Gingrich: Romney campaign is 'pathetic'

Fort Myers, Florida (CNN) – Newt Gingrich took his latest swing at Republican frontrunner Mitt Romney on Monday, calling his opponent's campaign "pathetic" and grousing loudly about the negative tone of the race.

Campaigning in Fort Myers on the eve of the Florida primary – his fourth stop on a statewide fly-around - Gingrich took the stage in a parking lot at the local airport to address several hundred supporters, many of whom had been waiting in a pleasant breeze for nearly two hours to see the candidate.

Gingrich promptly launched into a diatribe about the "profoundly false" blizzard of ads from the Romney campaign and his allies attacking Gingrich's record in Washington and ties to the troubled mortgage firm Freddie Mac.

He cited a New York Times piece from Sunday examining a Romney campaign meeting on the morning after their drubbing in the South Carolina primary.

In the meeting, Gingrich said, referring the Times piece, Romney and his aides settled on a plan to "destroy" the former House Speaker in Florida.

"And I thought to myself, what a pathetic situation to be running for the President of the United States with nothing positive to say for yourself," Gingrich said.

"And nothing available, a big idea, big vision, a big future, and all you got to do is try to tear your opponent down to where they get smaller than you are. That's the Romney model. Now that's not my model. My model is to talk about big solutions."

Gingrich was introduced at the Fort Myers event by Herman Cain, who endorsed him on Saturday, and Michael Reagan - both of whom defended Gingrich's conservative bona fides.

Cain, though, left the rally before Gingrich spoke in order to make an appearance on Fox News.

Gingrich also revealed in his speech that one of his most famous supporters, Todd Palin, will hit the campaign trail with him soon. The campaign said Palin recorded a last minute get out the vote robocall for Gingrich that will go out in Florida on Tuesday.

I'm sorry, that was supposed to be $1.6 million.

That's still a nice chunck of cash.

Hopefully, they will spend all the money they get from the Koch brothers and nut jobs in all the places they go that need some cash. Otherwise, this is the longest running comedy act I have seen. They are in this for the ego trip – they do not care one bit about public service, it's all about self-service to these clowns.

Wait, Newt just cited the New York Times? Isn't that part of the elite media he's always whining about?

And in a few weeks at the GOP convention, they'll all be praising Mittens...I hope i don't vomit...I also hope Obama re-plays all of the negative ads and rhetoric they have been using against each other this summer. The fact is that none of these lowest common denominators can beat Obama in the Fall. Being independant and hoing the GOP would put up someone I could actually vote for, I am really disappointed. The GOP has a stranglehoild on many states legislatures and these clowns are the only options they could come up with? A couple of car salesmen with no ideas on how to fix anything, only know how to tear down thier opponent?

Ah the pot calling the kettle black routine. WOW. Pathetic says he who wanted an open marriage with his first wife and why would his friends know that not the kind of thing you brag about. He cheated for years on his second wife with his third wife. And of course found guilty of ethic violations and left congress. There were other charges that were dropped after he agreed and paid a $300k fine. Who knows what else he was guilty of as Congress rarely goes after their own for more then 1 violation.

I am not sure why these guys are fighting with eachother so much, none of the GOP Canidates stand a chance of beating President Obama in the General Election, throw in the towel now and use some of that money to help your favorite big corporation. Maybe they will use your money to create jobs....LOL.

Politics in America, GOP or not, is better without the political gamesmanship of Newt Gingrich.

The GOP has put itself in a very interesting situation...They have a candidate (Newt) who says all the right things and mostly paralells the tea Bagger mantra. If they had any convictions to thier own ideals, Newt would be the nominee, but they also know that Newt is unelectable in any general election becaue Newt is a philandering, immoral poitical hack who will say anything to get elected. So they will put Mittens up against Obama in the Fall. The problem is why should we vote for someone who a second choice for thier own party, knowing that the only reason is that his primary opponents were simply unelectable? I think most informed open minded Americans will see through this and Obama will win in a landslide.

"I am a Demcratic leaning Independent and if Romney wins the nomination, I would seriously consider voting for him."

Anyone who thinks Rmoney is a moderate is delusional. He has no loyalty to anything but money and the predatory elites who worship money. There is no such thing as "greedy moderation."

"He calls Mitt a liar but fails to tell us what the lies really are."

Don't be ridiculous. Newt has been pretty accurate with his criticism of Rmoney's vulture capitalism with Bain. If anything, Newt didn't go far enough in pointing out that Rmney is a pretty little corporate welfare queen who thought nothing of dumping pension obligations onto the US taxpayer.

Bird Man, I thought the same thing...typical GOP whining about the Liberal Press on one hand, but using it against thier opponenet at every opportunity...my mom used to call that being a hypocrite. Both of my parents were conservatives and are now turning over in thier graves. My mom called Newt a crook 20 something years ago...never thought we'd hear from him again (as a politician, that is), only every few years making book selling tours. Why do we let a forgiener own a TV network in this country? There are laws against it. FOX and FOX News is owned by an Austrailian...Rupert Murdoch makes US policy and is a forgiener. His companies also break the laws of many countries by spying and spewng falsehoods for political gain (always to the benefit of the 1%).

Is there no end to this man's egotism?? Hey Newt...people are SICK of your "grandiose" ideas, none of which would fly in this economy. We've been hearing about them for years, and they are as asinine now as they were then, even moreso now. We want to go back to WORK. We want health care we can AFFORD. We want our elderly parents to be assured of their MEDICARE and SOCIAL SECURITY. We don't need a freaking MOON BASE, unless you want to be launched there yourself...THEN I would give it my wholehearted BLESSING. Take Wifeypoo with you. Make sure you bring her team of hair stylists and makeup artists or she'll pout.

Actually, wouldn't Newt be better off having Todd Palin record a robocall for Romney? Are there really people who find the endorsement of Caribou Barbie's husband relevant???

What's pathetic is the ENTIRE PACK of clowns vying for the Republican nomination...Not a single candidate that might appeal to an independent voter like myself. Newter's the insider who's the outsider, Mittens can't decide what he believes in & stick to it, & Santorum is a running joke.
The only one that seems to be putting any genuinely new ideas forth is Ron Paul, but he's just a wee little bit too whacky to vote for too.

Yeah, his campaign is pathetic. He lost my vote with all his negative campaigning instead of campaigning on the issues. Sorry, Mitt. No vote from this household. It was your to lose and you lost it. If I have to, I will vote for a 3rd party candidate this time. Yes, I will be throwing my vote away, but at least I won't have had to mark an x by either Obama's or Romney's name.

"Both Mitt & Gingrich are horrible people; but Gingrich is a sociopath."

Mittens the Elitist Robot is cruel to animals like his family's dog. That's pretty strong evidence that Mittens is also a socio/psychopath.
