(CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said Monday he asked his former company, the Center for Health Transformation, to release its consulting contract with mortgage giant Freddie Mac.
But the former House speaker offered no firm answer on whether the documents would go public before Florida's primary on January 31.

"I'm very comfortable with it being released," Gingrich said on ABC's "Good Morning America," though adding the company had a "number of confidentiality agreements" to sort through.
His comments came one day after rival Mitt Romney catapulted a strong line of attack against Gingrich in Florida, blasting the former speaker as a corrupt Washington insider who bungled his time in Congress and resigned "in disgrace."
Romney also re-launched criticism of Gingrich's time as a consultant with Freddie Mac, calling on the candidate to release records of his contract with the agency in which he made at least $1.6 million during two different time periods (1999 to 2002 and 2006 to 2008).
Despite his opponents' claims, Gingrich maintains he did no lobbying of any kind and reiterates most of the income paid for overhead and staff at his firm.
"Romney keeps using the word lobbyist, I'm sure, because his consultants tell him it scores well," Gingrich said Monday. "It's not true. He knows it's not true. He's deliberately saying things he knows are false."
Saying it would be "very helpful" to have the Freddie Mac records released, Gingrich confirmed his attorneys were talking with the company but said ultimately it was up to the firm, not his campaign, to make the decision.
He then pivoted to Romney, saying if anyone needs to be more open, it was his presidential opponent.
"Here's somebody who has released none of his business records, who has decided to make a stand on transparency without being transparent," Gingrich said.
The South Carolina primary winner repeatedly called on Romney to release his tax returns last week, yet failed to prompt a strong commitment from the former governor to do so before the primary ended.
Romney announced this weekend, however, he will release his tax returns on Tuesday, one week before Florida's primary.

Ethics penalty 'reimbursement,' says Gingrich
Hey, Newt... If you want to show how honest your are – give the US House of Representatives your approval to release their investigation from the 1990's when you were removed as house speaker and fined $300k. Last I heard you said you would file suit against anyone who release any information about the investigation. I suppose there is quite a tale to tell but you need to say the word so we get a chance to judge for ourselves.
He is going to bring change to Wahington? NOT
Who gives a hoot, the entire GOP field is Nit-wits....Easy win for Obama.....
Gee thats strange, he doesn't have a copy. If I have a contract i always keep a copy, unless they are busy changing it.
Makes you wonder!!!
Too often people try to make something okay by simply using an alternative definition. By calling a person caught during military operation in a foreign country an "enemy combatant" we can ignore the Geneva Convention. Newt calling himself a "consultant" rather than a "lobbyist" he attempts to explain away the money he made peddling his influence. A pig is still a pig...
Just saw a CNN survey that asked if Gingrich would be the Republican to face President Obama and 73% of the people that responded said "NO". Newt supporters need to realize that he is like a YoYo. He has his ups and downs and more downs than ups. Newt is like a video of a building being imploded that is hung in a continous loop. He can't help himself. Every so often he has to pull his own pin and blow himself up. He would be that kind of a president too and that is why Republicans want so much to find anyone else to beat him because they know President Obama would eat Newt for lunch and spit out the bones.
It seems the strong GOP canidates did not want to take a chance at losing to Obama in 2012 so they sent these guys in...What a weak field of pretenders...
While Newt stands very little chance of being elected POTUS, he does stand a good chance of being elected the President of Pluto.
Newt has turned into a solidly BAD candidate. He will assure 4 more years of Obama!
I'll give up anything, because I believe I'm the king of all I see. My ego, is so much larger than the known universe. The amount of truth coming from my mouth is so small, Yet, I'm the king of the world, and if elected you will all bow before me. My ethics, should never be questioned. My polarizing personality, and propensity to argue, even if wrong makes me attractive to those with learning disabilities, and skulls thicker than boiler plate. I'm King I tell you. KING. And the very minute you get sick, I'll abandon you like yesterdays empty Cheeseburger wrapper. VOTE FOR ME.
The Gingrich Formula – truth be damned, attack, attack, attack, early and often. Do not waste time explaining positions to people who need to ask questions. Attack them for being unable to understand and attack them as anti-American. We eat this stuff up!
Romney lost to Newt is embrassing.....He can't beat a guy who resigned "in disgrace from office....Rommey love with the wealthy has caught up with him....
Did anyone get Newt's approval about looking into this? He does run the Media , doesn't he??
