Did Obama really make government bigger?

New York (CNNMoney) - President Obama = big government.

Or so say the Republican presidential candidates. Newt Gingrich has labeled him the "food stamp president" for expanding entitlements, while Mitt Romney has said the size of the federal government has "exploded" under Obama.

Were they asleep during the Bush years? No, ending a war that cost trillions did not "explode" government. It's all catch phrases to rile up their idiot base.

That depends on how you measure it. Has the annual deficit increased during the Obama administration? Not really, the last year of the Bush administration had a $1.5 trillion deficit. Has annual government spending increased during the Obama administration? Yes, mostly due to increased numbers of people seeking entitlement relief put out of work during the economic downturn. Are there more people working for the government under the Obama administration? Yes, but it grew in the very areas where conservatives accuse Pres. Obama of ignoring.

Has government grown under the Obama administration? Not as fast as it did under Bush-43, Bush-41 or Reagan.

This is so upsetting to me. Our leaders are so out of touch and Gingrich really proves it. I am mad not for the president but for the people that Gingrich would serve as president. He is insulting those millions that are suffering in our country and then suggesting its Obamas fault. The majority of Americans that are on food stamps and welfare I am sure are not proud of having to use government programs. I think it's even more disgusting that these guys running for President call themselves Christians. They dirty the name of Christ with their attacks on people in poverty. They seek to glorify wealth and ego rather then lift the poor and struggling in our nation. They sling mud and insults at each other rather then try to work together to better our nation. None of these guys deserve to lead our nation. I cannot say I Love Obama. I am not a Liberal or Conservitive. I am an American!!! Our problems fall on the backs of our two party broken system that limits our choices and thus limits our future. Obama was dealt an unfair hand. But let's be honest the hand he was dealt was decades in the making. I dream of the impossible..... I dream of honest leaders.....I feel strongly that Americas hardships are far from over. This supposed recovery is upsurd and false. The USA is facing much bigger issues then our present issues. We are not securing a future for our energy needs and we are losing the war for future resources with China. Read Red Alert. It's alarming.

Did Obama really make government bigger? Not only did he make government bigger; he wants to continue making it even bigger. After all, these "dolers?" as well as the welfare crowd, will feel obligated to support his idiotic policies (Dominican Mama for Obama?) during the 2012 election.

America, don't be fooled by the smoke and mirrors, AGAIN! We DO NOT need four more years of lies and divisive politics.

Google recession and spending by President. It's not magic, it's fact. Every President in History that inherited a recession/depression, had to spend their way out of it. The only time we didn't, the radicals stripped government down, and cut spending. The consequences of that was the biggest depression in history. "If you fail to read your history books, you will be forced to vote republican forever". Why is this so hard to get across? Why are people fighting our President, no matter what side they think they are on, or more importantly, what color they are. This guy has managed to keep the ship from sinking without half of the tools he could have to get us back to work. With the GOP hell bent on getting him out of office, there is a giant conflict of interest with the congress and the people. Do they do the right thing and help this president get us out of this economic nightmare, or do they continue to do the things that make the economy worse. I was a republican for over half of my life, but I cannot support the GOP and their radical racist tea party ways.

The fact is Obama has made the Government smaller, faster, efficient and effective to the needs of the American people. The right-wing brahahh of big government, overspending doesn't match with facts.

Pres. Obama was forced to make the Gov. how it is now according to what he was handed over. Who in the right thinking could let his people die of hunger and still call himself a leader?????

"as well as the welfare crowd"

And not a single person on 'welfare' is poor, white, and a Republican....hmmmmm.....Romney and Newt on banking on poor, whites, on welfare, who for some reason still vote Republican while Democrats send them food stamps.

  15. The GOP opens mouth and inserts foot

Reagan and Bush II turned the government into this hulking behemoth that doesn't work. Obama is trying to take that mess and fix it by using what resources are there.

The GOP wants a huge government that dictates every moment of everyone's life. The Democrats want a government that's there to help people when they need it. Democrats are right, GOP is wrong.
