Herman Cain endorses Gingrich

politicalmugshot

(CNN) - Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain endorsed Newt Gingrich Saturday at an event in West Palm Beach, Florida.

"I hereby officially and enthusiastically endorse Newt Gingrich for president of the United States," Cain said during a meeting of the Palm Beach County Republican Party.

Follow the Ticker on Twitter: @PoliticalTicker

Cain cited the former House speaker's "bold ideas" as the basis for his choice, saying Gingrich wasn't afraid to propose big ideas that would benefit the nation, even if they invited the ridicule of his rivals.

"There are many reasons, but one of the biggest reasons is that I know that Speaker Gingrich is a patriot," Cain said. "Speaker Gingrich is not afraid of bold ideas and I also know that Speaker Gingrich is running for president and going through this sausage grinder. I know what this sausage grinder is all about. I know that he is going through this sausage grinder because he cares about the future of the United States of America."

Appearing on CNN "Newsroom" after making his endorsement, Cain said Gingrich's platforms closely matched his own, including the 9-9-9 tax plan.

"When you find a candidate that basically is running still on the ideas and the ideologies that I was running on, along with him embracing 9-9-9, then it was a no-brainer and I thought that the timing was right," Cain said.

Gingrich said at the West Palm Beach event Saturday Cain's 9-9-9 plan would become part of the national conversation, but the candidate has not offically adopted the tax proposal as part of his platform.

While Cain enjoyed a spike in polls last fall, the impact of his endorsement is unclear. When he dropped out of the race in December, polls showed him toward the back of the pack of candidates. Asked on CNN Saturday how his endorsement would effect the race, Cain said he was more focused on guiding his remaining supporters.

"I don't care about where he stands in the polls," Cain said of Gingrich. "And whether my endorsement helps him or not, that's not the point. It's to let my supporters know that he is the closest to what I represented when I was still a candidate."

In a statement, Gingrich applauded Cain as a fellow "big ideas" candidate,

“America’s challenges are too great for mere tinkering around the edges," Gingrich said. "Just like Herman, who ran his campaign based on big ideas, I am running on bold solutions that will boost job creation, cut bureaucratic red tape, and fundamentally transform Washington."

Cain also accepted Gingrich's invitation to co-chair the former speaker's Tax Reform and Economic Growth Advisory Council, according to the release.

Cain ended his bid for the 2012 GOP nomination in early December after battling allegations of past sexual harassment. Cain attracted attention and followers for aggressively promoting his "9-9-9" tax plan, as well as for his charismatic personality and appeal among tea party activists.

Gingrich also received the backing of former presidential candidate Rick Perry after the Texas governor dropped out of the race ahead of the South Carolina primary earlier this month.

Who cares? GOPers are all just worried about how to line their own pockets. And the Dems are all worried about how to take money from the rich and line the pockets of the middle class so they will keep voting for them. We need politicians that will look at what is in the best interest of the country. Not what is in their own best interest.

Very sad to see this. I volunteered for Mr. Cain's campaign in SC because I truly believed he was a different kind of candidate and a man of honor. I must now seriously question that. Friends or not friends, the responsible thing for Mr. Cain to do would have believed in what he has said and stayed out of the primary fight. Let We The People select the nominee through the process as designed. Mr. Cain lost a part of my respect with this move tonight.

I think voters should wonder about this support. One man who at the very LEAST acted WAY inappropriately while away from his wife on more than one occasion backing a two time cheater.... Hmm, I think conservatives would be wise to stay away from BOTH of these men. Gingrich not part of the establishment??? A 40 year politician not part of the establishment? Ron Paul is WAY less a part of the establishment than Newt Gingrich and he's been in politics just about as long – but at least he went back to practicing medicine in between. Sarah Palin is talking out of both sides of her mouth by supporting these men – espousing family values on one side while cheating on their wives on the other? Sarah needs to go back to social conservatism school.

Amazing!

Only Herman Cain would be stupid enough to use the term sausage grinder when referring to the process that he and Newt "endured" while running for President. Ginger White told everyone about Hermie's sausage and it was Newt's sausage that got him into trouble while married to his previous wife. Its time to bring Trump back with his three wives to get the clown car rolling again for the Republicans.

Wake up America, if Romney is selected and elected, it will be a return to the status quo and the same policies that lost them the election in 2008. Romney was, and is a weasel.

Cain is correct, Gingrich is the most intelligent of all the candidates and the sitting president (you know the hope and change guy...). GIngrich has both the vision and the knowledge of politics and history to set the country on a great path.

We don't need the same old washington employee's rubbing elbows with each other, we need someone who understands business and creating, not more of the same GOP steamroller insiders. Give Mitt a chance to give us back the America we remember and love and will fight for. We fight all over the planet pushing our values, lets get the fight back here and be the greatest country in the world again.

This doesn't surprise me at all!! A possible adulterer endorsing a twice admitted adulterer for President of the United States. What is this country coming to? As I have said before: Do we as a nation wish to have a twice admitted adulterer and his (mistress) wife as role models for our kids if Newt is elected to the White House? I think not!

Ya, Cain & Gingrich are like minded all right. A serial womanizer backing a serial adulterer. That is the best the Christian right can come out with. Why on earth the GOP can side step good men like Santorum and Romney for a womanizer and now a serial adulterer and still call themselves a party standing for moral and family values? Conservative evangelicals are hypocrites to come out & claim they stand for family values. What sort of example or role model they try to put into the White House for their children if Gingrich is their nominee?

These attacks on Newt are not coming from just the "establishment Republicans" as Sarah keeps suggesting. They are coming from the voters who are concerned about the direction our country is heading. For the good of the party many republicans kept their mouths shut about Newt's flaws. After seeing the true Newt in action many of them have decided speak out. Now a lot of republicans have started to put their country first and have shifted their support to a candidate that has the qualites we need to lead our country out of the mess we are in. "Great leadership is a product of great character. This is why character matters."

Now, isn't that special? The Herminator wants to expand his little black book and figures that Newt's campaign staff–that sounds wrong–is primed for tapping. If Newt can score two wives from there, then Cain thinks the possibilites are endless. The buddy weekends and cruising these two could have as president and vice-president. And, Cain could add new meaning to the "vice" part. Screw the state dinners and bring on the toga parties. Just think of the road trips these two could stage.

These are two of the most chauvinistic, woman-hating, misanthropic miscreants to ever grace the political scene. They probably have a bet as to which one hits Palin and Marcus Bachmann first.

Just because you know 'business', doesn't mean you can govern. We need someone in office that knows how to deal with leaders of other countries and not just 'fire them'!
I also think it is dangerous to get a businessman to lead our country, because government is our only defense AGAINST the excesses of business. It is like hiring Hitler to command our army in WWII.

For conservatives, it is time to admit defeat. According to the Miami Herald poll, Romney has 42% support, Gingrich has 31%, Santorum has 14%, and Paul has 6%. Without including Paul's supporters, there are enough conservatives to stop Romney (31+14=45), but not when they are split between Gingrich and Santorum. Oh well, for whatever it is worth, Obama leads Romney by 4 points in the Rasmussen poll.

The only one who can save Gingrich is Obama. Come on, Obama, endorse Gingrich. You probably don't want to run against Romney, because he has exactly the same health care plan as you, and it will confuse the heck out of the voters as Romney attacks the Obama plan that is a national version of Romney's Massachusetts plan. The Heritage Foundation developed the idea of the individual mandate in the early 1990s as the Republican alternative to the employer mandate in Hillary's plan. That is why Romney and Gingrich were longtime supporters of the individual mandate. It was a Republican idea. Alas, Obama adopted the idea in his health care plan. Now Republicans call the idea socialism. Voters will be confused as Romney attacks socialism at the national level but endorses socialism at the state level. When voters are confused, anything can happen.

I was a previous supporter of Mr. Cain and signed his original website as a supporter before he dropped out of the race, always assuming my email address would remain private to him. I am now a supporter of Mitt Romney and do volunteer work for him. Last week emails began coming to my account from Mr. Gingrich. I was astonished at this since I had never even visited his website nor volunteered my support to him. I did some checking and found out Mr. Cain has either sold of given my private email to Mr. Gingrich's campaign. I feel this is an invasion of my privacy as I had trusted my personal information with him and he has shared it without my permission.
Sadly, My trust in Mr. Cain's practices are shameful and I have lost all my respect for him.

And a final note. The economic turmoil is unavoidable no matter who will make it as POTUS. Choose who you feel is right for you and realize that we are screwed no matter what. Screwed being the same as fooling around but without dinner. Empty tummy but fully satisfied, (or sore) in bed.

As a black man, Cain's endorsement of Gingrich will be the kiss of death for Newt in southern primaries.

Cain kept his mouth shut until the most racist state (S. Carolina) held it's primary, else Romney would've won in SC.

Herman endorsing Newt isn't a surprise. They both like affairs, they both lie their back sides off, and neither one has an ethical bone in his body. it's like Ghadaffi endorsing Hussein for best dictator in the world. You can't fault these guys for their entertainment value though. Let's throw in the Kardashians and the simian kids from Jersey Shore and have a reality show, "Stupid Humans and Their Amazing Egos".

The GOP is purposely trying to lose to The POTUS – they know if they win, they inherit the same mess and within a few months the American people (all sides) would turn on them too. The GOP is more interested in securing Congressional seats in Nov. Just wait and see how that support surfaces.

Well usually birds of a feather stick together. One adulterer endorsing another is par for the course.

Of course, one does have to question how it is that gingRICH was able to stay in the race and Cain was drummed out for like behavior. True, life is not fair.

Making the wealthy pay as much as the rest of everyone in taxes is not "taking money from the rich". smh it amazes me how the only people that are complaining are the ones that don't even belong to the Top 1%. lol. If i were a Fox news anchor or CNN news anchor bringing in six figures a year puts me in the upper middle class realm which means i should not agree with my boss being taxed lower than me because I'm employed with their newscast. Therefore the Top % should not fuss about this and realize without the people who work for them they wouldn't be where they are now financially. Thats not punishment nor class warfare to ask to pay their fair share.

"All Gangrene-Itch needs now is an endorsement from George W. Bush."

Sorry, GWB is totally a Rmoney guy since they're like two peas in a pod. Both are New England elitists and both are spoiled rich kids, riding daddy's coattails and hanging around with the bloodthirsty and corrupt neocons. Rmoney is basically GWB Version 2.0.

Oh Dear!! One Liar endorses another Liar. Cain: claimed he didn't know some of the women he had an affair with only to admit he was wrong. Gingrich: insists, vehemetly that ABC is lying only to admit later he was wrong.

They deserve each other. Once a liar always a liar. Romney is the luckiest man on the GOP ticket.

    @ Lizzie...

I LOVE it how you blind right wingers want to blame the DNC with what happened to Herman Cain when the Democrats would have LOVED for Cain to face Obama in November. The ones who benefited the most from Cain leaving were the Republicans that were still there when he left. Even Cain blamed Rick Perry for it..in fact Cain blamed almost everybody but..........HERMAN CAIN! Accept it Cain is a LOSER and he just endorsed an even bigger one.
