(CNN) - Tim Pawlenty, former Republican presidential candidate and now Mitt Romney supporter, repeated his criticism of Rick Santorum Tuesday, claiming the former Pennsylvania senator once supported health care mandates.
Santorum, meanwhile, defended the attacks on Monday.
"That's flat out wrong. What they got confused was that I was for a plan that Phil Gramm that said if an employer provided health insurance, that they would have to offer a medical savings account that are now called health savings account program. And they simply got it wrong," Santorum said on CNN's "John King, USA."

Come on Pawlenty – let's be real here. Santorum has to play fair when your candidate doesn't have to? Seriously?
We need campaign reform (both campaigns and the financing thereof). This is getting ridiculous. I've seen it described as a clown act, but those are supposed to be funny, and this no longer is. We've got billionaires buying elections, we're subjected to lying ads by PACs and Super PACs. This is crazy. This is our future at stake here, and we're allowing these guys to make a mockery of the entire process. ENOUGH already!
He said the other day a scathing attack on Gov. Romney on health care, and other news reports showed that, in fact, Rick Santorum supported the government mandate some years ago when he was in Congress
-----------------------------------------------
Then riddle me this Timmy. Why is everyone so adamant about repealing the Affordable Care Act when you all support mandates? Willard doesn't have a leg to stand on because he once said that the country should follow Massachusett's model. How's the saying go: Do as I say, not as I do.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
ELIZABETH WARREN 2012 & BEYOND
Not that it matters, but the only campaign literature my husband has received for today's caucus is from Santorum. I have to laugh at Pawlenty going after little guy Rick for Mittens, though. That, and Mittens trying to hook his car to Catholic causes in his silly attempt of trying to take the Catholic vote away from Rick. Foolish, foolish campaigns run by foolish, foolish men...
Please little Timmy, go away. You are a loser, left the State of Minnesota with the largest deficit in the history of the state,
and was the biggest joke as a governor the State of Minnesota has ever seen.
Yes, play nice kiddies and I promise I will too. HAHA....Lied AGAIN!! Yes, Obama Snake Oil is THE cure for honesty. STEP RIGHT UP! Brng one home for the misses...
"fair" only applies to Santorum and not Mr Flippity-flop right Timmy? Sorry but your boy is looking good for the nomination but in the general election...forget it
Yeah, but. Aren't character, values and morals supposed to be *the* most important qualities in a conservative? If Santorum falls for this blantant sucker punch to defang his campaign, then he deserves to lose.
Play fair? You mean like Romney played fair with Ginrich in Iowa? That kind of fair?
Rudy NYC - Yeah, but. Aren't character, values and morals supposed to be *the* most important qualities in a conservative
==========================================================================================
Obama's Miraculous Snake Oil also cures character, values and morals too! Three swigs and you'll be feelin' like a full blooded Democrat, devoid of any of those horrendous character, values and morals ailments.
STEP RIGHT UP!!! Supplies are running low!!
Non of the GOP candidates are playing fair. However, Santorum showed his true colors to the world when he allowed one of his crazy supporters to say on TV that Obama isn't the really the President, and all sorts of other out of touch with reality stuff. And unlike McCain, he just stood their bobbing his head yes and encouraged the nut jobs on the right to demonize the POTUS. It was disgusting, and shows he wants the White House even if it costs him his soul. He pretends to be saint, until it suits him, then everything is fair in his mind. Flip Flopping on healthcare to just having the good sense to tell his supporters to ratchet down the racism. I really don't know why anyone would support him.
Pawlenty to Santorum.
Please stop bringin' out the dirty truth.
We got an election to win, here. Truth is not so welcome.
Pawlenty perhaps your comments should be directed to Romney who has made personal attacks a national past time.
Romney is the king of personal attacks and using stealth Bomber carpet bombing tactics to destroy his opponents. You should be ashamed of yourself supporting this type of behavior. You are a hypocrite.......t
Of course he supported healthcare reform! All Republicans did until it was proposed by a Democrat! the hypocracy of this years candidates is astonishing. Ron Paul may have crackpot ideas, but at least he's true to them.
Reblogged this on Chris Beverly.
Santorum won't win it will be Romney all the way and also Newt, has a lot of baggage
Pawlenty is right, the writing is already on the wall and Santorum should be looking at possibly a VP spot.
Pawlenty. Wasn't he the governer when that intersate highway bridge collapsed across that small river during rush hour? He had given tax cuts to the wealthy, but cut infrastructure budgets to make up for it.
No one in politics plays fair. Politics and fair play are oxymorons.
"Pawlenty. Wasn't he the governer when that intersate highway bridge collapsed across that small river during rush hour? He had given tax cuts to the wealthy, but cut infrastructure budgets to make up for it."
He was. He also tried blaming the collapse on his Lt. Governor. The bridge had been red tagged prior to the collapse. Pawlenty weaseled himself out of all discussions by stating he hadn't been made aware of how dangerous the situation actually was. He'd cut the funding for necessary bridge maintenance and opted instead to approve only the resurfacing of said bridge - which was in process when it collapsed. This guy was a loser from the get-go.
Cute, Obama's Snake Oil on Sale – Git yur lies and deceit here!!: now please supply us with examples of how Obama has acted as a snake oil salesman, and please tell us how that paragon of virtue, Mitt Romney, who has stood firm on all of his positions, would make things better-oh, that's right, Romney has been on every side of an issue imaginable. How did Jon Huntsman describe him, " a well-oiled weather vane"? Please take your fake Carny-barker act and direct it at T-Paw, who did engage in deceit, lying, and has a definite lack of character: his actually cost lives. How about Newt? Why not Cain, or Bachmann as well? They claimed all we had to do was give the rich more tax cuts, shut up, and everything would be great: what, how can you not believe that statement. A conservative would never lie.
