Palin decries GOP 'cannibalism,' defends Gingrich

(CNN) – She may not be publicly endorsing a candidate for president, but Sarah Palin clearly has a favorite in the ongoing campaign feud between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.

In a post on her Facebook page Friday, the former Alaska governor praised Gingrich's Ronald Reagan connections, while questioning Romney's conservative credentials. Ultimately, Palin said the GOP establishment backing Romney were "cannibals" for attempting to discredit Gingrich.

"I am in favor of contested primaries and healthy, pointed debate," Palin wrote. "They help focus candidates and the electorate. I have fought in tough and heated contested primaries myself. But what we have seen in Florida this week is beyond the pale."

Palin, whose husband Todd endorsed Gingrich earlier this month, said tactics used against the former House speaker were reminiscent of attacks against her during her vice presidential bid in 2008.

"The difference in 2008 was that I was largely unknown to the American public, so they had no way of differentiating between the lies and the truth," Palin said. "All of it came at them at once as 'facts' about me. But Newt Gingrich is known to us – both the good and the bad."

Gingrich's relationship with Nancy Reagan, along with an endorsement from Reagan's son Michael, should speak to the former speaker's record as a conservative, Palin argued.

"There are no two greater keepers of the Reagan legacy than Nancy and Michael Reagan," Palin wrote. "What we saw with this ridiculous opposition dump on Newt was nothing short of Stalin-esque re-writing of history."

Borrowing one of Gingrich's favorite campaign lines, Palin said the mainstream pillorying of Gingrich was "Alinsky tactics at their worst," referencing the radical community organizer Saul Alinsky, who Gingrich namedrops frequently on the stump

Palin boiled down the race to a tug-of-war between mainstream Republicans backing Romney, and grassroots activists unwilling to fall in line behind the establishment pick.

"I respect Governor Romney and his success," Palin wrote. "But there are serious concerns about his record and whether as a politician he consistently applied conservative principles and how this impacts the agenda moving forward. The questions need answers now. That is why this primary should not be rushed to an end. We need to vet this."

Palin ended months of speculation in October when she announced she wasn't seeking the GOP presidential nomination. Political observers have been looking for an endorsement from the former governor ever since, but have thus far been left hanging.

Bet she'd eat Newt's wienie. Then Ricky Boy can say it's irrelevent to the Election. Why does the media waste our time with this never-was, has-been?

Let me see if I can get this right. Sarah served two years (not two terms) as Governor of Alaska, then was nominated as VP running mate for John McCain. She didn't run in any primaries. Then when she lost her VP bid she resigned as governor so she could hide from the press and write a book. Then she got a job at FOX News, which has hired more losers than Texas Prison system has convicts. Now the TeaBaggers hang on her every word and recommendations. She, without saying so, endorses Gingrich. Then you get someone like Rick Dove commenting "how smart she is". Let me ask this question: Is the Republicanj party that BAD OFF they have loser giving advice? Geeze pretty pathetic if you as me.

Sarah Palin should organize a conservative electoral boycott of the GOP if Mitt Romney lies his way to the nomination. Romney has a long history of badmouthing conservatives and voting against them. In 1994 while he was running for the U.S. Senate, Romney made snide remarks about conservatives in Washington, D.C., and especially about then conservative icon U.S. Sen. Jesse Helms of North Carolina. Romney also admitted voting for Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale and against Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. Now he has hired notoriously anticonservative Republican campaign professionals like his spokeswoman Andrea Saul, who all worked for the disgraced anticonservative former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, who like Romney is a political soulmate of Barack Obama. RINOs like Romney think that they can take conservatives for granted and even abuse them verbally because they have no where else to go. They are so mistaken. Not only will conservatives not donate money to the RNC, NRSC and NRCC and volunteer their time for establishment Republicans, they also won't vote for Romney or the RINO's in November. Conservatives know that if not in 2012 then for sure in 2016 one of them will become president and they are not going to let Phony Romney or the RINOs steal the election.

This is good. A Sarah Palin endorsement is a kiss of death everytime. Thank you Sarah! Gingrich is a self serving manipulator who believes his own lies. He's a dangerous, dangerous man.

Wow !! This is coming from a "Quitter" because she knew she could make millions from doing books and speeches !! Rather than finishing her term as Governor. It's a good thing she doesn't work for me, She wouldn't last a week. And I've been in business for the last 7 years. No wonder the republicans are self destructing ! It's unfathomable to hear what they are actually saying about each other, especially for a Job that pays 400K a yr. But I guess it's all the perks that come w/ it.

I am convinced the GOP is purposely trying to lose the election for POTUS – the clown show to date supports that. Perhaps they are focused on retaining Congressional seats. It may be the GOP is afraid to take on the mess President Obama inherited. BTW – who cares what Palin foams from her mouth – and Todd is a bigger joke.

What papers has she read Rick. And she must have a speech writer now, because her vocabulary did not know the word cannabalism last year. McCain will be forever known as the person who made this fruitcake rich.

Newt is a self-confessed windbag, a serial adulterer, and the man who created the hyperpartisanship of the 1990s, which is the direct precursor to the dysfunctional Washington and Congress we know today. And, now, Sarah talks about him as a wonderful man and candidate. I don't think so. If he has sought redemption for his past sins, let him do so from those he hurt - both of his previous wives. That's where forgiveness comes from, not from his own imaagination.

This is bigger than the GOP candidates. Once again, this is all about Palin.

It will be Romney..and when it is, the GOP will officially rebuke their 'christianity'...it's a religous things folks, if you believe or not. Republicans have done the opposite of what the Bible teaches about living wages, treatment of the poor, lending, love of wealth. Republican leadership did an exceptional job of pointing Obama out as the Antichrist..but it never materialized did it..ever wonder why? The Bible talks about them being misled, and it's all about to come to fruition. The Bible referred to the beast as multiheaded, the true Antichrist will be an empty mouthpiece that represents the true evil.
