Obama announces contraception compromise

(CNN) – President Barack Obama announced a compromise Friday in the dispute over whether to require full contraception insurance coverage for female employees at religiously affiliated institutions.Under the plan, religiously affiliated universities and hospitals will not be forced to offer contraception coverage to their employees. Insurers will be required, however, to offer complete coverage free of charge to any women who work at such institutions.

    There is no comprimize. This has proved that the Health care bill provides too much power to an individual bureaucrat within any administration. The whole bill should be scrapped.

    Obama announces contraception compromise! “Always Wrong Obama”; we would do better if Obama and all of his appointees would offer their resignations!

    Compromise is what is done to reach agreement when you govern a large diverse country. Only leaders can do this!! Otherwise you are a dictator!! This comprise allows for personal freedom and religious freedom...only extreme "my way or the highway" people can have a problem with this. Once again Obama has proven to be a wise independent leader worthy of the trust so many Americans bestowed on him three years ago. We now have another decision to make as to our president hopefully our independent minded voters will also be wise...

    And it still will not be enough for Catholic Bishops – you know the very same ones who want government out of their religion but who want their religion in government.

    However, as usual, the President is willing to work and come to a satisfactory conclusion for all involved. Women at these institutions can still get birth control and the institutions do not have to pay for it as part of their benefits package. If insurance covers Viagra, then why not birth control – just saying. I am getting seriously tired of men trying to tell woman what they can and cannot do with their bodies.

    It is my understanding that there have been attempts to hold discussions on this issue since last summer. Some parties have to be forced to the negotiating table.

    Obama is a political genious. Seriously. I believe he always intended to compromise, but purposely floated the more controversial policy just to mess with the Republican primaries/caucuses this past Tuesday. It was pure red meat for Santorum supporters and the extreme religious base in the party - and made Santorum a much bigger headache for Romney. Obama is totally messing with Republicans' heads! Sure, there's a risk for him, but I believe his campaign has done the long-range calculus. Stay tuned for more clever (and effective) campaign moves. Obama/Biden 2012!

    Read the entire article. Insurance companies must cover contraception for all women who desire it. He did not cave. Women all over the US must unite and defeat the GOP. They will take away women's rights if they are elected. You fought for these rights for 50 years, do not let the GOP take these rights away from you.

    Remember the GOP talking point: "Keep government out of our lives". If they are elected they will be all over your rights! Wake up!

    Republicans can even make the word "compromise" seem dirty. What an awful bunch of divisive tyrants they are.

    I'm satisfied with this decision, women who work for religious institutions can now obtain contraceptives and the church can have piece of mind that it doesn't have to pay for them.

    He mandated private companies ( insurance companies ) to provide a product for free to a certain group of individuals. Regardless of how much hate you have for insurance companies, they are private businesses and so mandating that they provide a product for free to a certain group of people is very strange.

    I am no fan of abortion...( I mean can anyone really say honestly that they are?!?!), but I believe it is not the government's place to decide. Still, I would be surprised if Catholics who do not believe in the decision for abortion would be satisfied by Obama's mandate that they therefore get it for free. This just seems like avoiding the question rather than answering it.

    "It'll be devastating with Catholics," he said, arguing that the president has "shown what he really believes."
    ============================================================================
    BINGO!! Obama also LIED to the Catholic church in this whole fiasco. Doesn't the Catholic church understand you don't get in bed with a SNAKE??!!

    The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which brought three lawsuits in federal court against the policy, denounced the White House change Friday as an “accounting gimmick.”
    =========================================================================================
    Yes, but we have all come to know it as Obama's smoke and mirror show where he'll say one thing and do exactly the opposite. The Catholic church has found this out the hard way and is now being forced to compromise its religious teachings.

    President Obama didn't waffle, cave, give in, or whatever else it is you are trying to imply. President Obama tried to do the right thing for women all across America. The hypocritical Catholic Church, and I suspect a great many other hypocritical Christians who utilize the same birth control they are now fighting tooth and nail to keep other women from having access to stopped him. I also suspect that this entire headache isn't going to turn out quite how conservatives were visualizing it would. Stopping equality almost always backfires.

    That's not a compromise. Who do you think is paying for the insurance policy? The religious institution is. Do you not think the insurance will adjust it's premium if it has to provide the services for free? Despite all that, it's not about who's paying for what. It's about who is being forced by the govt to provide any service that goes against the first amendment. This will still be challenged in court and Obama knows it.

    This is a joke and only a naive fool would believe it's any kind compromise. Then again, only a naive fool would still be supporting Obama.

    You need to get a grip on reality! Time to put the kool-aide down...

    But for whatever insane reason he did it, I AM GLAD HE DID. Catholics, and aevery other religious person, has very good reason not to trust ANYTHING he says going forward. And people don't tend to vote for people they don't trust. THANK YOU OBAMA!!!
