Why Gingrich 'open marriage' allegation may not scare off evangelicals

(CNN) – The ex-wife of a Republican politician alleges her then-husband asked if they could have an open marriage, so evangelical “values voters” rethink their support for him, right?

Not so fast, say some evangelical leaders and experts.

Because they're rubes that will buy about anything? Just look how GW Bush played them. You'd think they'd eventually catch on and wise up.

Our leaders should be of good moral character-the thought of Newt Gingrich as our president makes me ill-he is one of the most immoral politicians I can think of!

I much LESS object to Gingrich's open marriage allegations, than I do to Romney's hiding his money offshore, refusing to reveal his taxes now, and his overall hypocrisy-an ex-liberal now conservative for political convenience!

Because they use religion only when it's convenient and/or are the biggest hypocrites....

I can't stand people who cheat on their spouses or Newt for that matter – but listening to Marianne Gingrich, I must confess – she sounds a little nutty and "seems" to have some baggage in her own personal life. In any event, Newt is not presidential material.

I guess they feel that Newt's sins can be redeemed in the eyes of God, while Mitt's sins cannot.

Gingrich went after Clinton for the same things that we now know that he is guilty of. We really want a President that has been married three times and had affairs? I want a President that not only is a leader but has morals. I want a leader that knows both the private sector and how politics work.

I'm very surprised (NOT) at the liberals interest in what goes on in Newt's bedroom and love life. You are always yelling "stay out of our bedroom", yet you seem to have no trouble delving into Newt's and commenting. Hmmmm... more libtards hypocrisy at work??? NAHH!!!

And then there were all the defenses of Bill Clinton's cheating... "doesn't affect his job in the Whitehouse", "his own personal business", etc. Yeah, gotta love all the duplicitous libtards!

Jacki by the looks of it Newt knew a lot of privates that had little to do with any sector.

Gingrich wishes the media would focus on issues, not his affairs? He's "appalled"?? What about MonicaGate, when for YEARS then-Speaker Gingrich was doing EXACTLY the OPPOSITE - that's the definiton of hypocrisy, folks! - by focusing on Monica Lewinsky rather than the issues? AND he was cheating? AND he had a love child? AND he had that child ABORTED? All worse than Clinton, and all FACTS??

Newt is a loose cannon - but the religious right-wing nut-jobs don't care. Most of those men do the same things.

Because they all do dirt behind close doors. Newt dont know about family value. One of his ex wife was dying with cancer he ask her while she was in the hospital for a divorce that so dirty.
    Newt is not a christain.

Because they are all closet hypocrites like the rest of the "catholic" adulterers.

Newt Gingrich deserves all of the political fallout from his past hypocritical, adulterous actions, then and now. While Mr. Gingrich may be redeemed in the eyes of his God, politics follows an entirely different set of rules.

I wonder what he would have thought about Bill Clinton having an open marriage back when Bill was President and he was Speaker of the House. Strange, I don't recall him suggesting it?
