Mitt Romney wins Maine caucuses

Portland, Maine (CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney ended what had been the worst week of his campaign with a quick one-two Saturday - winning the Maine caucuses hours after placing first in a closely watched straw poll of conservative leaders and activists.

In Maine, Romney squeaked out a tight win over Texas Rep. Ron Paul in that state's Republican presidential caucuses, taking 39% of the vote to Paul's 36%. He had gone 0-for-3 in Tuesday's contests in Minnesota, Colorado and Missouri, which all went to former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.

corn belted idiots of Ohio, Iowa, Missouri, etc, elected Santorum does not mean, he gets elected. Because, he is not electable and those corn belted guys are not educated, just farming guys like any third world farmers. I still think Mitt Romney may be front-runner, but will never win to Pres. Obama. Sure, true, true, and true.

ahhhh poor democrats ( liberal elitists ) you were so hoping someone like Santorum or Gingrich could catch the momentum and perhaps the nomination and then you knew for sure you and your liberal President would get re-elected! SORRY FOR YOU because Mitt Romney will be the nominee no matter how much you hate his success in life. You will have to fight hard to retain Obama.

Mitt Romney has the character, love, and judgement that this country needs. He has been married for 42 years and has five sons. He is the one we need to elect. Mitt Romney 2012

How can they call it a win if only 6000 people voted so far?

...what a the Willard Mitt machine will try to spin this as he is back...

    Really...he almost lost to a Libertarian...3 percent

...Conservatives are willy-nilly trying to warm up to a HYPER-RICH once Independent that can not ever win heart and minds, he is like a robotic version of a human being, one trying to say the right things, but never really coming across with sincerity.

Why are the moderators letting all the Mormon hated speech through on here?? It is totally brutal the anti-mormon crap that is spewed out here, especially by those that know so little about Mormonism! Also cant help but note all the former mormons that have clearly been ex-communicated from the Church that are so bitter and cruel. You can try all you want you haters but you just make those that believe in religious freedom even stronger. 🙂

Ron Paul is done. He needed to start winning states, but in the end he lost to Romney.

With 95% of precincts reporting, Romney wins with just under 3,000 votes. That's fewer people than go to a minor league hockey game. Yet this is national breaking news. I think there's a pretty big enthusiasm gap out there for these Republican candidates.

Er, 39 to 36 % is a "win?" Have ALL the votes been counted? The bought and paid for media is marching quite in-step!. I'm embarrassed for you (the press) even if you've lost the means to feel embarrassed for yourselves. Shame!

About 5,000 to 6,000 votes total. Kind of a joke. Winning the straw poll is more to brag about – and that's nothing to brag about!
