Three questions to Newt Gingrich on primary day

Lakeland, Florida (CNN) - With polls showing Newt Gingrich trailing his arch rival Mitt Romney on primary day in Florida, the former House speaker remains confident he can still win the GOP nomination.

CNN fired off three questions to Gingrich as he was greeting voters outside a campaign office in Lakeland, Florida. He singled out Romney's negative advertising to explain his expected loss in Tuesday's primary.

Colbert super PAC rakes in $1 million

New York (CNNMoney) - Stephen Colbert's super PAC is working with some serious cash.

Americans For A Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow reported Tuesday that it has raised $1,023,121, according to a document filed with the Federal Election Commission.

(CNN) - As Florida Republican operatives look past Tuesday's primary, they are clear about what it will take to carry their state in November - winning swing voters.

While the 2012 GOP presidential race has sometimes seemed like a competition among the Republican White House hopefuls over who can appeal to the party's hard core, the fall campaign will be about winning the middle, according to a CNN survey of 47 Florida GOP insiders - state legislators, political consultants, fundraisers, veterans of previous primary campaigns, tea party advocates and a variety of other party activists.

Obama to raise big bucks on GOP primary night

Washington (CNN) – On the same night the political world closely watches the outcome of Florida’s Republican primary, President Obama is engaging in some below-the-radar fundraising that will likely net his campaign and the Democratic National Committee well over $2 million.

The president has two fundraisers lined up on Tuesday night in the Washington area, one at the St. Regis Hotel and the other at a private residence in the tony Maryland suburb of Chevy Chase, according to a Democratic official.

Perry blew through cash in final months of campaign

(CNN) - Rick Perry, the Texas governor and former presidential candidate, spent almost all of the campaign money his organization raised before dropping out of the race in January.

Perry, who began the fourth quarter with roughly $15 million, spent $14.2 million during the last months of his campaign, according to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission late Monday.

Rubio says Florida winner will clinch nomination

(CNN) - Florida's closely watched junior senator said Tuesday his state's primary election would determine the eventual GOP nominee.

Speaking on CNN's "Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien," Republican Marco Rubio said he wouldn't handicap the race, but could predict the importance of winning the Sunshine State.

Worst place to lose your job: Florida

New York (CNNMoney) – If you lose your job in Florida, chances are you won't find another one any time soon.

The Sunshine State has the highest rate of long-term unemployment in the nation. Some 53% of jobless Floridians were out of work for more than six months in 2011, according to Brookings' Hamilton Project, which crunched Census data.
