Gingrich: Pelosi lives in land of 'strange fantasies'

(CNN) – The feud between two former House speakers continued Wednesday, with Newt Gingrich pushing back against Nancy Pelosi's claims that Gingrich "will never" win the White House.

"She lives in a San Francisco environment of very strange fantasies and very strange understandings of reality," Gingrich said on NBC's "Today." "I have no idea what's in Nancy Pelosi's head."

The House minority leader strongly insisted Tuesday night on CNN's "John King, USA" that Gingrich could never become president, saying he's done "plenty of dumb things."

"There's something I know, the Republicans, if they chose to nominate him, that's their prerogative. I don't even think that's going to happen," Pelosi warned.

Her comments set off a firestorm of speculation over whether Pelosi was implying she knew something about the candidate that could potentially damage his candidacy. The inflection in her voice, however, indicated she felt strongly that Gingrich was not qualified for the Oval Office.

Asked Wednesday morning about the interview, Gingrich said if Pelosi was hiding something she should name it.

"I have a simple challenge: Spit it out," Gingrich said.

Pelosi confirmed Wednesday that Pelosi was simply suggesting she believed Gingrich to be unelectable.

“Any reference I would make to the Ethics Committee is confined to the public record," Pelosi said in a statement.

Pelosi made headlines in December when she said in an interview that she had information on Gingrich that would be released "when the time's right."

Her office later clarified her remarks, saying Pelosi was referring to the public record on Gingrich's 1997 ethics violation in the House, the records of which are online.

The House minority leader's name is frequently used as an attack line against Gingrich on the campaign trail, with rivals blasting the former speaker for pairing up with Pelosi in a 2008 commercial urging the country to "take action" on climate change.

Gingrich has repeatedly described the commercial as "the dumbest" move he's made in recent years.

Gingrich despises Pelosi because she was the most effective Speaker of the House since Sam Rayburn. He also despises her because he agreed to make that 'climate change' video with her a few years ago. He knew it was the right thing to do then, and he still knows it today. Now, it hurts him politically with his empty-headed extreme base, so he's attacking her.

@ John in Brooklyn- You better stop drinking the leftist kool-aid. Your state (California) is so far underwater due to its left leaning and promoted policies set by the democrats that to blame Arnold and the GOP is akin to thinking heroin is good for you because it makes you feel good. California is the ultimate blue state where promises and payments ( entitlements) were made to keep the party in power. Is that why people should be elected... so they can stay in power regardless of the ruin the cause ? Man... you dems need to flush out your system and statrt drinking water! No wonder this country is heading for the dumpster.

Hey CNN, thanks for trying to clarify her remarks by giving us the audio to defend her. The "Inflection" I heard was similar to her outright threat that she had information about him that the public was not privy to.

Ms. Pelosi is a dispicable politician who obviously believes we are stupid. This is disgusting slander and Newt is right for calling her out on it. The news media should call her out but instead they cover for her and the rest of the Dems. Everything you need to know about her was revealed when during the prolonged Health Care debate she said (paraphrasing) We will have to pass the bill so you can see whats in it.

All politicians are hypocritical double dealing slimeballs but the Democrats are by far the best politicians. I'll take the Republicans. Nov. can't come fast enough.

@ NIck – You are absolutely Spot On ! I firmly believe that will happen sometime around 2 weeks before the election, possibly 1 week before the election, Nacy will bury him, count on it. I really liked her, when she was speaker – to be honest – Hope she gets back to that position. Believe me, she will bury him – lol – he's Not going to be the nominee – He will go down faster than that Italian guy – that was captain on that ship .

Newt will not do well anywhere except in the southern evangelical Bible belt. People in that belt are simply not going to vote for a Mormon.

Is it unclear that Nancy Pelosi is manipulating Republican rubes? Her comment is likely to raise the ire of the rightwingnuttery, aid Gingrich in getting the nomination and give the White House, the House and the Senate to Democrats after Gingrich implodes the entire GOP ticket.

Gingrich maxed out his Reality Credit Card when he was speaker, and hasn't made one single payment on it since then. What a blow-hard.

Newt is one nasty piece of work. At least Nancy wasn't thrown out as speaker by her own party as was Gingrich. It is a sad state of affairs (oops, didn't mean to mention "affairs") when Newt Gingrich has a national following.

If there is any "dirt" to be exposed here, it is how much money Pelosi and her family members made off of their inside trading! Didn't they just sentence some guy to 10 years for this sort of thing??? I want to see ALL of Pelosi's tax returns for her entire stint in Congress. Is it any wonder her husband is a multi-millionaire. How much of it was gotten with insider knowledge???

Pelosi is a wicked and wretched woman. She'd be perfect for none other than a role as the wicked witch in a remake of Wizard of Oz.

Could you please read about Newt's ethics violation before spewing your disdain for him. He was fined 300k for not cooperating with an invastigation where he was cleared of any wrong doing. He did not break any election laws nor was he charged with any crime.

We in the San Francisco Bay Area do have this "strange fantasy" that all people are created equal, something the Republicans can't quite come to grips with.

This is a good one. Pelosi criticizes Gingrich and Gingrich criticizes San Francisco. Presidential material?? I don't think so.

Of course Pelosi has no yearning to fill the American people in, unless of course it served her political agenda. It would ruin her feeling of being in control.

    San Francisco-
House minority Leader Nancy Pelosi alluded that "she knows something" that would prevent GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich from capturing the White House. Alighting from her broom, the former House Speaker confirmed that she and three fellow house members had been "locked up" in an undisclosed location for a year investigating Mr. Gingrich. Speaking on anonymity, a fellow house member confirmed " Yeah, I was with Nancy those glorious 365 days, but not much came of it. As far as these new allegations against Newt, I'm not sure what Nancy is talking about, she tends to speak in tongues at times--maybe the effect of the herb and batwing concoction she takes regularly."
A spokesman for Ms. Pelosi confirmed that " a complete report of ethical transgressions against Mr. Gingrich will be released as soon as Ms. Pelosi concludes her tour of antique cauldrons in Salem. Massachusetts."

Pelosi is very clever. She has Gingrich going over and over in his head which one of the many dumb things he has done that Pelosi can reveal to stop him from being President. There are so many that Gingrich's brain will overload and shut down completely trying to figure it out. He may even go so far as to start blurting out things in public while trying to get Pelosi to react.

Gingrich may be 68 but his acts like that little child Palin. Has got to respond to every single critic with insults. More reason that Gingrich doesn't have Presidential qualities. He's a Pious jackbutt.

I think it's a travesty of American politics that either one of these two were speaker of the House. They both live in a fantasy world.

I expected the comments on this liberal news page to be what they are but all politics aside, liberal or Conservative what if someone from the right had threatened to ruin another person's life ON TELEVISION? Is that ok? When did threatening people in a public forum become OK??? What sort of sick and sadistic society does the Left indulge in. I have yet to make up my mind who i want to vote for but for the love of the humanity this woman needs to be dealt with in a LEGAL fashion for threatening someone else's well being. ITS WRONG!!!!
