Roemer to receive matching funds

(CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Buddy Roemer became the first 2012 contender eligible to receive matching funds from the Federal Election Commission, according to a statement from the FEC Friday.

Eligibility is based on candidates raising $100,000 through collections of $5,000 in 20 different states in amounts no greater than $250 from any individual. Having reached the benchmarks, the Roemer campaign is able to receive $100,000 from the United States Treasury and submit additional contributions for matching funds each month.

Gingrich sharpens attacks against Romney's wealth

Las Vegas, Nevada (CNN) – Newt Gingrich, intensifying his efforts to frame the Republican presidential race as a showdown between his populist insurgency and Mitt Romney's establishment-backed campaign, sharpened his criticisms Friday of Romney's wealth and corporate resume.

Campaigning before about 100 people inside Stoney's Rockin' Country, a half-full honky tonk off Las Vegas Boulevard, Gingrich repeatedly veered into the class warfare rhetoric he often decries on the campaign trail.

The $10 Million Question: Will Gingrich Meet Adelson?

Washington (CNN) - You may be able to call him Newt Gingrich's savior. Many political experts say without his help Gingrich's campaign would not be alive today. Multi-billionaire, Nevada casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and his wife, Miriam, each donated $5 million at different crucial periods last month to the super PAC supporting Gingrich's bid, Winning Our Future.

The contribution by Adelson came at a critical time allowing the super PAC to go on the air with millions of dollars of ads in South Carolina attacking Mitt Romney's record as head of Bain Capital fueling questions about the former Massachusetts governor. Mrs. Adelson's donation gave the super PAC the needed funds to go on the air in Florida with millions of dollars of ads and helping to somewhat dent the huge financial advantage Romney and his allies had in the Sunshine State. Still, Gingrich and his super PAC were outspent by about 5-1 in Florida.

Long-term Romney outreach on display in NV

Sparks, Nevada (CNN) - Two Nevada mayors peeled back the curtain from Mitt Romney's famously organized campaign effort Friday, revealing the GOP candidate has long sought to maintain relationships with local leaders in the fourth voting state.

At a business leaders' round table in Sparks, Nevada, the mayors of Reno and Sparks effusively thanked Romney for personally reaching out to them during local crises.

Santorum makes the case for Missouri

Hannibal, Missouri (CNN) - Rick Santorum spent the day before Nevada's caucuses visiting Mark Twain's home town in Missouri. And he explained his rationale for focusing on the Show Me State whose presidential preference primary on Tuesday carries with it no binding delegates.

"People say the election Tuesday is just a beauty contest, a preference poll, and I say, 'you know what, there are a lot of folks who are looking at these polls across the country and making decisions across the country and deciding who they're going to vote for," Santorum said, arguing that a win on Tuesday could make him more appealing to undecided voters across the country. "This is a critical state. This is a must win state for a Republican if we're going to win the presidency."

Komen Foundation reverses funding decision of Planned Parenthood

(CNN) - Faced with a deluge of opposition that included pressure from lawmakers and internal dissent, one of America's leading breast cancer advocacy groups on Friday reversed itself on a decision that would have cut off funding to some Planned Parenthood projects.

"We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives," the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation said in a statement. "We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities."

Santorum jabs Gingrich moon colony via satellite

Las Vegas (CNN) – Rick Santorum's presidential campaign released a radio ad Friday hitting rival candidate Newt Gingrich's proposal to develop a colony on the moon.
