How Romney won Florida's Latino vote

Miami (CNN) - As Mitt Romney dominated the Florida Republican primary Tuesday night, he also captured the bulk of the votes from Latinos in the state, with 54% of their ballots. But how did he pull that off?

His victory could be seen as somewhat surprising for a candidate with a tough stance on immigration, who promised that if he were president, he'd veto the Dream Act that would legalize young undocumented adults who came to the United States as children if they attend college, join the armed forces or meet other requirements.

You MSM are so out of touch with us–the Hispanic voters. Most Hispanics are all for immigration reform, after all we DO live and work here too. The only thing we are really against is the racial profiling. Most of the Hispanic voters in America have been in the USA 3 or 4 or more generations. You are so quick to put racist tags on every one that is not a Democrat.

Ralph, you are so right and why people can't see that the largest population of Hispanic population are 3 and 4th born Americans just like all American immigrants. The largest population of illegal immigrants are dead, these are their childrens children.

I've been around many Hispanics and Cubans are NOT like the other groups. Many consider themselves superior to other Hispanics and are not well liked as I have witnessed by quite a lot of my friends and acquaintances. Having said that-this is how he "captured" their votes.

Well, Puerto Ricans are hardworking American citizens who obey the law and don't like being lumped in with those who are here illegally. Cubans are also granted special residency rights and are not here illegally. Romney treated the voters like adults, regardless of their ethnicity. Puerto Ricans are not begging for someone to come here illegally to steal their job. 92% of the Florida hispanics are already US citizens, so the illegal immigration pandering is wasted.

Why did Romney win the Latino vote? It's simple: Latinos are not stupid. They're worried about jobs and the economy just like everyone else.

I wouldn't live in Florida if somebody paid me. I have enough of a hard time trying to figure out whether I'm in mexico, or the u.s. – everytime I go to wal-mart – krogers – or wal-greens – or wherever. Most of the time those people will tell us, ""You Should Learn OUR Language"" I'll bet if I was in porta rico , or mexico – If I said that ""YOU Should Speak My Language"" they would shoot you on the spot, no questions asked. pitiful, those people, pitiful. not to mention Pathetic.

The first order of business should be to drop putting everyone who speaks Spanish in the same bowl. The word Latinos or Hispanics should be banned in its use.
Just like English speaking people, the countries are different, the customs are different and, no, they are not the same and think very differently.
That being said many if my legal friends and some shoo are gird and fourth generations don't always agree on illegals being given a free ride. They are democrats, republikans and independents.

@woman in California. At least most Cubans, even I'd they still hold on to their traditions just like the Irish,Italians I personally know, they have acclimated themselves into the US culture. Back inter 60s most Cubans fleeing the Castro regime were highly educated and upon arriving in the US they might have had tobhold menial jobs to make ends meet bug a lot of professionals went to schools and universities to earn their doctorate degrees and many were ablento continue practicing as doctors, lawyers and professionals. Most of the illegals now hardly have an education so by taking menial jobs they use it to send money back home. Others do want a better education it's much harder to make ends meet nowadays.

Exactly. I think it is presumptuous to expect that the only issues latinos care about are the issues having to do with their being latino. All American communities want to see economic recovery and more jobs. Obama has not delivered. His plan was based on some bad philosophy. His promises have been empty. Latino Americans are as disappointed as the rest of us.

People come to the United States because at one point in time, The United States was a large portion of the people who are "illegally" crossing back to their once country. In particular, it's not a matter of whether "Mexico is that bad they have to risk their lives coming here" its a matter of wherever they are A "Colonizer" race of people or their descendents, their culture has been at risk and their land most likely NOW Classified to a 3rd world country after DE-forestation and devastation countries left stripped naked after all our gold, silver, crops have been SHIPPED to white countries.

When whites came here – we didnt say they were illegal. We didnt rename them, we didnt give them a sur name, we didnt force the hybrid race of this planet to take on none of our customs. What was an "ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION" was whites coming to invade just about every part of this planet on earth than tell the native people they were the illegal. More than half the North was Mexico and belong to the Mexican race of people who then and now have always been HIS PANIC, Whites. Take our children and race them! Illegals are your people from the beginning to now.

Right on Ralph! U said exactly what people don't understand. We hispanics, are for immigration reform. We want to be respected & we're not feeling that from the Republicans. Now, as the election draws closer, they want to get our votes, but that is not an option. I have many, many fam members whom voted Republican all their lives, but now will b voting straight Democratic! Si se puede! Hispanics 4 Obama!

Most latinos nationally will have jobs as No1 an immigration policy as No2, theyn will see healthn care either way as non issue unless they are "legal" in which case Obama care more correctly ACA is better for them. As well as AJA without cutting benefits.
Obama will win the LATINO VOTE OVERLL FEDERALLY.
