(CNN) – Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords announced on her website Sunday that she will resign from Congress this week to continue her recuperation from the brain injury she suffered when shot just over a year ago.
"A lot has happened over the past year. We cannot change that," Giffords says in a video on her website, speaking in a halting voice.
"Thank you for your prayers and for giving me time to recover," she says in the video. "I have more work to do on my recovery. So to do what is best for Arizona, I will step down this week."

Sorry to hear this but it sounds like she has her priorities straight. She could run again later and probably be elected. Get well Gabby and good luck.
This was something she should have done long before today. Her constituents haven't had any real representation since that tragedy. I wish her and her family nothing but the best, they seem like an incredible couple.

Heartbreaking...She is both sad & inspiring at the same time. She and her husband have served the country well. Now needs to be "her" time. She has made the right decision.

Even though I don't agree with Liberal Politicians. I wish her the very best. This was such a tradgedy for her and her family. She is a sweet lady and I pray for a full recovery for her.
Her decision to leave Congress is a casualty of democracy inflicted on America and Americans by radical republicans. It's a shame how those selfish and radical republicans have caused this loss.
