of Time-Warner, Disney, GE, and Comcast are out to spread a liberal agenda. If they skew liberal, as you suggest, it would have to be because they think that is where the biggest audience is. I would say, by definition, they skew center. If the center looks left to you, that says more about how extreme you are than where the middle is.
BTW, the media outlet that is closely held is Fox. That one is the one that could skew toward its foreign owners' objectives.
@vic , nashville ,tn – I think you don't know nothing. Romney sure knows a hundred times more than President Obama. That's a sure thing. I can't wait to see Romney debate him.
If this is the best from the gop then they deserve to lose the WH, the House and more seats in the Senate until they groom qualified candiates. Qualifing President is not the same as taking money from American companies for tax safe havens out side America mr Romney. Thought you knew better...
Wait and you will see. The question is what will all the racists say. Birth certificate, muslim, hates whie people, all black people on welfare. Maybe u guys will invent something new.
hey diridi yea thats just what we need green jobs how many has obama created stupid maybe we need anorther failed solar plant or one that burns coal to generate electric or fourty thousand cars that get fourty miles to a single charge it to easy to make you and the rest of the obama fan club look stupid
You have accomplished what others couldn't in the best of times, and with a working
Obama 2012. Seriously America. Period.
Do any of Mitt's 5 healthy sons plan on joining the military to help fight these wars Mitt & the macho-Repubs. love so much ?
i dont personally care for any of the gop cadidates but anyone is better than that sorry excuse thats in there now oh wait i forgot there is no excuse for him

Oi vay.... The shareholders don't write the liberal garbage, the writers do. These outlets used to at least pretend to be unbiased. In 2008 they totally gave up the charade because it was far too obvious they were selling Obama to the country. Now with a front page on Newsweek that actually insults a majority of Americans, because a majority do NOT believe he deserves to be re-elected, they have proven once again how far to the left and out of touch they are. There is a reason these magazines readership has declined so much. They have turned themselves into left wing propaganda rags. Newsweek, the COMPANY, was bought for $1. far more than it was worth.
Romney Foreign Policy Attacks Will Wither in ‘Serious Debate’
Romney crumpled like a cheap import when he debated the GOP clowns.
He needs to go to temple and get the whole flock praying that he doesn't soil his magic underwear when he faces the indomitable Barack Obama.
I think u don't know nothing. Lol. Idiot. I bet you dont know why i repeated that line.
Think about this too.... The economy and lack of jobs is what EVERYBODY cares about foremost. So what is the emphasis here??? Foreign policy!!! A great way to AVOID Obama's FAILURES!
So Obama gets to talk about how well he kills people with drones, while getting to dodge the questions about all the jobs here he has killed.
I'm not sure why Obama needs a BILLION dollars to get re-elected when he gets all this FREE leftist propaganda.
tell me what is the truth? Cite credible sources for your "truth".
Road warrior, learn to speak clear English.
Your rambling makes you sound crazy.
I thought it was the majority that elected him, could you tell us liberals which majority does not want him relected? I thought the next election was in November 2012.
You have accomplished what others couldn't in the best of times, and with a working Congress. You have earned a second term for your relentless dedication to protect our country from domestic and international enemies, and save it's middle class.
You have my vote, and that of my entire family.
Obama 2012. Seriously America.
Truth and Nothing But the Truth
1. I assume you didn't read the entire article in that the President makes it clear that without a strong economy, our foreign policy long term is not going to be a strong as it could be.
2. I want you to show what accomplishments the GOP can run on. What have they done, both foreign and domestic policy in the last decade, can they point to that qualifies them to lecture anybody on any given subject?
3. Needs a billion dollars? Even if he does raise that amount, I don't see you complaining about the GOP and their Super-pacs. And it is those Super-pacs, unleased by Citizen United that the Robert 5 Supreme ct, that will have to be countered not only by money paying for ads, but money paying for organizing, phone-banking, canvassing, and registering voters.
You can't list any GOP successes. This whole thread and many others you haven't recited the history of the GOP successes in the last 30 years, or even the last 100. Why? Because they haven't had any during in the recent past. Demonization and screaming about libruls, socialist, marxist, the terrorist are gonna git us, etc. is all you have. (By the way, define what it means to be "leftist" and give a historical background on it).
Here are some of President Obama's success that he will be running on while dismantling Romney:
1. Passed HCR that 7 presidents fought for (both GOP and Democrat)
2. Repealed DADT
3. Passed START treaty that has removed loose nuclear material
4. Lily-Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
5. OBL is done. He ordered the Navy Seals (as he is commander in chief), so he does get credit.
6. Iraq War is over
7. Stopped 700,000 job/month loss and turned it into 22 straight months of private sector job gain, over 3 million jobs saved or created
8. Massive investments in clean energy and education
9. Updated CAFE standards (which the major car companies approved of) that will further help to end our oil addiction
10. Wall Street reform
Eisenhower – GOPer who built the interstate highway system. Any current GOPer proposing anything like that?
Teddy Roosevelt – broke up the monopolies and built the Panama Canal. Again, any current GOPers propsoing those?
You tell them Mr. President. No red or orange alerts every morning – no loud ignorant threats just quiet, brillant EXECUTION. Take that!
@ Jariv really I agree with you on one after watching last Monday debate I can’t wait to see Romney debate with Obama
