Gingrich campaign admits error

politicalmugshot

(CNN) - Newt Gingrich's campaign admitted Wednesday night the former House speaker was inaccurate when he claimed his team offered several witnesses to ABC News to refute statements made by Gingrich's second wife in a controversial interview aired last week.

CNN Chief National Correspondent John King reported the campaign said it only recommended Gingrich's two daughters from his first marriage, who wrote a letter discouraging ABC to release the interview.

Marianne Gingrich claimed in the ABC interview that her husband asked for an open marriage while he was having an extramarital affair with his current wife, Callista Gingrich.

"The story was false. Every personal friend I have who knew us in that period says the story is false. We offered several of them to ABC to prove it was false. They weren't interested," Gingrich said at a CNN debate last week.

In an interview on Tuesday, King pressed Gingrich on those claims, saying ABC News insisted no such witnesses were put forward.

Gingrich said ABC's defense was "just plain baloney."

"If they're saying that, then they're not being honest," Gingrich said. "We had several people prepared to be very clear and very aggressive in their dispute about that, and (ABC News) wasn't interested."

On Wednesday, however, the campaign conceded the candidate was wrong, both in his debate answer and in his interview with CNN on Tuesday.

R.C. Hammond, the campaign's press secretary, told CNN the only people the campaign offered to ABC were the speaker's two daughters, Jackie Cushman and Kathy Gingrich Lubbers, who make regular appearances for their father on the campaign trail.

I think this should be this week's first question so Newt can blow up again at CNN!

This is no surprise....Newt has a habit of saying people are lying about this and that. As time has shown he has been wrong. I think he found loopholes galore in the lobbying issue. Time will show this to be true also. Keep digging people, this man has no integrity. It is all about being President, a medal for him.

Another claim by Gingrich that he later has to take back. It doesn't matter though because when people were listening, he lied and take his word for it. It is time to hold these politicians' words accountable.

One more reason to NOT vote for Gringrich. I noticed in the last debate that he would not answer tough questions, but instead said they were based on "misinformation" and that he would put the answers on his website. I recently saw an interview where Gingrich was defending his hypocrisy in the '90's when he went after Clinton for his infidelity. Gingrich said it wasn't the infidelity, it was because Clinton lied about it. Well, here is proof that Gingrich is not a "changed man" but is a liar now as he always has been.

amazing, isn't it ? the newter hurts himself, everytime he speaks. It's too bad the Republicans are going the wayside. In about 4 to 8 years, the republicans really won't want to be 'labeled' that – I talk to republicans all the time, and they tell me that would rather be labeled (or called) or reffered to as : "Conservatives" they actually hate the word 'republicans'

I never believed he offered up "friends" who would state Marianne Gingrich's claims were false. How would friends of the family know what conversation took place between Newt and Marianne 20 years ago? These claims didn't come out until now....not 20 years ago. As usual, it is Newt who is "full of baloney". Next thing you know he will be pulling a "Herman Cain" and drop out of race because he doesn't "want to put my family through this anymore".

Let me get this straight: Gingrich has to rely on his campaign staff to tell him how many witnesses he has to refute his ex-wife's allegations about their marriage? What would it say about me, if I had to rely on my employees to tell the world about my marriage because I got the facts wrong? This is not about truth. Gingrich is obviously concerned about managing the facade of his public image. He is just trying to coordinate his lies and he can't do that as well as he would like. Do you really want this man for president?

    So the lesson is....

If you're going to lie, lie big in front of a big national audience and then, only if you're absolutely forced, have some else admit the 'mistake' to a much smaller news market several days afterwards and hope it stays buried in the small arena.

(Note that the headline reads "Gingrich campaign admits error" not that Gingrich lied twice in front of a national audience.)

That Gingrich has lied once more is no news; as a serial adulterer all through his life, and as a self-aggrandizing politician, he has made lying his second nature, it seems. The irony is that the party that preaches and claims conservative, family values should even consider this person as its bellwether.

"RC was briefing me on this the whole way through". So here's the question. Was Gingrich lying, hoping it would go away, or is he SO ineffective at management that he didn't have his facts straight about an issue in the forefront? If he said it wrong as he was unjustly attacking John King, he should have found out immediately after the debate and offered an apology or at least correction, right then. Personally, without having a staffer take the heat. This guy is a "leader"? I have no respect for him, and no trust of him.

It's interesting to see how Gingritch rattles off statements with such conviction that people assume he's correct even when he is not. Only later when the facts are irrefutable does he back off.

This is what Newt is best at. Is this bringing back any memories of his Speaker of the House days? He knows he can say something completly outragous for his own good, and then retract it a couple days later where it gets buried. They called his ethics into question... there should be no doubt as to why they voted yes... and no reason to believe they wouldn't have voted yes even if his story is true (highly doubtful) that he encouraged them to vote yes.

Gingrich is a liar and cheat. Who knew?

Marianne Gingrich's story may or may not be accurate for any number of valid, non-deliberate reasons. It was a while ago, it was a emotionally charged time, etc. Newt doesn't contest her story based on these things. Instead he goes striaght for the "She is a malicious liar" defense. Nice.

Also, how can "personal friends" refute Marianne Gingrich's claims? To do so, they would have to be with her and Newt for every conversation between and that's patently ridiculous.

Mr. Gingrich is the worst sort of self-aggrandizing opportunist. John King withered in front of Gingrich's self-righteous rage at the SC debate, where he (King) had the golden opportunity to press harder and expose NG for the liar he is. The latest story of King's journalistic rehabilitation is welcome, but a little late. That pee stain on his trousers may fade, but it won't wash out. He was a weenie, plain and simple.

I am sorry that NG's daughters have so little regard for themselves that they would defend their father's reprehensible marital record. Have they forgotten that he also dishonored their mother? That said, they are satisfying one of my goals for the 2012 campaign. I want Republican primary voters continue voting for NG as the Romney alternative and hand him their Party's nomination.

    Then ... Obama 2012!

There is a lot about this man that scares me........ he spews the right words, but deep down I believe he thinks he is Napolian and is here to save the world.......... He believes he is just and righteous by saying he has made mistakes and that he is sorry... but forgiveness is in God's eyes and we mere mortals base a man on what he does forward and this man scares the living hell out of me and I have voted Republican for over 40 years........... I will change my vote if this man becomes our canidate for the first time in my life time........ As a side note how would Gingrich's daughters know what this man was doing in his private time, did he tell his daughters every time he met with his mistress? So how can they be witness to his reasons to divorce his second wife?

Another solid indication of the character (or complete lack thereof) from Gingrich. How the GOP can consider him a viable candidate for president is beyond understanding. This is the sort of reporting that should be all over the place. When this issue was brought up at the debate, the crowd went wild when Gingrich asserted that he had several people who would deny that the story was true. Now it turns out that there isn't anyone who would do that. Gingrich's daughters encouraging ABC News to kill the story is not denying its truthfulness, just that they don't wan the public to know what a lowlife their father is.

Is it possible that so many Americans want a serial-adulterer and his home-wrecker, former mistress to represent the country they argue is so exceptional?

Well....maybe they've got a point. One would hope that the level of deceit, lack of morals and ethics, and hubris that Gingrich exhibits is the exception, rather than the norm, for Americans.

Gingrich needs to publicly state that he was wrong with his statements and his defense. He essentially accused ABC of lying...when in fact the lie was on his part. For a candidate to go on national TV and in a debate say one thing and score political points for it and then the campaign quietly correcting his false statements is downright shameful. Gingrich shows the all the signs of a kingman. And we know what happens when kingmen become powerful. He sounds like a Korihor.

Really? I thought forgiveness of sins required also restitution... Just because YOU say, you are forgiven, doesn't make it so. I'm not saying he's not repentant, he might be. However, the fact is, Newt LIES, AND LIES, AND LIES. He is NOT an honest individual, and this comes from his personal life. This man scares the hell out of me........... I believe he thinks he is the next coming of Napolian and that as long as he states that he is righteous and sorry for past mistakes that we will think better of him. He has been forgiven in the eyes of God that I believe, but we mere mortals will jidge him on this CONSTANT PAST and his furure acts...... I have voted Republican for over 40 years and if he is our canidate I will change my vote..... I do not understand how his daughters can speak for him....... did he confide in them every time he met with his mistress and discuss his personal sexual deeds with them so that they would know that it was his ex-wife who was the problem ... and if so this speaks volumes about his children and the way he raised them.......... sorry but he is not the man who needs to be the head of this country......

The thing is unless they were in the room with Newt and Marianne when it was discussed then their saying its true means nothing. I am sure Newt told them it wasn't true whether it was or it wasn't, because he wouldn't want them to think any less of their father and I highly doubt that either he or Marianne would have wanted anyone else present when they were discussing this and certainly not his children (it doesn't matter how old your children are – when you're discussing stuff like this you do not want them (or for that matter anyone) around).

Like anyone would believe his two daughters who are on Daddy's payroll and would be dis-loyal to their own mother by claiming their father did not ask her for a divorce in the hospital. Unless they were a party to the conversation I would rather hear the events from a first hand source. Why wife #2 pretends to be so shocked at Newt's open marriage request is a puzzle as she was a mistress herself. When she moved on to wife, she left a job opening in the mistress deptartment which Calista the church going Catholichypocrit would fill for 8 years. What is in the drinking water of Republicans, first Palin flaunting her pregnant teenage daughter, now this serial groom. If someome had told me 10 years ago we would have a black man as President and his opponents would be scandalous I would have had them locked away.

I am surprised that no one has yet called him on one of his biggest lies that he repeats on every stump. That "as Speaker" that he personally "led the Congress to four straight years of balanced budgets." First of all, it was only three years. Worst of all, he was gone by the time most of that took place. Newt didn't see the Congress in 1999. We had balanced budgets in FY1999, FY2000, and FY2001. Gingrich is lying, but I know that the DNC will let him live it up until he wins the nomination.

Is gingrich also ready to admit his "error" regarding his comment calling Pres. Obama "the food stamp president"?

He is also inaccurate in that claim. The truth of the matter is that more Americans receive the benefit of food stamps (46.2 million) than ever before. This is a function of the economy. But, 14.2 million more Americans enjoy the benefit of food stamps since Obama took office. During the Bush administration, food stamp eligibility was expanded, and 14.7 million more Americans were added. So the Obama administration, during the worst recession since the Great Depression, saw 500K fewer additions than in the Bush administration.

It appears that being "inaccurate" comes as easily as breathing to mr. gingrich. Here in the real world I'd call it lying.

That is wrong. He's a man who has this idea that gays being allowed to marry is a bad thing because it ruins the sanctity of marriage. Newt has done more to ruin the sanctity of marriage than most gays would. It's hypocrisy at it's finest.

So Newt, don't try to convince us that your marital affairs aren't important, when family values are a foundation of your campaign. Not to mention how badly you went after Clinton. Suddenly, it's not important.

Newt the hypocrite. He tries to convince us that his affairs aren't important, that they don't apply to his run for presidency. Need I remind you how bad he went after Bill Clinton? Apparently, marital affairs were bad for the President then, but aren't important now. Hypocrite.

Add all of this into the fact that one foundation of Newt's campaign is family values. How can you honestly expect us to believe that LGBT shouldn't be allowed to marry because it ruins the sanctity of marriage, when you have done so yourself repeatedly? You try to tell us it isn't relevant. Oh Newt, it certainly is. Hypocrisy at it's finest.

Come on Newt, do you really expect us to take anything you say at face value? You're a politician which means there is a good chance you're lying if your lips are moving.

So, in a debate, which was done solely to garner support in an upcoming state primary, he goes on the offensive, feigning anger at someone who dares question him, by saying something he knew to be false. thus looking good in front of an audience. then, in the comfort and privacy of his campaign headquarters issues a retraction. If he is truly sorry for the "misunderstanding" he should, at the next debate, apologize to THAT audience. Go public with his mea culpa. But doing that, those on the fence would have a reason to take what he is saying with a grain of salt.

One more reason to NOT vote for Gringrich. I noticed in the last debate that he would not answer tough questions, but instead said they were based on "misinformation" and that he would put the answers on his website. The GOP will lose if they put Gingrich to run agains Obama. Eventhough I like Santorum as a person, Romney is the only logical choice.

LOL! Obama is gonna mop and wax the floor with the GOP's "only logical choice!" These are the weakest and worse GOP presidential candidates to ever run. Newt is a lying, carnival barking blowhard; Romney (Mr. One Percent; logical choice, lol) is a greedy, lying, flip flopper who has absolutely nothing in common with everyday Americans; Santorum is a right winged, bigoted, religous zealot and extremist; and poor old Ron Paul is certifiably insane with his out-of-touch 19th century ideology. I can't believe anyone is surprised that Gingrich lied, then lied to try to cover up the first lie, then lied to try to cover up the cover-up, then... well, it goes on ad nauseam - nothing new there, but what's the story with that fiberglass-haired beanpole store-mannequin in the oh-so-'80s red "Power" dress and the painted-on smile they prop up on stage with him - always one step to the side, two steps back? Don't tell me that's a human - the thing hasn't changed expression since its first appearance.

So sorting out the lies and inaccuracies, Newt's Family Values Stand is that gay marriage is a sin, but an "open" marriage is all jake to the angels? I only hope he picks Bachmann as a running mate, so we get to see them BOTH go down in flames.

Additionally, make sure he tries not to A) Attack the media for the problem that is his and his alone and B) Make sure he does not try to use the "I'm a grandfather" line as a way to suggest that grandparents cannot be immoral and bad role models. Gingrich wants us to believe he is in the mold of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher... both role models for the right. How can anyone consider a President Gingrich as a role model given his background of philandering and his taking the vow of marriage as insincere as possible? How can we expect him to defend marriage when he has thumbed his nose at it.... not in the divorce, but in his desire to have an open marriage of infidelity while remaining married to a woman with MS? How is THIS form of marriage paramount and gay marriage is forbidden? WOLF- DON"T LET NEWT ESCAPE TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS ISSUE. HE WILL HAVE TO ANSWER IT AND IT IS BETTER NOW THAN LATER!

On another note: The Republican Party has just sent the President, Barack Obama, a note congratulating him on his second term and notifying him that all Republicans with an I.Q. over 25 will not be voting in the upcoming presidential election due to a lack of any viable candidates worthy of a vote!!!!

Its official! Newt says whatever he thinks sounds good whether its true or not. Reminds me of Stephen Colbert but he makes no clain to ever be telling the truth. If I was Obama, I'd refuse to debate him unless Colbert was also was on the stage to be the perfect twin of Newt's "Fabrication Nation".

    Serial Liar

This is a presidential candidate who has a history of being a serial Liar. No wonder he made history being the ONLY house speaker in American history to be 'BOOTED' out of congress for ethic violation...this includes him being a LIAR!

He is a serial liar...a serial Hypocrite according to Ron Paul.

This is the Karl Rove style of politics...lie, lie and lie some more, until people believe it...then when your caught in your lies, you offer a back door apology, but the damage has been done...all the Faux News followers repeat the same lies, so the lies are taken as fact by all of the Tea Baggers and ignorant GOP sheep, even though it is a lie. Gingrich = Surrender of moral authority on "Family Values" to Obama and the Democrats. Imagine in your mind –the image of the first Family –Barack and Michele and their adorable daughters– juxtaposed against Newt and Calista. All the grandiose ideas and clever debating skills will never wipe away that contrasting image! I cannot understand how we Republicans think for a moment that is a winning hand. Newt would like to talk his way out of a dishonest lack of individual moral character that he acted himself into repeatedly over a sustained period of time (6 years with Calista, and several more with Marianne before that). Newt would have us believe that there is nothing here –just "pain" and "divorce" something common to many and to someone that all of us know. But there is no personal dishonesty in 'pain' or even in 'divorce' –those are not the real issues. The real issue, which Newt would like to hide through smoke and mirrors and angry, crowd-pleasing outbursts, is a core issue of personal honesty and integrity. And on that score, as it relates to the seeking of the position of highest public trust in the land, Newt, and Calista, together should be weighed in the balance and found sorely wanting.

Tom DeLay, a top deputy to Gingrich during the Republican revolution of the mid-1990s said the following in a radio interview with KTRH, DeLay said: “He’s not really a conservative. I mean, he’ll tell you what you want to hear. He has an uncanny ability, sort of like Clinton, to feel your pain and know his audience and speak to his audience and fire them up. But when he was speaker, he was erratic, undisciplined.”

Double speak of the Republicans... Inaccurate=LIE, not meant to be "factual= LIE.... Anything that comes out of a Republican's mouth=LIE.

It's become preposterous that Politicians think they can lie and lie and lie and get away with it when actual EVIDENCE and PROOF exists to contradict them! The real problem is that Republican voters for the most part, don't actually believe in the truth or facts.. they think that uninformed personal opinion is the new fact and truth....

Newt made an error in his comments??? I am in shock!!! I am dismay!!!

Please note the sarcasm dripping off my comments! He lies and is never sorry for it. He has all of those nice christian people fooled that he has repented his sins but hasn't. He is one of those "good" Christian's that think they can continue to lie and cheat and do evil as long as they say sorry when they are done. Being truly repentant doesn't work that way...it's I'm sorry and I'll never do it again...and actually meaning it. That is so not Newt.

The best indicator of future behavior is past behavior, and we see it in Newt every day!

Gingrich knew what he was saying during the debate was a lie. He said it because the GOP hates the media, so it would garner maximum appeal. His retraction means absolutely nothing - the "GOP base" will remember this as a time when the media lied, even though that is not what happened - exactly as Gingrich intended.

Carl Rove would be so proud of Gingrich's ability to twist lies and truth and make the public remember what you want them to.

The fact that this liar was buddies with Tom Delay, says it all. Gingrich resigned in shame, with ethics violations all around him. He says that the $300,000 wasn't a "fine" but was repayment for the investigation. Well, if I hadn't done anything wrong, I certainly wouldn't pay someone $300,000...We know this guy enough now, to know he would fight to the political death, if someone accuses him of something he didn't do...so why did he pay the "fine" and then resign? Becasue he has no ethics and the rest of the Congress knew this...even his own party. He led an impeachment of Clinton, while cheating and doing the exact same thing...then he said it was because Clinton lied not because he cheated in the White House...now this liar wants to be President? Come on GOP, you can certainly do better than this ethically depraved liar.

This is just more of Newt's warped view of his importance. What he did though is last long enough on the lie to get through the SC primary. There his lie managed to hold the line with the people stuck in the 1950's who don't want women/minorities to have a say in anything. Offering your 2 daughters as "proof" doesn't work either especially when they are part of your campaign.

This is just another example that Newt will say whatever he wants to get what he wants. He has on regard for truth, morality or personal values yet points the finger at what he claims are their failings. He needs to look in the mirror and point at himself when he wants to tell lies because clearly he believes his own lies.

BTW- to me being repentant of a wrong and saying you have sought and received redemption from your mistake means that you confess and dont do it again. Covering it up only means you are unrepentant and have not come to grips with what you have done. How great would it be if he had said, "I made some serious mistakes with my former wife and hurt her. I have paid for those mistakes and have sought forgiveness from her and my maker" Who could throw stones at that. INstead he has magnified his infidelity and perversion by revealing that he's also a liar who lied to everyone on national TV. Newt, your worth more than that. Winning south carolina and losing everything else isnt worth it. Cmon admit your mistakes, get your life in order, and move on.

How the heck would your daughters know the truth about this??? Do you really think that we believe that you talk to every personal friend you have about the status of your marriage in that way? Is that party conversation at your house?...."hey, Newt, did your wife agree to your request for an open marriage? pass the corn chips please."

Come on. The only person that really knows the truth about what went down is him and his ex-wife. And he has already been proven to be a liar and a man lacking ethics. Go away, Newt. Please. Just go away.

Gingrich recently admitted (with a sly grin) that he does not speak French. That might be true, but he does have a French name, LeRoy, or Le Roi in French, the King in English. Perhaps that explains the size of the ego and arrogance of this man, who thinks he is divinely mandated to rule over us peasants, and that therefore the normal rules of civilized behavior do not apply to him.

Admits error? How about reporting the headline correctly CNN and saying "Gingrich has yet to admit lie." which is what everyone knows it was...the answer was simply a way of temporarily jamming the gears of the negative publicity machine until he could say a week later (when it is all blown over) he didn't have anyone to corroborate.

Gingrich characterized ABC's defense as 'just plain baloney'. Newt, every other word out of your mouth is not only baloney, but baloney left in the hot sun for several hours. Just take a look at Politifact... Newt shows up with "Pants on fire" with regularity.

i'm sorry but as a conservative woman, i'm outraged that CNN doesn't have this article as a headline article. it's a BIG DEAL that newt lied about his ex-wife's account. he mad a big deal denying it at the debate, and cnn should make it widely known that all that smoke was a lie. and yet, it's in small type on the side of the page. where is the outrage? and to think that my conservative friends in south carolina voted for him to win. they don't know the truth, and putting this headline on the side is a miscarriage of justice for the american readers. how you treat your wife matters to republicans. how you handle difficult situations matters, not your tax return. if you treat your wife like dirt, then nothing else you say is worth listening to. if you agree, befriend the conservative "no newt gingrich" page on the website. it's the only conservative focussed page on facebook that has no picture on it (because i'm not graphic-design-gifted). but i can't sit by and watch newt win another republican primary.

Because most people know he has, time and again.

The fact that this guy is even a contender for GOP candidate just proves 3 things:

    1) He has a big ego.

I heard a comment today, about one candidate aiming at hispanics because as he said, They tend to vote democrat. Wel Mr. Candidate Sir, Todays hispanic voters, are very intelligent and not all hispanics are democrats.. Years ago they use to brainwash people of very low or none education and they fell for it, today they study the candidates platform, listen to them and make every effort to learn about the candidate, last election spoke for itself and voters are wiser. they will not make the same mistake. Needless to say that they are still trying to win people over with their theories of what they are going to do, but one must remember that there is a: House of representatives, a Senate and a Congress and all theories must pass thru these house for vote. Yes the President thas veto powers and sometimes usess his own power to overide the three branches but it always doesn't go well with voters, as it shows that he has no support.

Newt can claim the left wing media is out to get him, but I have no doubt they want him to get the nomination. They gave him South Carolina by asking the open marriage question at the debate and made him look like such a victim. These are media experts who know and are trained on how to influence people through media. They played their game very well and no one is calling them on it. They know Newt can't beat Obama and they want him nominated to insure 4 more years of what we got now.

Since there won’t be any ground rules for the audience to follow, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this timely admission is just a calculated effort by Gingrich and his campaign staff to bait the moderator to broach the subject again so this calculating, petulant old emperor-in-waiting can once again perform for his base of intellectually impaired knuckle-draggers. Nothing gets them going more than an overgrown adolescent raging against the liberal “elites”, the “elite” media and the “elite” establishment Republicans that are all “out to get him”. And isn’t it interesting that a person, who believes he’s intellectually superior to the rest of us, has a $500,000 line of credit at Tiffany’s, and has millions of dollars in the bank -– is always so ‘liberal’ about throwing around the word “elite”? By definition, Gingrich is full-fledged card carrying member of the “elite” class. I wish somebody would have the courage to throw this back in face the next time he starts ranting.

Folks this is the M.O. of a narcissist. The rules DO NOT apply to them. Lies roll off their tongue, and if they say the sky is green, no matter what you say they will stick to the lie...and in some cases make their prey (his 3 wives, interns, supporters, anyone who shows any weakness they will prey on in order to get narcissistic supply) believe they are crazy for KNOWING the sky is blue. He is incapable of telling the truth. I wish reporters would do some reading on narcissistic personality disorder and learn how to go back at him. His behavior is such classic NPD behavior and is completely predictable. It is fascinating to watch this if you know anything about this disorder....you can totally predict his behavior...what is incredibly scary is that people who are unaware get sucked into the idea that he is the victim in all of this.

No more pork in Washington under my administration.
No bill will be passed without me having gone over it line item by line item.
My administration will get our fiscal house in order.
I never spent significant time with the likes of Bill Ayers.
I really never truly listened in the 20 years I sat in church listening to America's biggest racist pastor.
My wife earned every dollar of the 316,000 she earned from her job at the county.
I absolutely did not know the home we were buying from our campaign fund raiser was priced a half a million dollars under market and if I did, the "gift" would in no way have ever bought any type of influence in my administration.

The only real choice is Ron Paul.

Mr. Gingrich simply has superior improvisation skill. He takes his subject matter from the attacks against him and spins it into a false positive. His greatest allies are ignorance and apathy. He sees Floridians in the same light as voters of South Carolina and that's someone he can use and then discard.

Newt lied, but let's see how many of Obama's promises that he made in his stump/state of the union speech Tuesday become reality (he's told half-truths and lies in the past). Let's see if his die-hard supporters call him a liar and phony once these promises fade away - odds are you won't? He'll turn the blame on a do-nothing congress of Republicans (mind you, nothing was done before the Republicans took control of the House, anyways). You think he cares about you, seriously? He'll say anything to win, and he knows what blue-collars and liberals want to hear. As soon as that speech ends he goes home and laughs with mobama. He's just as big a charlatan as Newt - he would have kept going for hours about what he "promises" to do if the networks didn't put a time cap on the SOTU.

During the debate, he didn't hesitate to say that his friends knew that what Marianne was alleging was a lie.

First mistake: How could his 'friends' have known the contents of a private phone conversation? If indeed his 'friends' knew that he was in the midst of a 6 year long affair with Callista before this phone conversation took place, why didn't any of them say something to Marianne?

Now, a week and a half later, Newt says he has to talk to his campaign manager 'who has been briefing him' on this subject. Turns out the campaign manager says there was no offer to ABC news of character witnesses for poor Newtie. See the problem? First he lies, then he says he has to consult with his manager, then the manager ends up being the one somehow in the wrong. Either Newt didn't discuss the 'character witness' subject with his manager before the debate, or he just makes things up on the fly, figuring a week later if the subject is pursued, nowhere near the amount of people will see the correction.

Sorry Mr. Lizard, we're on to you and the people following your campaign are salivating at every bit of red meat you throw their way in the way of lies.

Gingrich is the ultimate example of: The end justifies the means. He thinks he deserves to be president, so he will lie if hat is waht it takes to get the nomination He wants a new wife, so he will cheat. It is all about Newt. I guarantee he does not care a thing about the country.

Gingrich already got out what he wanted to, the GOP minions have already ate and digested it and no retraction will make any difference to them. They believe what they want to. Gingrich is a disgusting liar nothing will ever change that.

This guy and Romney are the best the GOP can do to try to beat President Obama? They should forfeit now before they embarrass themselves further.

    Tax Loop hole.

The employee Social Security rate for yr. 2010 was 4.2% with a limit of $106,800 or maximum payment limit of $4,485. With this payment limit, if employed, Newt Gingrich with income of $3.1M, he would have paid a tax rate of 0.14% and Mitt Romney with income of $21.6M he would have paid a tax rate of 0.02%. With the current legislation in Congress, would the candidates support removing the limits on the Social Security taxes?
Please keep in mind the Social Security fund has been added to the general fund.

Newt is a disgrace to conservatives. Conservative are for family values, honesty, and fiscal responsibility. Newt has none of those. It is people like this slime ball that give conservatives a bad name. What's really frightening is that there are people who would actually vote for Newt. If he becomes the Republican Party's presidential candidate, look for four more years of Obama. Most Americans, including the more centrist conservatives, will not vote for him. At one time I thought I would vote for anyone, as long as it wasn't Obama. If Newt is the man, I will not vote. Obama is a problem, but at least is predictable and has a grip on reality. I wouldn't vote for him, mind you, but I wouldn't vote for Newt, either.

Newt will lie and twist the truth on any occasion. I am old enough to remember the mean and fearful tone of his leadership in the House with Tom "The Hammer" DeLay as his Majority Whip and how he went after Clinton to provide a smoke screen for his nefarious plans for a Contract ON America.

The crux of the matter WAS- that Gingrich and daughters stated that Newt couldn't have had divorce papers served on his wife in her hospital bed BECAUSE his wife was the one that initiated the divorce. FALSE Newt and daughters FIBED. CNN investigators went to Carroll Co., GA. and, at first, the documents were missing. BUT the former Court Clerk had hidden them for fear of theft BUT revealed the location. Who filed for the divorce- the Grinch had. And listed in the documents was a plea by his wife being against the divorce in the first place. SO Newt, and daughter is caught in yet another lie. This was just three weeks ago when Newt is suppose to be such a repentant soul.

The guy is the King of "Pious Baloney". He is a serial liar, who lies with a straight face all the time. And I think he is running out of food stamps. John king was so weak to let him get away with it; which is why as a journalist you should always research your topic thoroughly before you open your mouth.

Shouldn't be the first question but Newt should be asked about this. Maybe ask the audience to hold remarks then ask 'New' Gingrich to clarify his' inaccuracies'. I think it should be framed in a question about how can voters believe in the integrety of each candidate after it has been found the candidate said something untrue.

Hey Johnny P. – just for fun I checked out the Fox News website to see how they were handling this story since I thought you might like to also comment there. I failed to find anything about Mr. Gringrich and his escapade with Mr. King so I can see why you had to comment here. As I said, I may have missed it on Fox since Fox News is not my main source of news. However, it was kind of interesting how you rationaliized Mr. Gringrich's "error".

Let's get this straight–Newt's no bigger a liar than any of a hundred Democrats, including our current President. Further–the only source for his "asked for an open marriage" is from a woman who married him on his way up and then divorced him on his way down. Good God–I can only imagine the excuse-making and feigning of ignorance had Newt been a powerful Democrat. Please people–at least be consistent. It's embarrassing to see so much rank hypocrisy.

When are GOP candidates going to learn not to fabricate and make up things and expect it to fly? Unlike with liberals, he doesn't have a teflon coating. Well, maybe he is a liberal. Who knows with him? LOL Anyhow, he can't afford to put false statements out there. I imagine it's possible he thought his staff dealt with it, but it's still incumbent upon him to know what is going on in his campaign and with any allegations out there. He won't gain any ground with telling untruths. And his righteous indignation with John King won't be seen as so righteous given this new development - and perhaps not as stable as people originally thought.
