Santorum trashes Gingrich moon colony

Tallahassee, Florida (CNN) – A day after Newt Gingrich vowed to build a base on the moon by the end of his second term in office, Rick Santorum suggested that such a promise was merely pandering to Florida voters.

"The idea that anybody's going out and talking about brand new, very expensive schemes to spend more money at a time when we do not have our fiscal house in order in my opinion is playing crass politics and not being realistic with the people of this country as to the nature and gravity of the problem," Santorum said Thursday.

Speaking before 150 students at Florida State University, Santorum said that it was time that politicians were honest about the fact that the debt crisis is simply too big to consider such grand proposals.

"The idea at this point that we're going to create any new expansive plan to create a new mission and fund that mission in any way that could lead to a deployment or development of that mission, I just think is similar to what Speaker Gingrich said the other night when he said he was going to create a new Social Security plan," Santorum said, referencing a heated back-and-forth between him and Gingrich over the speaker's plan for providing a private Social Security option.

He warned the crowd that until the current debt crisis is solved, people shouldn't expect to see many "new, innovative and big ideas," instead they should begin to think about how to "keep things alive" with less money.

If Newt wants to go to them moon, let him. Just make sure we don't leave a return vessel.

Dude, the last flights of the Shuttle program were scheduled shortly after the missions resumed following the Columbia disaster. The flights are scheduled years in advance. There had been a next generation orbiter in development for over a decade. Research and development slowed to crawl during the Bush years so he could fund his war on a terrorified nation. If you believe that Obama killed the outdated Shuttle program, then you are terribly misinformed.

Santorum is not on the ballot in Virginia, Illinois, and Washington DC and does not qualify for all of the delegates in Tennessee and Ohio. Gingrich is not on the ballot in Virginia and Missouri and does not qualify for all of the delegates in Tennessee. Neither has the ground game or resources to compete in the upcoming caucus states either. One estimate (though it may be a little biased and slightly high) has them missing out on over 500 possible delegates. Even if it is half that, it is a big handicap with only 2286 delegates available. There are only two candidates that are eligible to get every available delegate, and only two candidates with organized national campaigns and the resources to make it to the national convention. It's time to be realistic and get behind a candidate that actually has the ability to get the nomination. Gingrich and Santorum are running for cabinet positions, book sales, and speaking fees right now.

Republicans should have stopped Bush from starting two wars and racking up the credit cards and maybe there would be some funding available for space. Republicans want to spend money on other countries and outer space but dont dare help out the middle class here on earth

I'm pretty sure that the space coast residents knew Mr. Gingrich was yanking their chain. They felt the same sensation from DUHbya.
