Gingrich: Pelosi lives in land of 'strange fantasies'

(CNN) – The feud between two former House speakers continued Wednesday, with Newt Gingrich pushing back against Nancy Pelosi's claims that Gingrich "will never" win the White House.

"She lives in a San Francisco environment of very strange fantasies and very strange understandings of reality," Gingrich said on NBC's "Today." "I have no idea what's in Nancy Pelosi's head."

The House minority leader strongly insisted Tuesday night on CNN's "John King, USA" that Gingrich could never become president, saying he's done "plenty of dumb things."

"There's something I know, the Republicans, if they chose to nominate him, that's their prerogative. I don't even think that's going to happen," Pelosi warned.

Her comments set off a firestorm of speculation over whether Pelosi was implying she knew something about the candidate that could potentially damage his candidacy. The inflection in her voice, however, indicated she felt strongly that Gingrich was not qualified for the Oval Office.

Asked Wednesday morning about the interview, Gingrich said if Pelosi was hiding something she should name it.

"I have a simple challenge: Spit it out," Gingrich said.

Pelosi confirmed Wednesday that Pelosi was simply suggesting she believed Gingrich to be unelectable.

“Any reference I would make to the Ethics Committee is confined to the public record," Pelosi said in a statement.

Pelosi made headlines in December when she said in an interview that she had information on Gingrich that would be released "when the time's right."

Her office later clarified her remarks, saying Pelosi was referring to the public record on Gingrich's 1997 ethics violation in the House, the records of which are online.

The House minority leader's name is frequently used as an attack line against Gingrich on the campaign trail, with rivals blasting the former speaker for pairing up with Pelosi in a 2008 commercial urging the country to "take action" on climate change.

Gingrich has repeatedly described the commercial as "the dumbest" move he's made in recent years.

For all you Obama lovers/ Newt haters...Take a look at todays editorial in the Investor's Business Daily ...."Gingrich vs Alinsky". Don't worry , you wont grow horns by just reading one article from a newspaper that promotes capitalism. It lays out the path going forward from the "eyes" of both candidates. No question which path I will take or promote. How about you?

Newt has a way of twisting history to his advantage. Much less fact in it and much more fantasy of what might have been. He has focused on unimportant issues that draw contrasts between liberals and conservatives (prayer in school divides, but has no connection to any of the problems we face currently) and he paints the liberals as the problem. He demonizes his opponents in the same way that Hitler and the Nazis demonized Jews,Gypsies, Slavs and homosexuals. Is this useful in a debate to determine who has the best ideas to help solve our nations problems? No, not in any way. Does Newt care? No, not in any way.
Newt is short on ideas and long on grant statements, of "contracts", blaming others for problems he had a hand in and taking credit for doing things that he had actually opposed.
If you want war, more money going to the wealthiest, the middle class becoming poor and the collapse of this country – well, Newt is the one to vote for. Newt is one who can do the most to this country. If you don't believe me – just ask Newt.

So say the man with 3 wives and a desire for an 'open' marriage and a delusion that his immorality, lying and megalomania make him a shoo in for President. Strange understanding of reality, indeed.

Newt is beginning to show his true colors. It's OK for him to degrade others but when it comes to him doing the exact same thing it's wrong for us to want to know about it. Double standards, hyprocrit, and so many other sad character flaws. He would ruin the US if he bacame President. He is a dangerous power hungry blowhard. If he gets the Republican nod then hopefully the voters will realize we have no choice but to re-elect Obama, who at least has made an effort to make good on his campaign promises and has successfully done some of them. Newt is a very bad choice for the GOP. He speaks well, but can't walk the talk.

Let's keep this Newt train moving!! I hope that chubby little guy keeps winning and gets the nomination, he is dividing the right (LR/RR) so when the election comes there will be no united voice. Obama Rocks! it's a big ship to turn out of W's mess and he is finally getting traction!

All you lefty's are sure confident Newt can't win anything. Well why don't you get off this Liberal blog here at CNN and go post your nonsense and worn out Democrat talking points and go to a conservative website, say, Investors Business Daily and see how long you can survive on that site. You will be eaten alive with the stupid comments you post here.

I have yet to hear from anybody who was in the House when Newt was speaker who has anything positive to say about him. If he was that bad a leader as Speaker, what would he be like as President?

I'd rather deal with Nancy's "strange fantasies" than Newt's. I shudder to think of what that might entail.

Shocking, I say! Shocking!!! So John King couldn't get Nancy Pelosi on his show fast enough after that spankin Newt gave him on national T.V.!!!
King's already worried about his career after that embarrassment, instead of becoming involved in something no more relevent than a reality show, he should focus on bringing value back to his career at CNN, while he still has one!

Well Newt, You live in a strange fantasy land too. A land where lies are truths, hypocrisy is a virtue, and personal attacks are fine, unless they're directed at you, then you play a victim. The land Pelosi is from is called CALIFORNIA, maybe you've heard of it? It's the most populous state, that carries 1/3 the GDP of our country, and has the most electoral votes. No president has ever been elected after insulting California. Some call California a fantasy land, but that's because you can do anything here, and its a very free state. Something that obviously scares you. Good luck with your run.

Look, Newt LOVES marriage as much as you do. He just can't make up his mind on WHO he wants it to be with. Please give him the benefit of the doubt. Not everybody finds their soulmate the first time, or second time, or third time... But you have to give him high grades on his persistence!

Maybe he does not what's in Ms. Pelosi's head, but I've got a good idea what's in his: an inflated sense of self-worth and large amounts of excrement.

To bring out all that anger, namecalling, and AK steve look at those posts and then come back and tell us who are the namecallers and the ones with the personal attacks, that's all you liberals have left, you love Pelosi who is worth between 100 to 150 million, nobody knows, it's a secret, had the water cut off to farmers so her vineyard had all the water she needed. Urges everyone to approve bills without reading, none affect her, as long she gets her Botox treatments on time, plus I'm still waiting for her to clean the swamp as promised, Waters, Rangle etc. oh sorry I forgot they are democrats and the are as white as new fallen snow.

A land of strange fantasies? I live in SF, and the only strangeness going on around me is extreme unemployment, homelessness, public schools that are a disgrace, hard working Americans not able to keep up with the price of gas or food, and necessary public services that seem to have just disappeared. I think Newt Gingrich might want to come here and see what we see everyday. There isn't much to fantasize about, except the hope of a "clean sweep" in Washington D.C. that includes both parties. Newt Gingrich owes San Franciscans an apology!

I'm sure there are plenty of skeletons in Ms. Pelosi's closet too. Maybe the Republicans should start letting them out.

The most obvious takeaway here is that Pelosi is intentionally giving Gingrich a boost with the right wing base. Why step up and pick a fight with him now, before the nomination is decided? A smart politician (and yes, she is one) knows that moving their own supporters is only one part of their influence. It's almost easier to move the people who hate your guts and I'd say it looks like Pelosi would be happy to keep moving GOP primary voters into Newt's corner.
