(CNN) – Rick Santorum has overtaken Newt Gingrich for the second place spot in a new national poll.
The Gallup daily tracking poll of registered Republicans released Friday showed the former Pennsylvania senator with 22% support, behind Mitt Romney's 34% and ahead of Gingrich's 18% and Ron Paul's 10%. The most recent survey was taken before and after Santorum's trifecta of wins Tuesday.

An earlier survey released two days ago, which was taken entirely before Tuesday's wins, showed Gingrich leading Santorum, 21% to 17% and Paul with 12% support.
Gallup polled 1,000 registered Republicans between February 3 and February 9 with a sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

If this is the best the GOP has, you might as well stay home come the general election! I would have voted for Huntsman and might considered Romney. But THIS and Newt? They make me laugh at the idiocy.
Some polls show Santorum tie with Romney
Santorum will be Romneyboated like Newt and anyone else that may be a threat for the nominatiion.
Obama/Biden 2012
Vote for Mitt Romney Remember Church and States are Sepetate peroid!!
yeah ok. report on this poll. how about the poll from this week that showed Ron Paul in second??
Let's keep all women barefoot and pregnant just like in Sharia law and that's Santorum's belief.
Nominate him...Nominate him...Nominate him...Nominate him...Nominate him...Nominate him...Nominate him...
PLEASE!
Santorum inches up in the polls until he gos and makes a huge mistake and attacks womens effectiveness in the military, then he drops in the polls real fast and never regains his poll numbers. What kind of idiot does not realize you cant win an election without womens votes ? The Republican part is nothing short of a disaster, each and every one of them.
wow! 22 WHOLE PERCENT backing for Santorum!
poor Newt!
Sanatorium means what he says. To bad he is a total nutcase.
As an individual who seeks to unify Church and State, he represents the Unconstitutional Candidate. I wonder what other provisions set forth by the Founding Fathers can be selectively ignored.
@Truth.... Really? Palin? The reason not one single, intelligent woman voted for McCain the last time? Oh! Wait! You must be one of those male people that think women will vote for any other uterus in the race.
